    but they ruined there basic instinct to mate for life. so what happens when they are released back into the wild?

    • @sph_dng
      @sph_dng 10 лет назад +1

      I was asking myself the same question. Hopefully nothing happens that could affect their behaviour in the long term. They are doing a great job reducing the wild capturing and trade but still shameful for people keep wanting wild & exotic animals as pets.

    • @aquagrrl
      @aquagrrl 10 лет назад

      Sophie D. They don't actually mate for life. I posted above; but your question about releasing back into the wild is a good one. Specifically they shouldn't be. Captive bred animals generally are maladapted to return to the wild, and is only done with species that are nearly or completely wiped out in the wild, which seahorses are not. Ocean Rider releasing seahorses into the wild is a publicity stunt, and isn't for the benefit of seahorses.

    The problem is that humans should not have them as pets.

    • @TheSoopaSoup
      @TheSoopaSoup 10 лет назад +1

      Why? If the production if them isn't harming them and they live longer, what is the difference from having a seahorse and a gerbil?

    • @PennyLomfalk
      @PennyLomfalk 10 лет назад

      Error405NameNotFound there is no difference but that doesn't mean it is okey. I think None of those animals should be kept as a pet.

      Animals help people as much as people help animals. A seahorse may provide happiness for a human and in turn that human will provide them with a long, safe and happy life. Same with other animals. If an animal is perfectly happy and is well taken care of, what is wrong with them providing happiness for a person by providing them company and the fulfillment one gets from caring for another living thing? In my eyes, there's nothing wrong with that.

    What causes males to be males then?

    • @ANDR0BETA
      @ANDR0BETA 10 лет назад +9

      sperm

    • @patrickroelant5171
      @patrickroelant5171 10 лет назад

      Andrei G. but dont they also have the eggs that causes babys?

    • @redflame300
      @redflame300 10 лет назад

      If the eggs go into a pouch then they technically aren't pregnant, well at least not the same way human females are pregnant.

    • @patrickroelant5171
      @patrickroelant5171 10 лет назад

      redflame300 well they aren't human

    • @redflame300
      @redflame300 10 лет назад

      Patrick Smith i just had to say that because when people think pregnant it includes the "human way" of being pregnant.

    • @SparkleWolf404
      @SparkleWolf404 8 лет назад +1

      Not quite, instead of the male putting the sperm into the egg the female is moving the eggs to the sperm

    • @YouNoob573
      @YouNoob573 8 лет назад

      SparkleWolf404 egs sperm same thing they both combine to make a baby any way :D so i define male or female in whoever caries the baby/babies

      @SparkleWolf404 8 лет назад

      YouNoob573

      Well science defines males by whoever has the sperm

  • @chuckmccarron7310
    @chuckmccarron7310 9 лет назад

    It's a shame, actually. Responsible captive breeding programs wouldn't produce so many animals that they "have to" re-introduce them into the wild in order to "get rid of overflow inventory". Releasing captive bred Seahorses is a bad idea, especially when OR is in Hawaii and their "main" product is native to waters around Florida and the Caribbean. It would be like releasing Tigers (from India) into Brazil's rain forrest.
