Hi Chris, I've just come across your great video. It's good to find someone on RUclips who's bothered to learn how to pronounce the names of the places they're making a video about! I'll try to answer your question about the lack of Trig Points on the Beacons. Basically, there used to be one on top of Pen y Fan but it was removed at some point in time. The Ordinance Survey don't use Trig Points any more as most of their data is gathered by aerial survey now. The trig point on Pen y Fan was placed on top of the bronze age burial cairn at the highest point, were lots of people now queue up to have their photo taken! It could be that it was removed so that the cairn could be excavated and then not replaced as they are not used any more. I know the burial cairn on Corn Du has been excavated in the past.

      Hi there!! 👋🏻
Thank you very much for clicking on my video and for your very kind words. I'm happy to hear that I was saying the names of the places right, or at least close.
Oh really?! Wow thank you so much for that information that I'd very interesting indeed!! I absolutely love learning about different areas and even though I have done that route many, many times over the years I've just never really thought about it and it just trigged when I was up there. Sorry just realised what I did there but I'll leave it in the comment 🙈🤣🤣
Yeah I knew about them not being used anymore but just wondered about why there wasn't one on Pen Y Fan. Now I know! Absolutely brilliant thanks!!
Really appreciate your time taken to watch once again and I wish you a great rest of your weekend 😊

Excellent, I’m 57 over weight and always telling myself I cannot do uphill walks. Well this week I did Pen y fan and not the easy route up.. Your right, we are all capable of more than we think. Compared to your walk mine was not in same class, but to me it was my Everest.

When I was in the TA (many years ago) we were tasked with doing Pen-y-fan three times (ie up, down, up down, up down) in one day. I gave up after doing it twice. That was with a 45lb pack, escape belt, two full water bottles and a rifle (SLR). Lovely part of the world though. That last Trig Point has the SAS badge on it. Some sort of memorial. The SAS train up there a lot.

    • @theheightoflife
      @theheightoflife  3 года назад +1

Hey! Yeah I used to have to do a lot of training in the Brecon Beacons too and Dartmoor. I used to trail run this route when I was training properly too, great little route. Always see a lot of Military there on exercises, I was supposed to actually do the Fan Dance last year with corresponding weight and in the time, was booked in but obviously never happened due to the pandemic. Will get back on the SAS site and try and rebook for next year if they are doing it again.
Yeah that trig had a few plaques with names and memory messages of soldiers that have been in the SAS and sadly passed during service or during exercises in the Brecons I believe.
Thanks for watching and the comment mate 🙏🏼😊👍🏻

Hi Ceri & Kat!! Yeah it is such an awesome route and I have done it so many times too, used to trail run this quite a bit when I was training properly. Wish I was close to it do I could do my morning cardio there 😄
The first part though, especially the other path that goes from the main car park, Corn Du and Pen Y Fan get stupidly busy, like the 'Snowdon of South Wales' as you know 😂 When I went back uo to Pen Y Fan with that girl we had to stand in a que of about 17 people or so to get a pic of her with her race bike by the plaque lol.
Yeah the last time I did that route just before Christmas was mostly in the clag, photos are down my Insta page somewhere. Definitely a great walk for people to get out and about, just dont understand why so many people get to Pen Y Fan and go back down 🤷🏻‍♂️😆

Hi Chris😊👋 just catching up on your videos! We have been away on a special trip making memories and vlogs, or are they both the same thing🤣. We really enjoyed this video, great to see your whole route and the three peaks together. Looked like a long one but a great one, and as you say the path is good, its going on our list for sure😊👍. A good choice in timing and route to avoid the crowds, always so much nicer when you have time by yourself to take the views! Are you off to Scotland soon, we can't wait for those videos! Take care and have a great week, Shell and Pete😊👋

Hey!! Thanks so much for watching as always, ive got to try and catch up on some RUclips when I can, maybe this afternoon if I get chance. Been soooo busy these last couple of weeks havent really turned my tv on at all!
Wow that is awesome 👌🏻 hope you both had a great time and cant wait to see your vids if you filmed too. Yeah its not to bad around 11.5 - 12 miles this route but very easy terrain nothing technical at all.
Im hoping to get up to Scotland in the next couple of weeks thats my plan so 🤞🏻🤞🏻
Hope you are both enjoying your weekend and thanks again 🙏🏼✌🏼😃

Hi Chris, been eagerly waiting for this one since I bumped into you as you were making it. Still can’t believe that the young lady we met took her bike over the final ridge but hey, respect to her and I’m sure you helped her a bit. Thanks for showcasing this beautiful walk which is close to where I live. Sometimes we don’t always appreciate what’s on our own doorstep and it takes a visitors views to remind us. When we spoke on the day you mentioned you were thinking about getting a drone, any progress with that yet?

Hi Rob!! Yeah I remember having the chat with you 😃 sorry for the delay in uploading I had it in a que of a few vids haha.
It is such a beautiful area I love the Brecon Beacons, been there so many times over the years way before this channel even started, but do want to start to go there more, I always seem to venture North haha.
Yeah I helped when needed too but she just had the bike on her back carrying it up haha said it was light and she was fine for the most part. Fair play to her!
Did you manage to get to the part of the reservoir you wanted to go to?
I am still getting the DJI Mini 2 yeah for definite! Just got a fee big payouts this month so hopefully after that ill be able to get it. Want to get the fly-more combo too so a little more.
Thanks so much for watching and leaving the comment! 👍🏻👍🏻

    • @geraintowen2947
      @geraintowen2947 3 года назад +1

Its really hard to wild camp in that area during the summer. The wardens are out in full force. You can still get away with it if you know the secret tucked away spots. But in all honesty if you do go there and try to camp then ask a local RUclipsr for a place to set up. The wardens have also been a lot more strict since covid started.

Hi Rachel!! Haha nice one! Yeah it is a pretty decent hike with some great views indeed! To actually camp on Pen Y Fan or round Corn Du is a bit iffy so to speak, especially this time of year, but ive camped round other areas a few times over the years and been sound, just gotta find the right place. I was meant to do an overnighter in the Beacons the day before but something occurred.
Thanks so much for watching!! Hope you enjoy your weekend 😊 🙌🏻

Cheers Rob! It is a decent little hike this but actual Pen Y Fan gets really busy, like 'the Snowdon of the Brecon Beacons' 😂😂 When I went back up with her we had to stand in a que of about 17 people or so to get a photo with her and her bike at the plaque lol.
No I didnt find out! Just curious as they are usually in the highest point in the area for OS, but this one wasnt 🤔 so confused me lol. This has a few RIP plaques on it from people who have had family in the SAS who have died as this is an SAS training and area so a few things round there.
The walk is around 11 - 12 miles dude so not to bad and very easy.
Thanks so much for watching and the comment 😀

@@theheightoflife Yh summits have been really busy lately! Was chatting to my mate and he said something it is to do with the other trig points around it when they were using them to map the country, something a smaller hill was closer or had a better line of site to the other trig points. That is sad but yh I know do a lot of training around there. Tbh 12/13 miles I think is a perfect distance for a good walk.

Hi Maggie!! Thanks so much for clicking on my video and leaving me a comment.. really do appreciate your time 🙏🏼🙏🏼
It is a great walk this and yes most of the walk is on a path or at least one you can see has been well trodden. You will have no issues at all getting from the road up to Cord Du and Pen Y Fan as there will more than likely be 100 other people doing it lol, especially if you go from the main car park I said peoplegp from at the start. Its only from Pen Y Fan down to Cribyn etc that there will be a lot less people. It is easy enough to navigate yes but obviously depends on your experience.
I used to do a lot of training round here years ago in a previous career and know the area very well. But you do get people get 'lost' still in the clouds. To be honest though most of these people dont really do much walking and 'didnt expect the weather to change'. Like I said though it is a very easy to see path and you cant really go wrong as long as you know your direction of travel at least. As always when hiking in the hills and mountains the knowledge of use of a map and compass is a big help.
PLEASE feel free to find me on Instagram if you have it or use the email in my 'about' section and I will be more than happy to show you the loop I did on an OS map and draw a route up so you have an idea 👍🏻👍🏻
Thanks again for watching... take care 😊

Thanks pal it is a fantastic walk this especially if you have the weather on your side for views haha. I have done this a lot of times over the years in different conditions, I haven't seen any MTBs on the 'main paths' going from the road to Corn Du and upto Pen Y Fan so I'd double check on an OS map. But have seen the odd one on the other parts of the route after Fan Y Bîg.
The main paths upto Pen Y Fan though will be very busy with people unless you went very very early or in bad weather lol.
