Thanks ! Yeah I'm really glad I spent a little extra to go all steel and not do the pole barn I was originally going to do . Good luck on yours , I'm currently finishing up a few small things with mine now also .
Haha I hated doing it but most of my footage was just time-lapse because I was too busy building the building while I had help available, so voice-over was it lol . But thanks again bro I appreciate all your support!
The building manufacturer is Maverick steel buildings in GA their kit for this 40x60x16 with insulation was 43k delivered last spring and I used about 71 or 73 yards of concrete I can't remember off hand now because I over dug my footers and piers and went a little over 6" for the floor but for the concrete and them to finish it was I think about 23k and I had almost another 8-9k in rentals to dig everything and forming it myself and all the rebar and everything in the floor before they poured. If you check out a few of my older videos doing the floor, I'm pretty sure I talk about it more there, too . Thanks for watching, and if you have any other questions, feel free to ask. I'll try my best to answer!
Never thought about putting insulation on the outside of the beams. What did you do for inside walls? Plywood, sheet metal panels, or what? Did you run wiring first then put inside walls?
Yeah that's how these red iron kits seem to be with a more basic insulation package it does help as a thermal break between the sheet metal and beams so they don't radiate the cold through but at the same time you loose most of the R-value of the insulation when it's squished between the metal like that. I did all my wiring the framed up the lower 8' with wood and finished it with osb . If you look at some of my other videos I show the finished interior and how I did all of it . Thanks for watching!
@kenschopshop were there heartaches of putting the building together you talk about or things you would've done differently now that you've had some time to think about more? Haven't seen all your vids yet. Getting there!!
@miners_treasures off the top of my head I wish I hadn't dug the footers oversized so I could have saved some money on all the extra concrete I had to use and I wish I had picked a better company to finish my concrete because that's my biggest regret so far . My other regret was not asking to have the side wall (60') tension cables put to the back side of the beams through the wall girts like the end walls because now they are on the outside of my wood walls and limit how and what I can put on the walls .
@@kenschopshop I will look into thermal barrier material when I build. For houses even here in Texas houses are turning AC on once a day. Look up Yellow Blue.
@Gabmar Zen that's coming soon , I'm currently building a mezzanine in the back with an office and bathroom and getting ready to mount the mini splits soon, too . The garage door was supposed to be delivered tomorrow, but they pushed that back another 2 weeks now
Awesome! I think for efficiency, the spray foam is definitely the way to go for sure . Congrats and good luck on your new building! And thanks for watching!
Do you get any condensation with that type of insulation? We will be building one iron beam metal building this summer and wondering if we should buy this type of insulation or save for spray foam?
So, I used R-19 fiberglass batt insulation for the ceiling and R-13 for the walls . In my area/climate here in VA, it's fine for me . The only real functional issue is that because it's sandwiched between the steel frame and the sheetmetal skin, it compresses the insulation, and compressed fiberglass insulation looses it's R value in those areas but at the same time it also acts as a thermal break from the outside metal to the inside metal except for where all the screws go through. I personally don't have any experience with spray foam yet, but if it's something you can afford to budget in, then I don't see why not .
So when I first put the garage up and didn't have the door up or plastic sealing it up we had a few super humid days that were cold at night but hot a humid and it did get a little condensation inside but once I put the plastic over the door opening I never had that issue again. Luckily, the insulation I have is a vinyl faced, so it basically was a vapor barrier that kept the fiberglass dry from the moisture that came in the door from how wet the air was .
As of right now I'm 127k in including, permits , ground work , equipment rentals the steel and insulation package from maverick steel buildings, all the electrical supplies, doors , and lumber to build my loft/mezzanine in the back that I'm finishing up right now . Hopefully, soon, I'll make a video showing everything completed and do a cost breakdown of everything. And keeping in mind I did all the labor myself with the help of friends family and neighbors (for favors owed lol) so I saved a lot there I only paid people to clear the site and build it up and I paid the concrete guys to pour and finish the concrete but everything else has been me and friends so far . Thanks for watching, and thanks. I'm really happy with the way the building is coming together!
They required a 20% deposit to get started on the engineered drawings for the building and the foundation and to put it in queue to start manufacturing. I had the engineered drawings in I want to say like 2 weeks or less
Hey Dan, thanks for watching! I'm honestly not sure this was just a personal project for myself but I can tell you with doing most of the labor myself for this building I'm up to 127k so far including all the electrical and lumber for building the mezzanine (will be in future videos)
Oh yeah, for sure, it's actually been doing pretty good so far, maintaining temperature with just plastic up for the 14x14 open for the garage door . I actually just installed the new door on Saturday but still have a few things to finish up on it to be operational. And once I'm done with that, I have 2 -3 ton mini splits to finally install. I'll hopefully have a video posted soon of the mezzanine I built in the back of it . I'm using it as an office and hang out area but could definitely be a place to live if I piss the wife off 🤣
The steel and insulation package from maverick Steel buildings was 43k, and with everything else, including the mezzanine I'm building in it right now and all the electrical, I'm right at 127k. Once I'm done, I'll do a cost breakdown video to better cover it all
Haha yeah I know it's bad right, I always knew I did it when I was thinking of what to say on the spot but for some reason trying to talk to myself on a camera I do it way more lol . I have been trying to stop myself from doing it as much and just pausing when I would auh or uhm or stop and resay what i was trying to say that way I can at least edit it out , but a lot of time especially in these earlier videos I just wasn't thinking about it and wasn't interested in wasting the time because I was in a hurry trying to finish up stuff . In my newer stuff and stuff I'm trying to film now, I'm trying to consciously stop myself from doing it .
This garage is exactly the way I would build. Mine but I would go with the highest walls. I could be go with because I wouldn't want car lifts in there but this is absolutely gorgeous? What did something like this cost ballpark please? Comment back thank you
Thanks ! Yeah I went with 16' walls to have the room for a second floor mezzanine/loft and for a lift . The building package was 43k but so far I'm 128k into it right now with everything almost done . Hopefully I'll have a new video edited soon showing the loft and everything almost finished up .

I really think it helps. I got so tired of recording recently that I just shot what I was doing and recorded voice over last night. Much better.

Who manufactured the building? Also curious about how much the 40x60 slab cost to pour. Looks good!

Do you still like the black colored insulation? Does it cool differently than the white stuff (is it hotter)?
Yeah I love the look of it ! And no it's the same as if it was a white faced because there isn't and direct sun on it . Thanks for watching!

I might not have catched it but what thickness insulation did you go with?
I think I actually forgot to say, but the black vinyl faced insulation in the ceiling is r19, and the white faced in the walls is r13

Did Maverick require a deposit? That's not a terrible price for the building, I just got a quote for my wood trusses, 14k 50x60x16
