LG Glasstop oven - Buttons not working? How to fix it!
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 9 июн 2018
- Proceed only at your own risk!! If you choose to try this fix, be sure to unplug the oven first (I plugged mine in only to demonstrate) - this has happened to my oven more than once, so this is not my first time fixing this.
I did call LG, and a service call would have been 1/4th the cost of a new oven just to diagnose the problem, not including parts - so I really was not at a loss to attempt this. Do not try this at home unless you are willing to purchase a new oven, you assume all risks if you attempt to fix this yourself.
If this helps you save your oven, please leave a comment! I do accept RUclips's "Super Thanks" too!
If you need electric contact cleaner, you can find some here: amzn.to/31nZ1kc
If this video helped save your stove from being replaced, be sure to give the video a thumbs up and leave me a comment. If you're VERY happy that it saved your oven, you can use RUclips's "Super Thanks" by clicking the button with the 3 dots and contributing to my channel!
I'm happy to help!!!
As a single senior I had saved this video thinking that I would try to fix the touchpad on my LG stove when the START button stopped workin. Even though I’m pretty handy I had second thoughts about tackling it. I called LG to order the part. They told me that it was no longer available.I then put in an order for a new stove 😡. Last ditch I called an LG service company to see if it could be fixed. The tech said that he would see if he could get the panel but not hopeful. He started to pack up to leave but I asked him about cleaning g the ribbon connector as I had seen on your video. He agreed and, guess what? It WORKED!!!!! Needless to say your video saved me a ton of $$$$ and the repair guy learned something I assumed he did not know? (And why did he not know to do that?) Thank you so much for posting this important video.
It’s comments like this that make me so glad that I had made this video!
Truth be told, I’m about due to clean mine again. Some of the buttons are becoming less responsive again. This will be the 3rd or 4th time I’ll have done this. Obviously it’s a design flaw.
This is extremely, extensively helpful, thank you so much for sharing. I was welling to buy a new one because I knew the cost of fixing is not worth it. My main problem is that I don’t even know how to take the old one out, as the people who will deliver a new one will never take the old one away, this based on my past experience. You not only saved me money, but you saved me a headache of dealing with the old one. I can’t express my gratitude enough, thank you.
I have one burner that will only run on HI as the - button won't work. Tried this and it didn't help. But glad it helped a bunch of others!
If you have buttons that aren't working, normally this fix works. Give it another shot and make sure you got everything cleaned up? Best to try again versus needing a new oven anyways.
If this video helped save your stove from being replaced, be sure to give the video a thumbs up and leave me a comment. I'm happy this helped!!!
We just tried this, but instead of using contact cleaner, we simply removed the ribbons, and used a can of compressed air to blow out where the ribbons fit into, and it did the trick. Our 4 was not working, and our proof button was not working, but they are now! Thanks so much for posting this, as I don't think we would have necessarily thought to remove the ribbons to clean them. Again, thank you very much!
Thank you, thank you, thank you are the best. Mine was doing the same thing but not as bad. Just half the panel was out after we had a power outage. I did what you said and everything is working and save us from going to buy a new one. Thanks again!
The only button that wasn't working was my start button. I tried pulling out the ribbons first (without cleaning them) and it worked! Thank you so much = )!!!
AND MAKE SURE YOU NEVER BUY A SUCKIE GOLDSTAR PRODUCT AGAIN. The professional grade GE stuff is much better. It will cost more, but will last more than a couple years
thank you, our start button wouldnt work. thought we needed a new stove but tried this a it worked like a charm. thank you, thamk you!!
This is awesome thank you. I bought a double oven stove for $100 bucks used bc the previous owner said that the top and lower oven bake functions wouldn't work but the convection function on the lower oven would work fine. She said it was the buttons and if you kept touching it eventually it would turn on properly. I looked up the cost of the part and it was $649. But still... I figured paying a total of $749 for a $1600 stove that is only 2 years old is still a good deal. I came across your video and another one and I used a pencil eraser to rub the contacts clean and it worked!! You just saved me $650! And I now have a fully functional $1600 stove I bought for $100 lol. Thank you!
Use DeOxit contact cleaner and the connections will stay good for a long time
Just had my family spend 5 min thanking me because we can't afford a new oven and I followed this video to fix my oven! Thanks bro
Happy to help! Plan on needing to redo this again after 10-12 months.
Same oven same issue for years getting worse all the time. I was just about to replace it when I decided to try and figure it out one more time and found your video! Fixed!!! Years of this driving me crazy and it’s fixed tonight. Thank you so much!!!! Thank you!
Happy to have helped!
I used isopropyl alcohol to clean mine and it worked like a charm! Thought I was gonna have to get a new oven! Thanks a million for this awesome tip and video!!!
Glad it helped! I thought the same thing myself.
Ok, thank you!!!! Our stove has been out for months, and we have been cooking in our toaster oven. Yesterday for Christmas dinner we cooked the entire meal in the toatser oven, which finally motivated me to see if there is a fix for our LG. I cannot believe it, but it took me 3 minutes and an eraser to fix our issue. Can't wait until next Holiday to cook like a human being. lol. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
You’re welcome! Happy to have helped!
Hey buddy I just want to thank you for your post. I went and bought one of these stoves that was doing the same thing that yours was took it apart and clean it with electrical contact cleaner and it works. Got $1000 stove for $200 and it is literally six months old I appreciate your help
Awesome, great job! Happy to help!
Since my 46 yr old husband passed away on 3.17.21 4 of my newest LG appliances all took a dump. Matching washer (bearings issue), Dryer (circuit board & dryer sensor?), Refrigerator started freezing everything in the frig & that's with a whole lot less food so it wasn't over packed & I clean it EVERY week, dishwasher stopped heating & cleaning. I ran the required cleaner thru it every mo & barely used it this past yr. I now wash 90% of everything by hand since my spouse passed since not that many dishes get dirty since my son's are at school, gone with friends or working pt - so they are not home much to get many dishes dirty. Then 4 days on the 1 yr anniversary of my husband's passing I now think this house must be cursed when the 5th appliance (stove) when my buttons wouldn't do anything when I pressed on them. That too I clean diligently almost daily & even made plastic covers to not scratch the stove top when not in use. I use all major name brand recommended cleaning supplies. I will NEVER purchase another LG in my life. They were all a Xmas present I bought myself under 5 yrs ago. They were either too expensive to repair or have cost me 50% of the purchase price to have a repairman come fix. I'm praying this works on my stove. Thank you. We need a man in this house, I'm sick of all the honey do stuff & repairs already as a female.
We have exactly the same oven with the same problem and this fixed it beautifully. Thanks so much!
Awesome!! Glad this video was helpful!
I already need to do it again myself - but it’s just one burner right now. Probably a project for this weekend!
I also used isopropyl alcohol 70% to clean the 2 contacts and an old Insurance ID dipped in alcohol to push into the 2 slots and it worked!!!! Impressed the wife and don't have to pay for appliance repair... A million thanks!
I’m just happy to help!
Oh my gosh I love you! It's 5:40 at night on a Saturday and I have a cake that I have to have ready tomorrow morning. I could not get my oven to turn on. Thank God for Google and RUclips because they led me to you. I'm so freaking excited I couldn't figure out where I was going to get this done tonight.
👏❤🎂❤🎂❤🎂❤🎂❤👏
So happy to have helped! Congrats!
@@tsr6 this wasn't like not being able to get any cake done. I have a cake business. People put some of their most special life events in my hands. There's no permission piece for failure to deliver.

Your the man! 14 year old stove works like new! And if you knew what it takes to get a stove out of my kitchen and put in a new one , you would understand why I’m so friggin happy! Cheers to ya!
Haha glad I could help!
Stupid start button wasn't working, so no oven for us. Found your video, 5 minute fix later, button is working like a charm
Thank you very much for this video, this was pretty cash money of you!
Happy this helped for you!
This really works! Thanks a bunch for your help! Saved me buying a new stove. God bless!
Happy to have helped!!!
Thanks for the how to! Worked perfectly and got me back on schedule to fix dinner. I used alcohol wipes, worked well.
Happy to have helped!!
This worked for me without the need to do the card trick and clean the blue part. Thanks Lots!
Wow - incredible fix. Thanks a million! Saved us a pile on a new range and the fear of it turning on and starting a fire by itself.
Absolutely happy to help!
Thank you very much. You rescued my stove and saved me the $$$ and aggravation of shopping for a new one
Happy to help! Congrats on fixing yours!
You are my favorite person today! Less than 5 minutes and I can use my burners again! I didn't have contact cleaner so I just used rubbing alcohol
Glad to help!
I also want to note - I have had to do this multiple times now. Unfortunately, the problem for me did return after some time... but it's at least buying me some time before I get mad enough to buy a new oven.
Hey, where do you put the alcohol? Please i need to try with my stove
Thank you for this video. Saved me buying a new stove ... for now! Used isopropyl alcohol and all buttons work again :)
I’m so happy to help! If you can, give the video a 👍🏼 to help others find it when searching!
This worked, saved me from calling for repair. Thank You
Glad it helped
Thank you for this valuable information! I was going to order a new control board for about $200 and if that didn't work a new touch pad panel for about $100 but fortunately I saw your video first. I used isopropyl alcohol on the ribbons and now everything is working again! Thanks again!!
Happy to help!
I should go through the comments someday and estimate how much money this video has saved. 🤣
Do you know were i found It to bay ?
Thanks buddy! Had a heck of a time getting the release to work and was hesitant to pull on the ribbon not being familiar with it, but did the trick. Slightly different setup with just one ribbon connection but worked like a charm once I used disinfecting wipes to clean the ribbon. Had an electrician look at it a couple years ago and he recommended a new board or just replace. The bake button was working intermittently sometimes after we turned on one of the back burners before hitting the bake button afterwards so held off until recently.
Hope it helped! We’re thinking another year and we’ll replace it…
Thanks for this. Two of my elements would only stay in high but now everything is working!
Glad it helped!
Thanks! Our 8 year old LG (same model) started having buttons not work randomly like yours, now I know exactly what to do to fix it.
Glad to help!
Thank you! This worked perfectly - you saved me the cost of a new stove for a while longer.
I have to reckless mine about once every 6 months now - just a heads up!
@@tsr6 Thanks for the heads up!
no problem - just a bad design
Thanks so much for the awesome instructions! I had numbers that wouldn’t work. Cleaned with alcohol and works like a charm!
Thank you! Be sure to give the video a thumbs up 👍🏼 too so hopefully it’ll help the next person too.
I’m just glad to help, as I know how frustrated I was when I thought we needed a new oven!
I have this exact appliance and all the buttons work again! Thanks you!!
Glad this helped!
This worked perfectly for me. I thought I was going to have to buy a new range. I added a little dialectric grease to keep it from happening again. Thanks for posting!
I never even thought about dialectic grease! Glad to help!
Jarrod Samford Do you apply the dielectric grease around the base of the connection after you have reconnected the cleaned electronic strips?
@@s.f.9021 I didn't leave any excess anywhere. If you leave it piled up dust and dirt will build up and cause you more problems down the road. Just put enough to coat the ribbon ends.
Thank you!! This helped us right away! Easy... our oven was driving us crazy with buttons not working. Thank you!!
I'm happy this helped, is it still going strong?
@@tsr6 haha so funny I saw this reply come up on my phone like what? That was half a year ago? LOL yes! It sure is! Your video saved us, really helped- and still going strong over here!
I’ve had to redo mine since! Still going strong though - figure if I have to do this 2-3 times, it’s worth the savings alone!
This worked perfectly for me. I am SO happy!!
Happy I could help!!
This worked for us!!! So thankful for your helpful tip! Money saver for sure!
Happy to help!
It worked, I have a whole can of contact cleaner, I will probably never use, but that is a better
than buying a new oven!
Glad to help!
Thanks for the tip! One note though - I’m no electrician but it would seem like a best practice when dealing with anything electrical to shut off the breaker for the unit.
Or unplug it
Thank you for this video! My oven is now working again!
Happy to help! You may need to do this again in 6-12mo
This worked for ours! Thanks. 10 minutes, max!
Glad this helped!!
All buttons but the start would work, took 5-10 minutes. Oven is back in business, thanks for the tutorial.
No problem! I need to do this to mine again, have two buttons that stopped last night.
This just saved me - at best, the cost of a technician coming to do what you showed (which I am clearly quite capable of doing) - at worst, a whole new oven! Thank you SO much for sharing. Your instructions were easy to follow and I was done in 20 minutes. Thanks again!
Happy to help!
This worked for mine today. Been having issues with buttons for years. Hopefully it works for a long time.
Thanks
Glad it helped
This video saved us hundreds of dollars. Thanks so much!
Happy to have helped!
Brilliant detective work! thanks for sharing
I'm happy to help! Is it still going strong?
My mom’s stove had two burners that would not turn on an one that was stuck on at full blast that would not turn off. (We had to unplug the stove) When we found this video online of her exact same model with easy to follow instructions for a possible solution I was excited to give it a try. Truth be told, I think my mom was afraid I was going to reck it, but this quick fix worked beautifully! She was so happy to have it all working perfectly again. Thank you so much for this excellent video! It saved us the trouble of having someone come in and charge us big dollars for an easy fix.
QUESTION:
I noticed someone said they also applied dielectric grease to theirs to help prevent it from happening again. Can someone tell me exactly where and how you apply the dielectric grease? I am assume you aren’t supposed to get it on the end connector components or inside the connector chamber. Are you supposed to spread it around the base of the connection after you have reconnected the cleaned electronic strips?
happy it helped - i dont have an answer on the dialectric grease though
Good question. Following
Thanks for the insight. It was very helpful!
Happy to help!
Thank you soooooo much! Bake, Start, and Timer buttons didn't work. Can't thank you enough.
Happy to help!
This helped me. Thanks a lot!!!
Awesome!! Glad to hear this helped!!!
Wow I did this and it worked. TY so much. My ribbons were really stuck so I had to be extra careful pulling them out. I used rubbing alcohol and cutips.
You’re welcome. You may have to do it again - I find that I am doing it every 6-10 months on average.
@@tsr6 That’s okay. It was really dirty on the sides of the oven. And Ill probably have to clean it once a year
That’s about what I have to do
It worked!!!! Thank you so much!!
Happy to have helped!!!
I used rubbing alcohol and it worked perfectly! Only took about 5 minutes and all buttons are working again. I had to tinker a bit with the connections after cleaning them to get them connected again. I'm very happy I'm not going stove shopping again. Not my first LG appliance with annoying problems, would not likely buy another LG appliance.
Glad this helped!! Agreed - I will buy another brand if this trick stops working - or if something else goes wrong.
Good video. About to try it with our Frigidaire oven. Same problem - different brand. 😕
Thank you soo much. It worked for me. I used some alcohol and went back over with water on a paper towel. This is been going on for almost a year on and off. I don't know why i didn't search this up!!!
Great solution!
Happy to help!
very interesting
I wish you a nice Sunday evening
friendly regards Frank
thanks Frank! Thought it'd be helpful for anyone with the same oven as me.
Great video.worked for me
Glad to help!
Thanks! You helped me to save money!
I’m so happy to help!
Yes! It works! Thank you
Happy to help!
IT WORKED!!! THANK YOU!!!😅
Happy to help!!
Worked for me. Thanks.
You’re welcome
WOW... Great tip!!!
Glad it was helpful!
Hi!! Can you tell me what is the model of this oven?? I have to buy a part and I can’t find the model. Thanks in advance! Great video!
Used vinegar as I had no contact clean. Working again ...thanks for the how-to!!!
Awesome!! Glad it worked for you too. Seems like this was a bad design.
Yes I agree. I had to do this once about 6 months ago and then again today. Wonder how long the trick will work until the contacts completely go out.
Jennifer Rayman yeah, I need to do it again myself. All the burners work minus the big one. It stopped working again about 2 weeks ago. I just haven’t felt like tearing it apart yet again. Seems to last about 6mo at a time.
Thanks!
Nice video. Say, with the push button burners, are you guys more likely to leave the burners on? Compared to knobs? I'm debating which style to use. Thanks!
I haven’t had an issue leaving burners on
Totally worked.
Happy to have helped!
Great tips...I have a question. After a thunderstorm strike down last week on my house,my LG stove burner stayed ON, high and couldn’t turn it off, I had to unplug it. Can this be fixed. If yes, which part(s) need to be replaced.
Thank you
I can't help on this one. Sorry.
Seems like it worked ty
You're welcome!!!
It worked. I reset the ribbon cable and it made the buttons on the stove work again
Glad to help!
just came from the I had a contractor come and sealcoat my driveway - timelapse. video lol
I don't expect this one to be anywhere near what that video did - I'm just hoping to help anyone who googles "LG Oven buttons not working" like some of the videos I found to help me.
thank you thank you thank you thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Glad this helped you!
Someone needs to buy this man a beer. Just saved me from having to replace my stove.
I do have "Super Thanks" turned on if you'd like to buy me a beer that way! lol
Seriously though, really glad to help. Based on the comments, I've already saved a lot of people needing to buy a new stove. This video showed my last ditch effort, as I was going to buy a new one if this didnt work as well!
Wow, you just saved our dinner and our sanity! The only thing that still doesn't work is the clock button, but I don't care about that as long as it cooks my pizza. Thank you so much for posting!!
Happy to help! Try again - I just had to do mine AGAIN this past weekend and one button didn’t work until I did it a second time.
Make sure range is unplugged first. Use a rubber pencil eraser to clean ribbon cable contact surface and fix should last longer.
Do you know how to fix this code F- 3. I have the exact same stove from your video. It will help us tremendously.
I’m sorry, I’m not familiar with error codes.
Have a good day
you too!
Thank you you saved us $600
Also I subscribed.
I’m so happy to hear this helped you!!
I have a GE induction stove but the ribbon ends don’t snap off like I’ve seen these videos
This is only for the LG stoves.
My buttons still work but a couple are very stubborn. Is it possible to clean Individual contacts on the touchpad?
Basically just have to do what my video shows, really the only option.
Do you have video if the LG oven stays stuck to open and doesn’t turn off?
I don’t…
02:06 I was thinking 'Oh no, he's gone and broke it again'
spoiler: it's all good
What make/model of lg oven is this exactly? We bought our 2nd hand and I'm having issues with oven warming
This only helps if the buttons dont work
What sort of solution did you use to clean the "ribbon"? Was it rubbing alcohol?
Yes, anything that will cut the oil/grease and not damage the electronics.
What do you do after remove that next 🤔
???
So my Stove Lights are working but the heating is not coming, got any suggestions?
Surface or oven?
Nice video. I'd recommend people unplug the power first.
Good call!
This didn't work for me. Is it possible to take the other ends of the connectors off and clean those also? We have similar problems in that our buttons are not working also. Some do and some don't.
Do you have the exact same model?
Would this work on a dishwasher too?
Not familiar with their dishwashers
How do I put back a button on the stove on a kenmore stove
Not sure what you mean?
What is the model #???
What's contact cleaner
Cleaner for electronic contacts.
All my buttons work, but i gotts push kinda hard for the button to respond
Hi, were i found de membrane for the panel, to bay? please, (site) i live in Brasil, fonte haver parts
Dont
I have not ordered parts
Like everyone else OMG my two small burners are back online stove is @ 100% (q-tip And rubbing alcohol cleaned the ribbon strip)
Unfortunately, this didn't work for me. Another youtube video suggested cleaning the contacts with a pencil eraser; tried that too, and it didn't work. I guess I have to buy a new range. I hope I can find an inexpensive one that doesn't have a touchpad. This problem, according to what I've read happens to all touchpad, regardless of brand. Thanks for this video; evidently, it works for many.
I have also been sticking a trimmed business card into the slots where the ribbons go into to clean those connections.
You got to be careful with credit card sticking inside the ribbon port , if its thicker then slot of the ribbon you can bend contacts inside and than your ribbon will not have a contact.I would not recommend use the credit card.
Good video.very helpful!
You will never find an oven without an electronic control. They don't exist anymore
@@GBS1043 so true
I don't even have clock display, I have an amana, ??? help
This is only for this specific LG model.
A salesperson at Best buy told me all those panels are bad because they overheat. Buy a stove with a panel on the front, away from the heat vent that is in the back of the oven. Same with self clean, it gets so hot for so long it blows the panel!!!!
This is just due to grease and such getting to the electronics.
@@tsr6 so we took ours apart yesterday. There were no ribbons on ours!!
@@denisewilliams9382 This only applies to this specific model as pictured.
Man this isn’t working for me.. tried about 5 times cleaning with alcohol and the business card and still not working.. why do they make these connections so cheap? Could something else be broke?
It could certainly be something else - but this is one of the most common issues.
That's nice for ppl who can pull their stove out... Mine is built in...
thats a bummer
tsr6 I pulled it out. Lol.
Lord I hope this works cause our landlord already won’t get us a fridge (we haven’t had a fridge in over 2 weeks) she deff won’t get a stove
did it work?
It didn't work for me, I peeled the mack tack panel in the front off, slowly and there was a break in one of the lines. You can't fix this by soldering. It is a very sticky plastic layer with electrical lines embedded on the underlayer that you don't peel off. I got some very fine copper stranded wire and bridged the gap and then just left in place , an put the top layer back and it stuck down and the copper kept making contact. A couple of days later it stopped working so I just pushed on the point were I made the repair really hard and it has been working good now for about 5 months. A new panel is about $250 , so not worth it.
At that point you might as well get a new oven. At least this video works most of the time!
@@tsr6 The fix works fine and after taking the back off and trying doing what you said, That did not fix it so I got my voltmeter and found a break in the line, I think the breaks happen from the heat of the back elements hitting the control panel. It if happens again , I can probably fix it pretty quickly. You just need to peel back the panel from the front, no need to pull the stove out. No screwdrivers necessary. If they make other appliances like this, I will know what to do. I would probably have to make a video to show exactly what I did so others can understand it.
Well I can turn my oven on now but 0 and 5 don't work. I'll take it.
Do the cleaning again….
my pad doesnt even come on
Try cleaning the ribbon?
