As a veteran of this series, im super goddamn glad that this game is now to the point of both being mainstream and accessible enough for new players to get into, but also challenging enough (atleast in the endgame) to be a good ol fight for us og mh players.
@@gamechanger8908 I feel like the older games were challenging for the wrong reasons. Slow clunky combat mixed in with dodgy hit boxes and monsters damaging you purely by adjusting their position. It's not something I want to return to. I've been playing since Tri on the Wii and played every installment since (including going back to unite on the PSP) and while I have fond memories of them I just can't go back. Maybe the newer games have softened me up but this is the most fun I've had with monsta hunna
@@gamechanger8908 the games were challenging back then because Plesioth could hip check you into another dimension, but we played the games regardless of the hitboxes and clunky controls, over the years the game has gotten more accessible, tuned and clean, it's not that it's gotten easier, you've just gotten better and the games aren't as broken as they were in the past.
@@Sikt The hit-boxes in the older games (such as Freedom Unite) were falsely represented and made for frustrating fights. I am sure that the combat being quicker does make the series a little easier in the later installments, but that can be fixed by devs with faster/smarter movesets for monsters. Don’t kid yourself and say the old games were more fair or harder in the best way.
MHR is actually the first monster hunter game that consumed me lol, I just love it! I have 40 hours of gameplay and have no plans of stopping anytime soon!
@@YozoraTsukikage dude gotta realize people have different standards when it comes to video game play time... I've been playing MH since the PSP days and still would consider 100+ hrs a decent investment
I don't get why you sharing a fact about a general consensus regarding the game was taken as you being insultive or condescending. I never got from your message that you were putting the person down. I just saw it as you sharing that many veteran players would not see 40 as a long playtime. Communicating with others nowadays is sometimes difficult when some people are so ready to take offense and assume a defensive posture.
I always get the same story whenever i encounter someone who initially didn't like monster hunter. Something about it didn't grab them or they just didn't like the combat. But then they push on and have this moment, this one moment where everything just 'clicks' for them. And it is always the monsters. Their designs, patterns, behaviors and attacks. The monsters are the main star of Monster Hunter. You only look good, because THEY look good.
In a lot of action games you get stronger purely through character progression. If the game hasn't grabbed you and you aren't paying attention to pop ups you could easily miss it
I think he was playing up his lack of interest for mh games so that he could create this "I finally get it!" Narrative for the video. You actually have to be brain dead to miss the crafting in a mh game. So either hes playing or hes dumb af
Many years viewing this content and I am still hooked. Love it man! Thank you so much for putting out wonderful content. Before I do pretty much anything I check and see if you have a video for it cx
I felt the same way about this series, even for the same reasons. I should've loved this franchise, on paper it's got everything I like in games. I'm glad I gave it one more chance, this game is awesome and addicting.
the thing that draws me to the monster hunter games is the feeling of mastery you get after learning your weapon and the monster and how the 2 interact where you're able to go into a hunt and know exactly how the monster will move and how to respond to it
I think I'd rather stick to Monster Hunter Stories. Ultimate 4 and Generation were way too brutal, I didn't like it and always felt bad even though they are invasive to the environment
Monster hunter is an amazing series once you put a couple hours in. I didnt enjoy it at first but after 10 hours it slowly became my favorite series of all time.
same, friend. i tried really hard to get into 4, because the systems looked like they'd be enjoyable but the first hours were so hard. here i am, 4 entries later, with thousands of hours sank into it
Yep it's that first initial learning curve that turns people off but once you get over that it's an amazing series! I remember when I first played MH4, I didn't know how to do anything. I didn't even know you could get new weapons or armor and was using the default gear all the way through the gore-magala fight 😂 But once I figured out how to get new gear, oh boy I put a lot of hours into it and never regretted it 👍
@Aedrius 0 I have a feeling that with time Rise will be better than World, but as far as launches goes, World wins. Because it was actually a complete game at launch. This first "free dlc" that's coming in a few days isn't *additional* content on top of the game. It's just the *rest* of the game, that should have been in the game from launch. In all previous titles high rank have had up to Rarity 8 gear. And have had unlocked HR. And have had a finished weapon tree. Rise at launch doesn't have any of that, it's an unfinished high rank. We only have access to Rarity 7 gear and we can *see* the rest of the weapon tree behind a locked questionmark tree. We're not even earning HR points at all, so the people that have been playing 300h and the people that have been playing 50h will still all be HR8 when the HR cap gets removed. It's because of all that that I say I wish they postponed the release a month, so we could have a finished product to play at the get go. And we could be looking forward to additional free content instead of having to look forward to the rest of the game. It's like we're just playing a reeeally big demo rn.
@@halosaft I honestly did not know about those things because I have been too busy to sink enough time into the game to reach the top of high rank so far. While it has not affected me I agree that is a shame fir Monster Hunter Rise compared to earlier games. However, they did still deliver a great game in terms of mechanics and I have yet to encounter any serious bugs that ruin my enjoyment. I agree it is better to release the game when it's complete, but if there's a lack of content that is released within a month rather than big flaws seen in so many other games I am OK with it.
@@jonasawi Yeah, I have probably played 150h in Rise, knowing that the ending is unfinished I took my time with it before hitting HR7, plus I've helped my gf get through the game as she got it later. So I've basically played it twice. But it's sad because with every other release I've put even more time after this long post release. With MHW I probably had close to 250h after this long. But because it's unfinished I can't find much reason to play, I don't earn HR points yet, I don't want to waste my materials on melding Rarity 7 talismans because we're probably going to get Rarity 8 soon and there's not much point in min-maxing your sets because we've not gotten the rest of the weapon trees yet. I've still been farming some materials and simply saved them for future melding instead of using them immediately though. Like I said, I like the game and think it'll be great with time, it's just the state of it's launch I have a problem with. Speaking of major bugs there was a bug with the purchable dlc that caused people to not even be able to play their savefile again until they fixed it (they fixed it a few days ago though, so now people can play again) and Dango Bombardier is bugged and doesn't work for bowguns at all, so any bowgun user who's eating that in their meal is wasting a slot. A funny bug is that Dango Defender is called Dando Defender. Not a major thing, just funny.
@Aedrius 0 I doubt we would reach MHGU of monsters that's pushing it to the limit, in 4u we had 72 monsters in iceborne we had 71 and gu we got 93 we had that many because it was a celebration for the last generations
Why so many people seem to have some sort of disdain or prejudice towards MH but once they try it out they suddenly love the franchise sinking 100+ hour into a game without noticing? I don’t get where the hate comes from
it’s a masterpiece this game was a gamble game for me bc i have never played a Monster Hunter game before. after 90 hours of gameplay, i am super happy to say that i was dead wrong. i am now a fan
Hey man, I'm glad to see you finally enjoying a Monster Hunter game and really getting into it. My brother and I have been playing since MH Freedom on the PSP, if you ever want to hunt, we'd be happy to help you mercilessly slay monsters any time!
considering the lack of story in monster hunter games, its my personal belief that you are meant to make your own stories, like a soldier returning from war telling his friends and family about his victories.
In a way you are kinda right. Every generation has its legendary hunters. With The 1st generation defeating Lao Shan king all the way to the 5th generation beating the sapphire star.
I find it funny how a lot of people have similiar reactions to a MH game for the first time. I remember trying MHW for the first time shortly after it came out and dropping it 10 minutes later because the gameplay felt slow and clunky to me. I decided to get MH another chance with Rise, currently at around 200 hours and I'm still loving it. It honestly grew on me and it's making me wanting to try out not only MHW again but older games in the franchise like generations ultimate. I'm really glad to be a part of this community.
Tried Freedom Unite dropped it because I had no idea what to do tried Generations and kinda getting there till my 3ds died went back to freedom unite fell in love with it, got a switch with GU also got into it because the ammount of monsters and content
Monster Hunter was always a series I wanted to get into, but never could. Tried Tri on the Wii, World on PS4, but Rise is the one that just clicked. It's definitely a game that is hard to put down and has me going, "One more hunt" all the time
You have absolutely, without a doubt the highest production quality for your sponsor content, and honestly, even though I’m a fan (so there’s probably some sub-conscious bias going on here) arguably one of the highest production qualities of, like, literally any other RUclips content creator that’s in your arena, for lack of a better word. So just wanted to check in and say: Yo...you’re killing it, Wood. Thank you for continuing to kill it. Every day, all day.
Appreciate your initial take on this game. I've always struggled with getting into MH games. MH Stories (3ds) was the only one I've purchased this far. I might just pick this one up. Thanks!
Alright, I've been sitting on the demo since it was released, and haven't cared enough to give it a shot. You've given me the motivation to check it out...and probably purchase it.
im always happy to see people get into monster hunter!!! as a fan for many years now its one of the best feelings to see people see how fun and amazing monster hunter is!
Opinion: I kinda want to make everyone understand that monsta hunna's appeal is kinda like how souls like games have faithful fans. The only reason why this game is not being renowned for its difficulty is because strategy type players can find creative ways to make the game easier (or in their terms "cheese" the game) . I hated monsta hunna the first time I played it (my first monsta hunna game was monsta hunna woold) rurikhan (mildy famed monsta hunn player and makes some amazing guides for the game, I could consider him one of the best hunters around) admitted that he himself hated monsta hunn the first time he played it. Monsta Hunna is a complex game but once you break that initial barrier of entry oh boy! are you in it for a treat :)
I feel that RISE has one thing that even WORLD missed, and that’s CHARM. This is at the level of Animal Crossing. I’m elated that they went this way, rather than the super realistic of World. And I don’t blame ya for “not getting it”. A friend of mine, at the beginning, didn’t get it, and sold RISE. He later bought it again, played it properly, and now, HES HOOKED. He gets it! Rise is spectacular, and in my book, may eventually surpass WORLD. Glad you enjoyed it. Also, MONSA HUNNA!?!? You do know that’ll be with you for LIFE! 🤣
Omg, as soon as you told your cat to start cooking for you, in your little skit, an ad started playing, showing spices getting poured into a bowl. What a coincidence.
To be honest, the older Monster hunter games are challenging. But WORTH IT. It’s just like going out in nature when I am still a child and discovering new things and discovering them myself even though I missed a lot of newer things to gain knowledge. Its just like the good ol combos on the long sword and the SWAXE xD. And I was like: “Oh, you could do that on the Long sword and the SWAXE?!?!?!?! FML!”
Great video! Monster Hunter is one of those series that simply isn't going to be enjoyed by everyone, but it was really fun to see you go through an experience that changed your mind on it. I feel like the experience of playing with friends is the most important part of understanding what the game is really about. It's a good game playing solo, but what really makes it GREAT is playing with friends. The original game on PS2 was one of the first games Capcom ever created specifically for online co-op play.
Some notes. Your Dango was way to big. Use silken tofu instead of water. Use matcha powder for green color and strawberry powder for red (gives them more flavour too). Try a sugar soy sauce glaze on them.
I remember it freling clunky to me two, but for me when i started tinking of how it'd be to use the weapon myself instead of clunk i started to feel the weight of my attack, rather than play a hack and slash ot turned into a strategy game where every attack was a decision i had to stick to and it got me more immersed into fighting than ever.
I'm someone who's favorite playstyle is super movement and hack and slash (such as warframe) but i played 300hr on mhw and it was my first monster hunter game and I loved it, and now rise is making me love this franchise even more
This was my first Monster Hunter game and I regret not ever playing this series in the first place. But at the same time, with this games mobility, I dont think I could ever go back to those games either. Either way, 10/10 I'm bonking everything in sight.
"Slower and clunkier than Dark Souls" Are you talking about the Original PS2 Monster Hunter? Because World was the smoothest it's ever been until Rise. I'm trying to imagine him play 4U and then complaining about World lol.
2:36 What if u have Rimiru's Wolf as a pet? 6:26 Rathalos Armor a cool looking lightweight armor 9:44 and 8:51 Beastmaster controlling a monster xD 8:59 With Little Bug comes great power
I played Monster Hunter world and "liked" it. But I mostly just liked playing with my friends. Then Rise came out and it has consumed me. I LOVE it. I've already put 120 hours and see no point at which I will be bored. Once you beat the game you can just switch weapons and it's like a whole new game again. gah I love it!

When I got MHW for my birthday , i legitimately got to Anjanath , never touched it again and sold it . About 5 months later while at GameStop , I have the game another go since I really wanted to understand why the series was so popular in Japan . I ended up being addicted to it the second go lmao
The improved mobility in MH Rise is a true game changer. I wasn't sure about the wire bugs before release, but they have made the entire experience ridiculously more fast paced and fun
When I tried the wire bugs in the demo, I was thinking it take a while to get used to them. Now it's second nature using them.
Still hope this is not every future game I like getting Fuked when not timing my chunky slap well

@@gamechanger8908 yeah yeah am just hoping they don't drop the lid sometime down the line and we get God Eater movement haha
not that I dislike God Eater XD
As a veteran of this series, im super goddamn glad that this game is now to the point of both being mainstream and accessible enough for new players to get into, but also challenging enough (atleast in the endgame) to be a good ol fight for us og mh players.
Missed the good ol days of the games being challenging from low to G, but then again the older games aren't going anywhere.
@@Sikt no the game absolutely had clunky combat don't kid yourself with nostalgia goggles.
40 is actually a low for a monster hunter game. Even 100 hours is considered low
@@YozoraTsukikage ....Thanks for taking the wind out of my sail....My Grandfather died when I was in first grade, would you like to talk about that..?
@@YozoraTsukikage dude gotta realize people have different standards when it comes to video game play time... I've been playing MH since the PSP days and still would consider 100+ hrs a decent investment
I don't get why you sharing a fact about a general consensus regarding the game was taken as you being insultive or condescending. I never got from your message that you were putting the person down. I just saw it as you sharing that many veteran players would not see 40 as a long playtime. Communicating with others nowadays is sometimes difficult when some people are so ready to take offense and assume a defensive posture.
@@paulanderson2963 I was joking...that was the point.
Wait....You can pet your dog and high five your cat?!? HOW!? HOW DID I MISS THIS?!?
Use the wait command and options will pop out. You can also pet the cahoot.
I'm confused as to how you missed the crafting aspect when trying out earlier titles but I'm glad you're enjoying the game now!
In a lot of action games you get stronger purely through character progression. If the game hasn't grabbed you and you aren't paying attention to pop ups you could easily miss it
Yeah it's absolutely impossible to miss? He must have done a max of like one fight in the other games
Yes. Finally! My current Game of the Year. 😁
It’s so damn good
@@RebeccaChambersIRL I love it too but right now theres is not near enough content imo
It will probably be my game of the year
@Stepup420 Cant wait to get my butt kicked my apex rathalos
the thing that draws me to the monster hunter games is the feeling of mastery you get after learning your weapon and the monster and how the 2 interact where you're able to go into a hunt and know exactly how the monster will move and how to respond to it
I agree with you 100%. It's almost like a dance between the hunter and the monster, it's beautiful
I’m just here for the Dango eating cut scenes
Monster hunter is not for everyone... it is a “hard” game and requires a lot of investment to learn the mechanics.
And friends
I didn't even know you could get new weapons or armor and was using the default gear all the way through the gore-magala fight 😂 But once I figured out how to get new gear, oh boy I put a lot of hours into it and never regretted it 👍
Aint nobody got time for that, I got bills to pay. I wish I had time to try to get into it.
@@rustyshackleford6633 Damn. If you don’t have 10 hours of free time, you must be super busy.
@@rustyshackleford6633 i hope you can earn yourself some free time soon. I will say, it being on Switch helped me massively in that regard
As a monster hunter vet from freedom unite, it makes me so happy to see more people get into the series
Same.. mhfu too
They really outdid themselves with rise! I'm a long time MH fan and have never been disappointed with a MH game so far 😄
They really should have postponed the release a month though so we could get the finished product~
Took me about 3 years to like this series. Mh4u was the game that got my heart.
if you're constantly playing different mh series for three years, then you must've loved this game. You just didnt know until mh4u came
Glad the series finally clicked with you! Everyone has that moment where MH just makes sense.
Why so many people seem to have some sort of disdain or prejudice towards MH but once they try it out they suddenly love the franchise sinking 100+ hour into a game without noticing? I don’t get where the hate comes from
Not gonna lie, I was ready for a cat food ad there in the beginning
it’s a masterpiece
this game was a gamble game for me bc i have never played a Monster Hunter game before. after 90 hours of gameplay, i am super happy to say that i was dead wrong. i am now a fan

Hey man, I'm glad to see you finally enjoying a Monster Hunter game and really getting into it. My brother and I have been playing since MH Freedom on the PSP, if you ever want to hunt, we'd be happy to help you mercilessly slay monsters any time!
Been a fan since 3 ultimate on 3ds. I love that the series is getting this much appraisal and love.
I'm not even a minute in and I already know there's gonna be a perfect transition to the advertisement.
Good work as always dude!
considering the lack of story in monster hunter games, its my personal belief that you are meant to make your own stories, like a soldier returning from war telling his friends and family about his victories.

Welcome! So glad to see this many people getting into the series. Now you understand why we kept pestering everyone about how great it is!

"cat make me dango" hahahaha that really cracked me up
"Jeff Dunham style" is a phrase I never thought I'd ever hear in my entire life but I'm not disappointed
Monster Hunter was always a series I wanted to get into, but never could. Tried Tri on the Wii, World on PS4, but Rise is the one that just clicked. It's definitely a game that is hard to put down and has me going, "One more hunt" all the time

Your favorite part of the game was in every single one.
Great video, now everyone is gonna start saying monster hunna
You pointed out the monster hunna and I can't unhear it.
The wirebug and verticality makes this feel like BOTW for MonHun. I'm enjoying it too much.
Honestly BOTW could learn from monster hunter rise with how good the vertical movement feels
Wood, you've found the loop and magical gameplay that hooked me back on PSP in 2008! I'm glad you've been having a great time with Rise!
I was waiting for this for so long.
Idk why so many ppl say to switch to the japanese voices; the english voices are great
Appreciate your initial take on this game. I've always struggled with getting into MH games. MH Stories (3ds) was the only one I've purchased this far. I might just pick this one up. Thanks!
Saying "Nah, it's a good price" until wood goes game hunting #2
The fact that he had to ask if you get a palico after watching the trailers shows me I should not take anything this man says serious
Once you get into the loop, start playing with friends helping them get the materials they need for their builds. It becomes way to addicting
"Why dont you have your Raycons yet" why, WHY! Because they DONT SEND TO AUSTRALIA!! Otherwise you know I 100% would have them!
Alright, I've been sitting on the demo since it was released, and haven't cared enough to give it a shot. You've given me the motivation to check it out...and probably purchase it.
My favorite still is how you say Zeldy instead of Zelda. No judgment I think it’s awesome.
Just because you’re bad at a game doesn’t mean you should bash it
Glad I’m not the only one that failed at making Dango with my wife lol.
im always happy to see people get into monster hunter!!! as a fan for many years now its one of the best feelings to see people see how fun and amazing monster hunter is!
Opinion: I kinda want to make everyone understand that monsta hunna's appeal is kinda like how souls like games have faithful fans. The only reason why this game is not being renowned for its difficulty is because strategy type players can find creative ways to make the game easier (or in their terms "cheese" the game)
.

i'm proud of you for sticking with it until you understood what's it all about, welcome to the monhun community wood c:
To be honest, the older Monster hunter games are challenging. But WORTH IT. It’s just like going out in nature when I am still a child and discovering new things and discovering them myself even though I missed a lot of newer things to gain knowledge. Its just like the good ol combos on the long sword and the SWAXE xD. And I was like: “Oh, you could do that on the Long sword and the SWAXE?!?!?!?! FML!”
Now I can't stop hearing myself say "monsta hunta"
Great video! Monster Hunter is one of those series that simply isn't going to be enjoyed by everyone, but it was really fun to see you go through an experience that changed your mind on it. I feel like the experience of playing with friends is the most important part of understanding what the game is really about. It's a good game playing solo, but what really makes it GREAT is playing with friends. The original game on PS2 was one of the first games Capcom ever created specifically for online co-op play.
monster hunter rise has been excellent for new players "getting it" right away
Some notes. Your Dango was way to big. Use silken tofu instead of water. Use matcha powder for green color and strawberry powder for red (gives them more flavour too). Try a sugar soy sauce glaze on them.
Also use glutinous rice flour. If you use regular rice flour it just turns into a doughball.
everyone just need to admit it, y'all have been trying to make dangos at home too while playing the dango girl music as BGM lol
6 and a half minutes in: wait, he got to rathalos without discovering the ability to forge monster-based armour and weapons?
WAIT DID HE JUST PLUG HIS OWN PODCAST AND HIS SPONSOR IN UNDER A MINUTE
That's like some big brained Ryan Reynolds power move.
Some older titles are really slow looking but getting an attack done right I feel like I just got done with good sex lol
THIS IS WHAT I'VE BEEN WAITING FOR!
Either way, 10/10 I'm bonking everything in sight.
the "i don't like the game but the serie got better and now i like it" part makes me smile on so many lvls ^^'
It took him til Rise to realize how the gameplay loop works? Lmao seems like he didn't really give any of the previous titles a chance.
Dude you just made me want to pick rise back up with you falling in love with it all over again
"Slower and clunkier than Dark Souls"
Are you talking about the Original PS2 Monster Hunter? Because World was the smoothest it's ever been until Rise. I'm trying to imagine him play 4U and then complaining about World lol.
I played monster hunter 4 on my deployment have 300+ hours into it and fell back in love with this game love this franchise
