The train service in Indonesia is actually pretty good, with effective management and decent efficiency. If you're looking for a more comfortable travel experience, I'd recommend giving the executive class a shot.

For economy class between Pasar Senen and Yogyakarta, maybe you can try Fajar Utama / Senja Utama Jogja / Solo or Bogowonto instead. It's more decent because using latest version of economy class 2018-2019 series (or people called it Premium Stainless Steel).

Inn room rates may be too high, it should be $10 - $12 for the room you are currently in. For $ 18, maybe you can get a 3-star hotel next to the inn, such as the Pyrenees hotel or Malioboro palace. but it doesn't matter it's just an option, have a nice holiday. 😁

be careful if you go out at night in yogya especially if you use motorbike, you can still enjoy really wonderful night life in yogja just don't go over less crowded roads, just don't :).
Welcome to Yogyakarta, ekonomi class not bad cause the view from the train is same 😊. . Yogyakarta have two station, Lempuyangan st. For ekonomi class and Tugu st. for executive class
Other foreigners always try first class trains or tains with more expensive prices, but you guys try economy trains with cheap prices. Really Humble... Keep going😁

Actually economy class has two types, basic and premium one now, it depends on of the train. I think Jaka Tingkir train still has the basic one. But the KAI as i know will improve all the economy class to premium one. Because both has the same range of price of ticket but different facilities. The premium has facilities closer to executive class.
Maybe when you go from jakarta to other provinces in java or to bali or to sumatra, you should try sleeper bus.. it will be such convenience experience,, really recommended!
thats commercial economic class. the cheapest economic class Jakarta to Yogyakarta vv name is Bengawan train , fare only 74k Rupiah (USD 5)-it subsidized by state (public service obligation). Only one train/day, so passenger usually booking one month before date.

If you Notice All station in Indonesia have Phone Charging Station , i never found this in Europe And now they Have Free Refill for water Every train also has charging in every seat even the Economi one And very easy to find free Toilet , in Europe we have to pay till 2 Euro ( idr 30 000 )

Just used the executive one, the price not to far. To enjoy Indoensia that so very large & diverse, you have to be fit. So use the most comfortable one. It’s not expensive anyway but it will save your energy. You can sleep & rest well in it.
You are smart and wise traveller choosing the day train for your trip. You will be paid with astonishing scenery along the way. All of the train class in indonesia with AC from the lowest class to the most expensive class. In some class with free WiFi on board. No hasle and every passanger have a seat, good service and on time dep. and arrival. Lempuyangan station is not the main station of Yogyakarta, The Lempuyangan only for the economy class station, the main Station is Tugu station, nearby Malioboro street. Of course it's will be very sore and so tiring taking 8 hours with economy class. Economy class just for 2 - 3 hour trip, short trip it's still ok.
The cheapest tickets is 5 dollar each, the train name is Begawan. if you pay 16 dollar each you should get the economic premium, it's far more comfortable, the train name are Fajar Utama Yogyakarta or Senja Utama Solo

if you are a first timer to try the economy yeah i encorouge u to try.ive been try the economy class from jakarta to central java and took bout 10hrs! after that i never ride economy class ever again 😅. my back hurt after that long and static sit.
Love to see that train, all the service and maintainance are soo good right now compare what we got 10 or 5 years ago its so ridicoulus specially with ticket order and higiene back then, by the way... for 8 hours you are so strong to sit in that flat seat LOL
10 years ago, the economy-class train and its cars were FAR from how it appears today. Mind you, it was hot, humid and sometimes smells like a rotten egg. If anything, the trains looked like it came from Bangladesh. As a local myself, I'm very grateful that we had Mr. Jonan as the KAI (the train company) director at the time. The man's literally the hero when it comes to trains and stuff. Btw, we do have KFCs here. CFC in here was Pioneer Chicken's subsidiary in Indonesia up until 1987, when the branch rebranded themselves as CFC til today.

if you are a first timer to try the economy yeah i encorouge u to try.ive been try the economy class from jakarta to central java and took bout 10hrs! after that i never ride economy class ever again 😅. my back hurt after that long and static sit.

10 years ago, the economy-class train and its cars were FAR from how it appears today. Mind you, it was hot, humid and sometimes smells like a rotten egg. If anything, the trains looked like it came from Bangladesh.
As a local myself, I'm very grateful that we had Mr. Jonan as the KAI (the train company) director at the time. The man's literally the hero when it comes to trains and stuff.
Btw, we do have KFCs here. CFC in here was Pioneer Chicken's subsidiary in Indonesia up until 1987, when the branch rebranded themselves as CFC til today.
