I think schools, abandoned or not, in any country would be scary at night. There's something about places that are usually full of life, sounds and people that get very eerie when they're empty. That's especially true when it comes to things related to kids (like schools and playgrounds), since they're supposed to have a sense of innocence. Add darkness to that, and you've got yourself a very creepy combo.
As someone who has had to traverse between school buildings at night before substitute custodians were just cut loose by the school district. This is 100% true.

Kenopsia is the word to describe that feeling of emptiness of an abandoned building or any kind of empty place that once used to be busy, bustling and full of people. I would usually feel this way when I'm the last person to leave a mall when it's closing. Just the eerie feeling of a place used to be filled with laughter, noise and chat suddenly becomes quiet.
I remember having a friend from Mexico call me late at night into a Discord group chat, so I stepped out to the hallway of my dorm to not bother my roomies. I had doubts this school was really abandoned (and if it was, it wasn't for a very long time) because I recognized the English textbook as one that's still being used very recently (and still used today). I looked up the school using the name in the principal's office and the school was closed in 2018 and is now a set studio that people can rent out for filming and events. So yeah, it's abandoned in the sense it isn't used anymore as a school but it's still maintained by a company. It isn't uncommon for abandoned schools to still be maintained and used. Like what Joey said regarding Japanese schools, I agree, because here in Singapore we have a Japanese school in Changi, and I have been to that school for a personal tour from my late grand uncle & grand aunt(still alive) because both of them used to work as cleaners there, like I’m not even joking, the moment you step inside the school main entrance, you are totally not in Singapore anymore, you really feel as though you are really in Japan, the building architectures etc. So creepy & weird, like for example, the first room we saw was their arts & crafts room my goodness, then even the stairs leading to the basement like how enclosed it is, then in the basement like they have their gymnastics section etc. Just the corridor alone is creepy. This was back in early 2000s

Sorry for nerding out but about the school motto, I think I may have interrupted the meaning a bit. We all know the sky is very vast, seemingly limitless, just like one’s dreams and aspirations and future. With “Live today, see the sky,” the verse is telling us that we should look forward and to dream big, the sky is the limit such and such. “Live today, see the flowers” most would consider flowers as beautiful, but they are also rooted into the earth. The verse here would be telling us to be grounded and know where you come from. The motto is also telling us to appreciate the beauty around us, to recognize the beauty of life. TLDR; dream big, appreciate what’s around you
It's just Japanese architecture or whatever - but that principal office looks like EVERY YAKUZA OFFICE EVER 😂😂 The two couch's facing each other with a big desk behind it - I mean come on !
I am not lying when I say that you could only find this in Japan or some top 5 countries with good standards of living. If a school like this was abandoned anywhere in Europe, in 5 to 10 years, not even the walls would be standing. Nothing would be left in that building. People would steal anything...
I think old stuff is perceived as creepier or scarier than the same things that are newer is because old places and objects have been through experiences, have history and store “energy” due to being around longer. Kind of the same as how a blanket that someone’s had since a baby has more love and memories “in” it than a brand new, freshly manufactured blanket. More is “stored” in older things.
Most big open buildings are llikely creepy at night. New or old. Japanese schools likely have the creepier reputation because they're more standarised in their layout/design. Sure, the locations of rooms may vary, but you always see the same basic design for the hallways, the classrooms, and the stairs to the different floors.

TLDR; dream big, appreciate what’s around you
School was so old even joey couldn't read the kanji
it doesnt lok that old to me thooo
8:45 Bro missed out on his opportunity to call out to all the subjects of Ymir
It's just Japanese architecture or whatever - but that principal office looks like EVERY YAKUZA OFFICE EVER 😂😂 The two couch's facing each other with a big desk behind it - I mean come on !
14:30 dang Joey dissing the Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei LN.
He should've chanted "Sachiko, we beg of you" 9 times and held on to a Shikigami paper.
Corpse Party mode: Enabled
That mcr joke was so unexpected I heard the first note but doubted it until I burst out laughing because I was right
22:02 that sounded like keys jangling
I thought it was like a chair with wheels being moved. Given that there’s I believe a couple rooms with that type of chair it could be that.
@@Goleon that could be it too.
Ah a great vid, nice one to end the day
Most big open buildings are llikely creepy at night. New or old. Japanese schools likely have the creepier reputation because they're more standarised in their layout/design. Sure, the locations of rooms may vary, but you always see the same basic design for the hallways, the classrooms, and the stairs to the different floors.
I'm not gonna mention why Joey might have an interest in schools, this is a nice wholesome video.
5:19 the ghost be like: 👁️👄👁️
0:03 In the very beginning here why tf is there a headless anime girl on that bulletin board 😭💀✋🏻
0:10 also “OUUUh neou nou noh nono” got me crying laughing lmfao 😭💀😂
1:18 “to stay I overnight for an entire night” lmao
1:20 I love how he has to clarify that he wouldn’t do that because i feel like he would do that
2:04 “MOSHI MOSHI HANAKO SAM, ARE YOU HERE DESU…ARE YOU TAKING A SHIT?” PLEASE JOEY WTF LMFAOO 😭💀😂✋🏻

8:50 corpse party was all I could think of during this 😭💀😂✋🏻
10:07 and sick children there have been on there-
16:40 of course Joey can play piano… because why wouldn’t he be able to play piano 😭💀😂
17:14 imagine you just go into an abandoned school and just hear someone playing the black parwde lmfao
18:48 Joey don’t say that…why would you say that 😭💀😂✋🏻
20:28 ok but this would be absolutely terrifying to walk in on lmao
24:15 the enthusiasm saying goodbye and then just “ok now let’s get the f*ck out of here and never come back” lmfao 😭💀✋🏻
The Manga Lad doesn't miss
but Joey no Kurumi cracks from you (especially when you got to the roof) & just the one Haruhi reference (that kinda felt almost an after-thought to your inner-monologue at that specific time & space) Imagine the "ENDLESS EIGHT" sequence of eps. from 'The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya' except your loop reset after that unidentified sound happened after making your desk/bed/perch-thingy.....lucky you lolL8rsk8r!
The corpse party vibes I’m getting off this video is crazy 😂
21:51 imagine that dragging chain-like sound followed Joey upstair after he's asleep.. Sheesh.. thats creepy.
The reaper from persona 😱
School looks pristine. Hard to believe it’s abandoned
It can be rented for stuff like events, movies, music videos etc. That's probably why its still maintained. As a school though, its abandoned in that aspect.
It's sad that the school is abandoned but what makes it sadder is the abandoned artwork.... just imagining someone putting in a lot of time for an assessment and then abandoning it makes me sad.....
How is nothing dusty tho, looks oddly clean for an abondoned school.
19:15 👀 pay attention to the door on the left, maybe it's because of the light joey is moving but the timing is a little bit weird.
Probably the light from the camera
Surprises me that the cameraman didn't come back to scare the living daylights out of Joey haha
Could have been him at the 22 minute mark honestly
14:32 I may be wrong but is that "Irregular at Magic Highschool"? 😂
Yep 😂
