Definitely the same foundation of the “Hawaiian” style that AI would go on to conquer the world with and make cool for JJF/Mason Ho/Koa Rothman etc to care to continue that.
AI developed that Sunny raw power with his aggression towards trying to outwork all the groms at Pine Trees while Bruce naturally being really athletic with great body control as Andy kept growing as this Gawky 6’0 non-athlete while Sunny is built like Troy Polamalu at 5’10.5 205lbs. both Sunny, and AI along with Brock Little, Gerry Lopez, The Ho brothers, Eddie/Duke/Titus, Carissa, Rell Sunn, Bruce, Shane-O, JOB, Keala Kennelly, Kai Lenny, Sheldon Paishon, the Moniz brothers, all of the best from Hawaii by combining their warrior spirit with how their culture has and always will humbly worship the ocean as a higher power spiritually that they are forever grateful for the blessings it brings and the hard lessons. That combination somehow instills the ability to easily generate so much powerful speed, while committing 100% to stuff the best in the world are hesitant to commit to 51%, and looking to absolutely rip to shreds whatever they’re surfing especially the more gnarly it gets, while having this appreciation to slow down the moment in gratitude to still surf with so much display the most old school of elegant grace and the board control of a masterful artist with a paintbrush in their hands becoming like just another finger.

Loved this era, my teenage years 🙌🏽 I still get to see Archie having his morning sessions at T street almost daily in San Clemente 🤙🏽
Best era yet. I forgot all about a few of them names. Egan. Pancho. Archbold. Johnny Boy. Brock Little. Holland. Horan.. It was so electric back then. Great memories.
