This one time I came across Laura chatting with a group of fans on the streets of Oakland. They were extremely welcoming and told me to sit. I was like a little fanboy talking Laura up and thanking her for the much. But everyone else including Laura were just chilling. Being. Telling stories. Sharing hardships. Relating. I always knew she was one of my heroes because of the decades of fantastic punk music, but now I know it's because she's real as fuck and is so kind. To everyone. To people just like her, people so different, and annoying fans like myself. The Mountain Goats fucking rule too ;)
Similar story. I met her when AG! was opening up for Green Day in my hometown. I ran up to her and asked for a picture. Looking back I was probably fanboying so badly. But she was so nice and dealt with me anyways 😂 I was a huge fan of AG before that but after I met her they became one of my favorites of all time.
This is years later, but I saw her in a small venue this summer. After the show, she sat down on the edge of the stage and just talked to fans for awhile. Totally open to anyone and having a good time. My number 1 show experience by a mile.
I'm so glad she's a fan of the Mountain Goats. It means a lot to me to see the artists I love talk about the artists they love, and when I love both artists in the equation, it's absolutely wonderful. Also she picked songs that were perfect for her voice and singing style and I'm so glad this exists
I'm convinced I got a better grade in my Lyric Writing class in college than I deserved because she was a fan of The Mountain Goats and I was a fan of Laura Jane Grace, subsequently informed my writing and the bits and peices that stuck out.
This was so awesome! One of my favorite artists covering another of my favorite artists. I've gotten to film a session with Laura before, and I hope to have the opportunity with the Mountain Goats some day.
woah...there's just something really special about these covers. She's completely killing it. TMG are one of my favorite bands ever, and what she's bringing to the table with their songs is just awesome.
i know john doesn't play going to georgia anymore (for reasons i appreciate and respect), but him and laura singing the song together would be perfect!

They played it in Oslo two years ago, but it was prefaced by a monologue about how conflicted he was about doing it, how it felt written by someone else, someone he had outgrown. Or the impossible balance between not censoring the past VS not spouting shit. Or something. I remember it made sense at the time.

Yes, Denton Texas. It's the first track off the album "All Hail West Texas." I know Denton isn't in west Texas, but all the characters in the album end up out there eventually. I think.
The tattoo thing was sorta an accident, she wanted a cover up and on her way to the appointment there was a suicide jumper, she reached the appointment really shaken and then payed very little attention to what the artist was suggesting so then got out of true appointment and to quote “well shit”
yeah you can youtube "Going To Georgia For Sixty US Dollars" which is a live version where john only plays it after someone pays him 60 bucks, and before he does, he talks about how much he hates it. [laughter] [john sings the rest of the song]
@@MJM804what brenan was attempting to explain is that laura uses she/her pronouns and as such they are the most respectful but if you must refuse to acknowledge her as a woman it would be more respectful to use gender-neutral (such as they, them) pronouns rather than male ones as those can elicit negative emotions especially from those who are fans of hers and brenan dont jump the gun they may not have known
the punk cadences in her voice add so much to best ever death metal band wow this cover is so so good im in love
Can we get a full album of Laura covering Mountain Goats songs?
Wouldn't that be the dream!!!
YES! It would be! I'll keep dreaming
Transgirl C & C Can we get Laura and John to collab on an album?? I would die from the beauty of it
Would be amazing!!!

I'm not typically a fan of the Mountain Goats covers, but Laura Jane Grace pulls them off beautifully. I would love to hear more of them from her.
Hi. Laura Jane Grace did three Mountain Goat covers on our show The Right Note. They are on our website - www.skipi.tv - are also our RUclips page.
Had the honor of seeing this live a year or so ago. Hearing Laura's voice always reminds me where I am and who I wanna be
I'm convinced I got a better grade in my Lyric Writing class in college than I deserved because she was a fan of The Mountain Goats and I was a fan of Laura Jane Grace, subsequently informed my writing and the bits and peices that stuck out.
actual proof that everyone i love loves the mountain goats
Laura is my idol, my hero and my inspiration as an aspiring punk singer who is also trans I love you Laura
Glad you loved this as much as we did Jade!!!
This was so awesome! One of my favorite artists covering another of my favorite artists. I've gotten to film a session with Laura before, and I hope to have the opportunity with the Mountain Goats some day.
Thanks guys!!
Laura Jane Grace I love you so much, please sing us songs forever.
I always thought she sang like the guy from The Mountain Goats. And here she is singing them. Yay!
Love Laura's playing style. It goes perfectly with all the little changes between chords in alot the mountain goats songs
Thanks Trevor. Glad you loved it.
She sings with so much heart. I loved the cover!
Saw her performing 'Best ever Death Metal Band in Denton' in Prague in June, fxcking great!
Must have been awesome!!!
Against me
This brought tears to my eyes. Damn.
Pretty much the best Mountain. Goats covers EVeR!!!!!! Yay! Thanks Laura Jane! Love it soooooooo much.
Thanks Moss. Glad you loved it too.
This is probably the best thing that's ever happened to me???
Glad you loved it Anna!!
I could listen to Laura covering Mountain Goats songs all day.
a match made in heaven 👌👌👌
You can say that again!!!
I'm been on a hardcore Mountain Goats binge, I feel like it's going to lead into a LJG binge now. Love this so much
I like Against Me! and absolutely love The Mountain Goats, so I enjoyed this a great deal.
Thanks Effinity. Glad you loved it. We had an awesome time in the studio making it.
Two of my favourite things combined, nice!!
I’ve failed as a fan of both bands that I’m just now discovering this!
Incredible 🖖❤️

I dont know how I just found this but I'm so happy I did. This is beautiful and amazing. Hail Satan!
Thanks Michael!! Glad you loved it.
She does johns voice real well
I fucking love her
If u don't know about the "schools" in utah I suggest looking it up just fyi
John Darnielle must hate the fact that everybody seems to pick going to Georgia to cover

Pretty damn good reproduction of john's voice! 😮

Go she sounds just like John
I don't know why she capoed for Going to Georgia??
So she could match pitch/tone of her voice
:3
Chapter 2: Georgia Hahahahaha
Now I want to hear the mountain goats covering against me

ironically john now hates going to georgia and calls it misogynistic

The Holtsclaw they doubled down on using the wrong pronouns, it wasn’t a misunderstanding they’re just being an asshole
It’s an odd day when I find a transphobic Mountain Goats fan, seeing as a big chunk of their fans are apart or the LGBT community.
