Correct. There's a plus to it too as well, you'll feel so much better when the truth is told and it comes directly from you out of your mouth. Now if they believe you or not that's a different story, but at least you told the truth and after that who cares.

Why not just address the issue when it first comes up, rather than letting it go until you are upset and come across as rude, tactless and insensitive? Directness is fine; however when we do not deal with what is keeping us from saying what needs to be said, that is our problem not the person we are addressing.
