Industrial society is a catastrophe to humanity, but at least productive work exists and can be measured. That was, existed hundred years ago. Post-industrial society or a service economy is an even bigger catastrophe, because educational requirements are high, sociopaths have ample opportunity to fool others, most work is useless or cannot be measured and there is not fulfillment in work, a workplace is a kindergarten for adults.

Vast majority of people will accept that rather than critically thinking about the system. They will stay inside get fatter and watch Netflix rather than taking any action.
What can we do, if human are evil and ignorant?

“A State divided into a small number of rich and a large number of poor will always develop a government manipulated by the rich to protect the amenities represented by their property.”
-Harold Laski, British political theorist (1893-1950)

So, could we enter and age where necessary labour is distributed fairly and living standards can actually be improved for all?

Largely agreed, except Chomsky always seems long on "The Problems", but short on any Solutions... which basically amounts to 're-packaged' Nihilism.
And for all its faults, I for one would much rather live nowadays under the 'evils' of Neo-Liberalism in a Post-Industrial Age, which has literally lifted billions of folks out of abject poverty, who were deprived of even basic food, water or sanitation... compared to the 'alternatives' that were once considered 'normal' throughout most of History (starvation, disease, ignorance, God Kings, serfdom, slavery, etc.).

Old source is dead. New source: ruclips.net/video/8VsQyLwxxxk/видео.html
The video is titled "Noam Chomsky in London Year 501"
Chomsky appears to have been speaking at The Annual Raymond Williams Society Lecture in London some time in the 1990s

indeed, this were predictions into the future that has already arrived. at 3:50 he talks about corporations suing countries that has already happened - Philip Morris v. Uruguay. Philip Morris has filed similar cases against Norway and Australia.
