Oh how I loved this series back in the 90's when I was a teenager. We often talked about Melrose in my class, almost everyone watched it. I loved Amanda, Alison and their conflicts.
I still watch it my mom loved it when I was a teenager and I used to watch with her sometimes my wife brought me the series 6 years ago

brookes storyline was one of the best in season 4....they really wrote her charcter well, unlike many others

Melrose Place is so good that I never considered it to be a soap opera.. It was more than this. I was 12 when I first watched it and it was much better than 90210 that was aimed at teenagers but MP universe was much enticing.
I dont say i agree with MP being better than 90210, especially not in terms of writing.

Legally Amanda can't just walk into someone's residence and then fire someone. LOL. Brooke had legal right to take her for unfair dismissal. Amanda was the most unprofessional boss ever.
She should’ve sued Amanda and D&D for wrongful termination.

Technically it was Alison's apartment; Brooke was only staying there temporarily after Alison found her living in her car in the D&D parking garage (one step up from living in the streets) and Alison was getting ready to kick her out per Billy's edict. I can't practice law so I don't know whether it's legal to fire someone face to face outside an office. Brooke had done some stuff that might not have made her the most exemplary employee so her remark (after Amanda gave her a warning) of "kiss my ass" - which Amanda did have coming might have been the straw that broke the camel's back (plus Billy was lobbying for her firing saying he couldn't work with her any longer). Still Amanda should have waited until Brooke got in the office and gave her an hour or whatever to clean out her desk, etc.
@@alexisdiva9 You still have to go through Human Resources, they have the final decision. A boss can only recommend termination. Plus, since Amanda was in Brooke's quarters and it was outside of work, Amanda could be accused of attempting to fraternize with Brooke. I mean Brooke was definitely worthy of termination (her low performance, bad attitude, spotty attendance, lack of adherence to the dress code, etc. But it has to go through the proper channels. And usually to avoid having to pay unemployment, ,most employers will try and rehabilitate the employee through some sort of documented program, that way they can say it was not their fault and therefore not have to pay unemployment.

@@ericnelson9100 great clarification, although many small employers don't have a formal HR department but in this case, probably D&D did. Like you said, many employers will use something called a PIP (personal improvement plan) where the employee has to meet certain standards before a certain date and if he/she fails to comply, then he/she would be terminated, to cover all bases in case the employee claims wrongful termination. Also, in the US, many states are "at will" states regarding employment: except for government employees or those covered by contracts, an employer can let someone go for any reason as long as it's not one considered illegal (sex, race, religion, age if over 40, etc.) and similarly, an employee can resign at any time.
@@ericnelson9100 Yeah, you definitely can't fire someone like that, it has to go through official channels, especially at a company like D&D was supposed to be, with a full HR department. This was something I definitely didn't understand when I first watched this show as a teenager, but as a grown up, I definitely understand much better. You can't just fire someone, outside of work hours in their living quarters. And, you're 100% right, since they all live in the same building, if Brooke WANTED her job back, she could easily sue Amanda and D&D for wrongful termination AND for fraternizing with her outside of work hours. Brooke absolutely deserved to get fired, she was an awful employee, but, she still has rights. Once again, this was definitely something I didn't understand as a kid, but get better as an adult, and you gave a great summary.
