Bravo Mr Marconi , I bet all the TV viewers in greater Sherbroke will love you when you fire that spark transmitter up! Bosh made a combined sandblaster and tester for two stroke spark-plugs back in the 1950s

You're doing all the right stuff to track down and isolate the problem Mike, I'm sure you'll have it back running on 8 cylinders very soon.

I wish you were by me here in Wisconsin. I've got a v8 d2 started random misfiring on me 2 years ago. Replaced the wires, plugs, coil packs, couple cheap sensors forget which ones because it was two years ago and internet suggested it with no luck. Now 2 years later in trying to tackle it again...😂 what a headache

Hey have you tried the injectors? I had a misfire and did the coils and everything and it fixed it for about 9 months now there is a random cylinder 5 misfire and it smells like fuel but the spark plug is working great and receiving power while testing still connected to the plug wire. Just curious if you solved years before I take my manifold off and get injectors

I have seen people clean injectors by spraying carb cleaning up the rear and then powering them from a battery on a bench.
Of course if you have somewhere than can clean and test them. Finding the 8 with the closest flow rate to each other for a nice balanced set will be the best result.

I remember as a teenager trying to test the plug on a two stroke mower with old hold the plug against the head and turn the engine over. Thankfully I was out of the way of the flame that shot about two meters across the garden?

Strange one to diagnose as there are 2 electric components - plugs and injectors - have to check both

Had loads of intermittent misfire issues with my 4.2 v8 defender over the years. As it was dual fuel and only happened on petrol I knew it was injector issue. I read they were notorious for sticking so tried cleaner and putting a small amount of 2 stroke oil in fuel. Seemed to help a little.
But eventually I found corrosion on injector plug. Which I think was the main issue.

Hi Mike, when I had misfire issue with my Discovery 2 V8 it was the plug leads replace the original replace them with good after market ones, also had to ensure the ht leads are pushed into the ignition coils.

All leads are firing to the plugs, and all plugs are firing correctly according to the machine
      See next thrilling instalment!

I remember garages in the 70's with electrical test equipment. A Sun or AC rolling bench for testing generators, batteries or ??

Many years ago, I was testing the ignition harness on a 7 cylinder radial aircraft engine. The harness was laying on the floor and I was sitting on the floor as well. I did not realize I was sitting on one of the spark plug leads, until I got a 25,000 volt attention getter in the RT cheek! One of the guys I was working with, said I came about 2 ft off the floor! 😳
You would be correct to ASSume I never did that again.😬

Had a misfire on a car once, got the injectors cleaned but still not right. Ended up replacing an injector and it went away. We blamed supermarket fuel and bought from other places after that. Tbf, couldn't be certain that's what caused it but didn't have an issue afterwards. Pleased that my V8 is relatively straightforward with an Edelbrock sitting on top.

It would be helpful to people doing searches if you put the model in the title along with "Range Rover"

Mike, where are you sending your injectors in Canada for cleaning? I have some that need a clean, but can only find US testers/cleaners

Well, I could not find anything local, so I did them myself - next video
But I could not balance them - but to be honest, this is not an F1 car - but it sounded pretty good in the end!

Switch out injectors 5 and 6 and also 7 and 8. If it's the injectors the problem will move.

My 4.0 Disco2 has had new coil pack plugs and wires last year but started a cylinder 5 misfire today. I pulled that plug and left it connected to the wire and it has a very good spark. There's no vacuum leaks and spark plug was pretty dry but still good condition. I think maybe it is a bad injector and in addition the O-rings because I can smell fuel while driving what's the misfire started happening. Does that sound right? I haven't taken it apart yet

    • @BritannicaRestorations
      @BritannicaRestorations  Год назад

Could be a bad plug? The knock sensor on the side of the engine detects misfires not the coil pack
