  • Another week, another rant! Last week i was thinking about moving out, this week I was looking into loans for law school lol.... In this video, I share more about my thoughts on potentially moving out in this current economy, how my older sister and I are coping with how different things are than they were for our parents, and talk about the value of how precious time is when not within the scope of a 40-hour work week, even down to shopping for groceries.

I'm a Turkish guy and here in Turkey it's the normal to live with your parents until very late twenties. If you're helping with bills and groceries, that can be extended into mid thirties even. And from what I've read, it's similar in most countries in Europe. Leave and live on your own at 18 is some USA thing.

Growing up in the 60s and 70s, it was common for female to stay at home however long or until they married. Males left between 21-25, usually due to marriage but also to feel free to drink and entertain females. Families did not allow adult male or female children to have sleepovers. There were multiple reasons why this was the case; money and culture mostly. Laws changed requiring landlords to rent to people they would not have considered previously was a big part of it.

We plan on having our daughter in the house at least until she's out of university and on with her career, she's 20 now so it'll be at least until 25 , I can't understand the pressure to move out when they aren't ready yet ,that's a high chance of struggle for life later

Agree! They’ve socially programmed the people to kick out their kids at 18-so they can go to college and they don’t even know what the heck they want to study!
Same thing with the elderly! It’s such a shame because they’ve destroyed the family unit!

i moved out at 17 from an abusive home, working at night at a luxury hotel cleaning rooms for years during my university years to be able to afford this. BTW, one of the great perks of this chambermaid job was I could eat for almost free in the hotel canteen, and the food was really delicious (the same the guests got in the main hotel restaurant!).
And I lived in my own appartement ever since. I cannot imagine living with parents well into your 20s, even it s not an abusive home...

The most advantageous is to stay at home if you're comfortable there. There are so many multigenerational (even multi-family) homes that do very well. 😊 Good video 💯

In theory at least, long term roommate situations are imitation family systems. Sadly that includes both the good and the bad when it comes to family systems.

I grew up as a kid with both parents and grandparents all living together in a single family home this was the 1960s and 70s people today find that strange, both parents worked, grandparents worked until sickness grandfather died of cancer, 1973 grandmother went on disability rheumatoid arthritis 1980 passed in 1993 of cancer all worked low paying jobs without coming together they would have been in financial trouble back then even

These are such hard times for sure. I was fortunate enough to be able to stay with parents while working- saving up so I can move abroad to Spain and teach. Couldn't be happier! Cost of living is so low, and 15hr work weeks are the best. All the best to you!

It’s become way less affordable to live in the last 10 years. A townhouse I once co-owned doubled in price. For lower paying jobs you need multiple incomes to stay afloat. Nothing wrong with living with parents for a while, I left at 28. Much smarter than running up huge credit card and personal loan debt.

Many people are having to live with family members. Some of our aging parents are at risk of losing their homes because property taxes depending on location are becoming unaffordable as well.

I got married at 24 and had our son 13 days later we lived in an apartment for one year. This was back in 2009. We moved in with my parents because we couldn’t afford to keep our apartment on my Husband’s salary. We stayed with my parents for seven years until my husband was able to make enough to support the three of us, so living with your parents until you can get a good foundation is a good thing.

If you’re really trying to slash your grocery budget, you could make the drive to Aldi or Walmart buying a month worth of main groceries to make the gas cost worthwhile. Then stop at Target every 1-2 weeks for a small amount of fresh items. Good luck!

We’re in a whole new paradigm… generational living has been a thing for ever in other countries… it’s what families do when times are tough.
This current administration is bringing this country to its knees.

Now in Australia we have a supposed national crisis of a projected 1.5 million women to be unemployed and homeless within the next 3-5yrs .The government is trying to come up with incentives for business or men to help. So far no one has offered.

These are real issues in current day 2023. Why would she move out and buy a house paying 8% interest rate? The problem is that many employers are paying barely over the cost of living and the cost of living has skyrocketed, so has the housing market. The houses have not actually increased in size or function. I think she is doing pretty well being a young adult.
