It's unbelievable PSV Eindhoven had Romario & when he was leaving he recommended Ronaldo Nazario as his successor. Don't think any other Elite club has had 2 of possibly best strikers ever one after the other & PSV :)
Ronaldo had knee issues back in Brasil. His knee problems come from playing a 16yo kid vs men as a starter for an entire season. This was the seed of his issues. His 2nd season as a teenage sensation at Cruzeiro saw him lose a bunch of games because of his knee and yet be rushed in against his medical staff because at that age he probably already was the best player on earth. The steroids thing , if true, IS NOT at the root of those injuries.
European clubs did that to everybody back then. With some players it works out with others doesn't. Cristiano Ronaldo, Quaresma and Simão Sabrosa did similar artificial muscle growth but the method had evolved since Nazario's days.
Ronaldo would have broken so many records and done even much for football if not for his frequent injuries. Such a great player. Thank you @dailydoseoffootball you create beautiful contents.
He has done more for football than pretty much any other footballer. What do you mean ? His r9 boots were just re released the other day, he retired years ago.
After Ballondor was Internationalized (1995), Ronaldo was the only footballer to win it more than once until 2010, He finished his World Cup career as the Top Scorer of it. - Only Footballer in the history of World Cup to win Golden Ball (1998), Golden Boot (2002), scored Brace in Final (2002), Final MOTM (2002), Most Assists (1998), Top scorer (2002), All time top scorer (2005-2014) while retiring. - Youngest to win Ballondor - Youngest to win FIFA World Footballer - Youngest to win World Cup Golden Ball - Only Footballer to break World Transfer Record twice.
Literally every football player in Europe in the 80s and 90s was on steroids and many got caught (*cough*Guardiola*cough*). Most of them were on nandrolone and winstrol. They were also on clen and ephedrine. Later in the 2000s they moved to growth hormone, small doses of test (50-150mg weekly) and peptides.

That he maintained this muscle mass AFTER his injuries and continued to be blindingly rapid despite his weight gain later in his career all but disproves the argument however. For players who had similar growth spurts you can look at Alan Shearer, Rio Ferdinand, Rooney etc - the only coincidence is they all started early and they were all able to add bulk naturally.

Whether that includes Ronaldo I don't know - but it'd be odd for it to ONLY be Ronaldo on the PSV team if that was the case. As we have seen with other instances, it tends to be institutional with a club because of the necessary means to achieve the systemic cover-up. Regarding Italy, testing for Steroids was basically not done pro-actively in the 90's at all leaving plenty of scope for abuse, and institutional cases of doping were almost certainly underway at different times.

I’ve never heard claims of hgh/steroids use at Barca, inter and later Madrid.
@@prazman By "doping at some level" I was referring to the sport more widely, and I don't think we can dismiss the idea that drugs were used during recovery periods via supplements and special creams and ointments.
