This video is excellent. I didn't even use the sound and still was able to easily follow your directions. Kudos to you!! I would just point out that a true histogram uses class boundaries instead of class limits. In other words, your classes should read 0.5-60.5, 60.5-102.5, etc.

OMG THANK YOU! I don't know why, but I don't even need the add-in! All i had trouble with was adding numbers without excel turning them into dates and all that kinda BS! This just saved my ass, since we have a test tommorow, and we might need to make a histogram! Cheers! :)

Bins are what you ranges the frequencies are about. If you have bins 1-10, 11-20, and 21-30 then it sorts the data into groups that are 1-10, 11-20, and 21-30. It then finds the frequency of numbers in that bin. (How many numbers of your data fit in that range / the total amount of numbers = Frequency in %) The bins you use are determined by the your min and your max, as well as the range you want each on to be. So if your min is 4 and you max is 23 you might use bins 1-5, 6-10, 11-15, 21-25.
Although I'm not advanced enough in statistics to know how to use frequency density histograms, this is quite illuminating and will be useful to think about as I move further along. Thank you for explaining it! And I can see the problem now of not being able to make histograms with unequal bin widths in Excel. I'm going to be starting to learn to use Stata soon, and it will be interesting to see if that program does enable frequency density histograms--if I can figure it out I'll post an update!
A great help, although I have a small criticism. This method only applies if the intervals on the x axis are regular, as histograms are concerned with the area rather than the height of columns. It would be nice to see a video addressing this.
My original reply was born out of frustration after hours of scouring the internet for advice on plotting histograms in Excel, SigmaPlot, Prism etc. only to find that all the videos and websites that claimed to have solved the issue could only do it for equal bin widths. I have data which is only available as grouped data with unequal bin widths and apparently the simple operation of plotting a frequency density histogram is beyond any stats software that doesn't require me to learn to program!
Frequency histograms have equal bin widths and plot the raw number of occurrences in each bin. Frequency density histograms have unequal bin widths and plot occurrences normalised to the bin width. A piece of software which can really create histograms should be able to do both. With equal bin widths the only practical difference between a histogram and a bar chart is the use of numerical and non-numerical bins respectively. In other words the difference is really only a matter of semantics.

Duh? A histogram is simply a bar chart of continuous data classified into non-overlapping intervals of a frequency distribution. You are a pretentious monster what the hell is wrong with you!
