This was shot with the Canon 1dxII in 4k and a Canon 24-105mm f/4 version I (the vII is too big and heavy for the Ronin-S IMO) - The Sony a7III has some nice native lenses and great video autofocus. But any decent longer focal length lens and camera with good video autofocus would work.

Wow awesome man.. I am your New subscriber..
Awesome tip. Basically a moving jib shot :D
Right, that's the closest thing to describe it- a jib down with a gimbal style push in. -Matt
Who came from Parker's channel?
Did Parker recommend this video?
a year after i am here! lol :)
please more of this tutorials
Good
Great video and awesome move. Definitely going to try it. Can I please ask you how you attached your monitor to ronin? Looks like smallrig attachments? I'm especially interested in the part that let's you easily rotate the monitor? Cheers
You guys are rightly named, the Film Poets
Parker sent me here. Real thing!
Amazing shoot... Definitely need a gimbal
Gorgeous, i just have to buy a gimbal now
Did you use some sort of vertigo ken burns effect? Super cool shot!
Just this tutorial alone was so cinematic, beautiful and helpful! 🙌🏽 Unfortunately for me as I shoot Lumix cameras GH5 and S1 not the best auto focus.
One way around that is to just stop down a bit and then don't walk forward very far. You'll have a deeper DOF and still get the vertical parallax but with slightly less push in. Should work. Also, set your focus at the end point rather than the starting point so that the image gets sharper as you push forward. -Matt
The Film Poets yes! 🙌🏽 I totally get you! so that way I can walk into focus rather than out of focus. Stop down Aperture so I can have more of an in-focus range. Thank you so much!
also keep in mind that your GH5's depth of field is greater at f/4 than matt's 1dx at f/4. Also, I've seen some impressive S1 autofocus with the native 24-105. If you're adapting, it's not at all the same. As for the GH5, switch to single point AF and shrink the size of it. GH5's AF works better pushing in than pulling out for me for tracking, so experiment with that outside of a wedding first.
😱😱
Whoever married her is one lucky barsteward
as you walk towards yourbsubject you can zoom out or as you get distance from the subject you can zoom in. Thanks for sharing!
You're thinking of the Zolly shot or dolly zoom. That makes the background close in or move away from the subject, this is very different and doesn't require zooming. It moves the background vertically behind the subject and doesn't have that "the world is caving in on me" feel.
that fly though on her... just couldnt miss the epicness
That's the only fly I've wanted to track down and kill out of vengeance.
👌👌👌👌👌👌👌
Awesome camera movements and composition! Although the Resolve masking which brightens the subject looks overdone and ends up looking like a green screen.
Love this video! Quick question, how do you enable the external monitor and the touch screen on the 1dx at the same time?
Its in the menu under HDMI Oput. There are three presets with icons.
amazing work you doing , tell us what settings you using on canon 1dx mkii to get the best quality
I like to use the Marvels Cine profile for Canon cameras. It's the Neutral profile with a slight bump in the shadows. I think it's the sweet spot for 8-bit camera profiles.
Thanks for the tip man really helped. What grip wa at the bottom of you ronnin
It's a small rig handle screwed into a manfrotto quick release mount. The Manfrotto 577 I think.
These shots look awesome dude! Quick question...how do you get the 1DX's screen to keep displaying when HDMI is plugged in (so you can tap to focus etc)?
Good question. There is an HDMI output options menu. There are only three options. I can't remember which one is the correct, but you want both screens working with the information on the camera, not the HDMI output. Hope that helps you find the right setting. -Matt
Please do a tutorial on motors gimbal setting for Ronin s. Thanks!
ruclips.net/video/b3meiAcXW-0/видео.html
I'd love to know how you are tilting the camera. I see your hand on some kind of twisting bar? Great video!
James Coleman II I have a horizontal bar that I sometimes grab. It’s by small rig, you have to disassemble the original connector and screw in a 1/4-20 adapter. Then screw into the ronin-a chess plate.
Hi, lovely tutorial and the color grading is awesome. I recently got a ronin s, i'm wondering if i need to set the gimbal on a specific mode to get the Vertical Pivot
I use mode one and smooth everything out until I'm happy with the movement.
@@thefilmpoets Awesome thank you very much. Your videos are Lit and dope
Hey buddy, great tutorial!! How come you use the quick release system? Is it quicker to setup/balance when taking on and off the Ronin?
Also do you have any links to the handle grips you use please?
DJP Wanderlust Productions the quick release at the bottoms is so I can remove the extension handle quickly. It can also be mounted to a tripod head if needed.
Here’s how to do the handles -
Get this plate for the ronin-s, remove the focus ring and put this on. - amzn.to/2SIgL6g
You can add this to the bottom - amzn.to/2lOd8Nm
Get this handle, remove the screws in the back - amzn.to/2E5zWP6
Screw this into the handle and then screw the handle onto the plate that you added - amzn.to/2E7Zco3
Thank you! Did you use a warp stabilizer on that footage?
I use FCPX, so no warp, but I'm not sure if this one had a touch of post stabilization on it or not. Its not something you could heavily stabilize because of the movement. I use it often though. -Matt
I have a question Mr.Poet by the way good evening could this be done also with a drone with active tracking ? Fly forward but not close ? Thank you for such a great tip n camera movement technique..
Jose Soto I don’t think the focal length of a drone would be long enough. I’ve seen several people try this at 50mm and it’s not the same effect. 100mm is key and the vertical movement is important.
Do you think that the 1dx mii or ef lenses are wise investments with canon RF mount development looking forward?
If you need to shoot right now, then yes. Also the EF to R adapter is great, so a few lenses would still be usable on the RF mount.
How do you get both live view and the small hd to be work at the same time? When I connect my small hd to my 1dx mark II the live view shuts off and only the small hd works.
Hi bro what kind of u fix camera screen
Where you been man!? Haven't heard from you in a while! Missing your insights and art.
Hey! It's been our biggest year as a business so we've been super busy serving our couples. We're doing lots more RUclips for 2020 though. I just did a one hour podcast with How To Film Weddings - check it out at ruclips.net/video/FXy7pkEJpiI/видео.html
Also, we just launched our Audio Presets. They are the presets that we use to process the sound in all of our films. Check them out over at www.soundgrades.io
Hope to share more videos soon. -Matt
What’ are the settings on your ppi?
Are you running the footage through some post stabilization? Looks really really steady.
Houston Brown there is some slight post stabilization on one of the shots. Sometimes it needs a bit of help
