I flavor it as the stealth roll being how natural you act as the creature. High roll means the rat acts exactly as a normal rat would and the guard doesn't care because there's a million of them crawling around so why bother dealing with this one? Low roll means you weren't acting like a rat naturally would (maybe you seemed too oddly determined to get somewhere and too well-oriented for a wandering rat, for example) and the guard is now concerned that there's a shapeshifter standing before him (although in a low-magic setting, I may not have my players roll at all if there's no reason for the guard to be suspicious in the first place)

Ranger: 19-38 (Also +10 to party) Rogue: 23-33 Think I’d generally prefer rogue since I’m paranoid about resources and consistency is more valuable than beating a DC harder. But if you do have to sneak the entire team by something, hard to beat pass w/out trace
Still to this day my favorite barbarian sneaking, is the barbarian who sneaks with intimidation. "YOU NO SEE ME! okay." "Yeah nope we don't see a thing. Infact we are blind" 😂
@@trapicalnot objectively, a lot depends on how DM runs wizards. Low money, few/almost no scrolls, messing up with the spellbook, actually enforcing spell components, etc are all normal and RAW ways to run a campaign and that depower wizards a lot. But in lots of games it seems that people just make homerules that make wizards even more powerful (such as giving subtle spell for free, letting switch prepared spells at any point rather than only at end of long rest, etc). Aberrant mind sorc and clockwork soul are great.
I like to point out of barbarians unarmored defense is powered by both Constitution and dexterity so in theory a barbarian should actually be good at sneaking
But it's their third most important stat after con and str. Just like it is for wizards, sorcerers, warlocks... a lot of classes. They don't have armor disadvantage which helps a bit but realistically the wizard isn't any less sneaky than the barb. Sneakiest is druid though. Good luck spotting a spider concentrating on Pass Without Trace
The monk one is incorrect, they would move so fast they were a blur because they took the "if I move fast enough they won't be able to see me" approach

Wizard trying to make use of their spells only to fail the first stealth check Artificers spending hours getting the materials to craft a potion only to have it wasted in the 1st session after it is crafted. Fighters following the logic of “if there are no witnesses, you were not spotted.”
Kobold sorcerer can get just about anywhere when the target is a cult of the dragon base. Kinda ticked off the DM that I was a better spy that the two rouges.
