After watching this video twice, there is no doubt Kemp is a much better dunker than Blake ever will be. A 6'10" guy that runs the floor like a gazelle, major hops but what stands out is his SWAG. Why anyone ever challenged him at the rim is beyond stupid. Best big man dunker ever - not even debatable.
Dominique was amazing and definitely better in dunk contests, bigger than Jordan in those contests but in game neither of them would want to be near the rim when Kemp went airborne. Shaq was huge and I'm pretty sure Shawn made him nervous, nobody wanted to be on that poster.
There's been a lot of good open court dunkers in the years and a few good ones in traffic. But Kemp dunked on and all over Mutombo, Ewing, Mourning, Rodman, Robinson, Duncan, Oakley, Barkley, Lister, Mahorn, Buck Johnson, Pippen... even made some of the best just move out of the way. I'd love to see today's dunkers battle those guys on a nightly basis. That era was all about physicality and team defense with better individual defensive players.
Lars Öquist I concur. I was more of a basketball kid growing up but its lost a lot of its muster by being too soft. I love football now but its on the way out too. MMA it is then lol
If you wanna know what sets The Reigman's dunks apart, just look at at the energy with which the ball goes through the net. And the other thing that's unique to Kemp's slams is the SWAG! Kemp's dunks are fearsome, cool and funny at the same time! Love The Reign Man!
Exactly! The reason I'm here is because after watching LeBron just dunk and slap the backboard I thought about how viciously KEMP would dunk in the 90s
I really miss an NBA team in Seattle. I loved the Supersonics. I loved the colors, I loved the name, I loved the players...I love that city. Bring a team back to Seattle....ASAP!!!!
Shawn Kemp was more skilled than Blake Griffin. Not just with his highlight dunks but he was an excellent finisher through contact, good perimeter shooter through mid range and at times the 3pt line, can run the lane on the fastbreak, good post up player, very good help defender and can hit FTs as well.
Agreed. Much better ball handler than Griffin is. A true forward who could run the floor. A good mid range game but just like you said, he could finish. If he got the ball at the 3pt line, he could drive through contact and dunk...Blake still can't do that as he looks a little clumsy trying to handle the ball. Kemp also went AFTER centers....his goal was to dunk over you. his crazy athletic body movement in the air CHANGED the game....no one had seen that athleticism and freakish body control before. He could jump, then REACH and throw it down from wherever he wanted. Insane.
Awesome! Weird how quickly we forget, he was so smooth going to the basket at that size, so quick and explosive. I was a Dominique fan, I remember his hops started diminishing in the 90's, Almost like he passed the torch, and Kemp ran with it, cradled it, cocked it back, and destroyed the rim with it.
Kemp was so awesome! If he'd had just stayed clean and continued to work hard on and off the court, he would have been in the HOF easy. Those were good days.
He's the dunker (along with Carter) who "dunked on" guys are in awe with, like Charles Barkley, Dennis Rodman, etc. They actually get jollies being dunked on and posterized by this freak athlete.
His dunks are so vicously devastating !! He has hang time for days and he can fly to the cup. He said his aim is to dunk on people. The end all be all of dunkers.
I mean he was dunking on real centers and burly power forwards...He posterized Mutombo, Morning, Ewing, Akeem.....unlike these pasty ass 3 point shooting centers and big men in the Blake Griffin Age....
your-sisters-lover Kemp had a hell of a finals series in 96. He was arguably the best player during that series. Jordan won the MVP because the Bulls won, but Kemp had the better overall series.
7:48 my favorite shawn kemp play ever. As a die hard fan of kemp in the 90s, i think that this play sums up perfectly the player he was. The speed the handle the power and the ferocity. Straight to the ring. My n°2 the dunk on Antoine Carr at 8:35 n°3 the coast to coast tomahawk against the Lakers 9:47
That pixel sure can dunk. But in all honesty, I love the vintage videos. It definitely shows nostalgia and how great the game was back then. Excellent video
6:55 turnt 90s announcers "Instant Replay...Aye Yi Yiiii" 😂 then my favorite celebration comes up when he leans back with his hands up 😂 great Transition, great video, classic player, Shawn Kemp, yeah he an all star (PRIMM HOOD VIDS)
I remember watching an interview with alonzo mourning when he was asked who he feared to defend, he said " i dont fear anyone but shawn had a reputation of making dudes look bad on the drive"
Highly satisfying. Sonics fan since the early 70’s. Was anchoring sports in Yakima (KIMA-TV) when Kemp broke in. Vividly recall anchoring sports and describing the moment a rookie Kemp dunk sent teammate Steve Johnson back-peddling and reeling in wonderment (these were still the “high shorts” days). Seattle Times published an excellent article way back in the day; included lore that a very young Kemp on an Indiana playground leapt over a VW bug and dunked so hard that sparks flickered from the chained net. In Kemp’s second NBA year or so, I stood in line for an autograph at Everett Pacific Hotel. He had yet to fully arrive / develop. He seemed so quiet, and new to the limelight in this far corner of the contiguous 48. A lot of great things followed, of course. Yet, it always seemed a bit to me that Kemp was never fully appreciated / accepted for his unique talents…almost as if he’d been invited to the party (NBA) through the back door (perhaps due to having transferred from Kentucky to Trinity Valley CC). Kemp played excellently in the finals vs. the Bulls. True difference maker in that series was Rodman. No doubt in my mind. Back to the present, though. This video is an excellent compilation of Kemp’s dunks. The energy. The finesse. The dexterity, even ball handling for a man his size. It was truly a magical moment in time for Sonics fans. And The Glove was a bit like Robin to Kemp’s Batman. Wonderful compliment of special players, too. Yes, a special era, for sure.
Just Amazing !!! At that time KEMP was my favourite Dunker with Wilkins & Jordan... After came Vince Carter who's the Ultimate Dunker... But WOW! How many times did KEMP posterize Mutombo? It's just UNBELIEVABLE !!!
Wow this just took me back to my late teens...he was a dam best. Played defence as well..could run the fast break...what a dam nasty combo payton and kemp..miss these days.i love basketball..and hate to say it garbage now days..90s -early 2000s last era of real basketball..
The Reverse at 10:20 where he weaves around the Knicks player is still the prettiest in game dunk I've ever seen. Carter can windmill all day, but Kemp would throw it down in HEAVY traffic to the point where you had to ask yourself: "Did that guy REALLY just fucking do that?!"
9:50 my fav Reign Man dunk, I've never seen that before in my life a coast to coast tomahawk jam. Nothing completes a Kemp dunk better than Calabro going nuts. Also thx to GP for throwing all those lobs.
Shawn Kemp the best dunker in game of all time!
sorry but Vince has that title
Dkouts57 Maybe. But I think Kemp was the first to be fearless driving and posterizing.
Dkouts57 Shawn had more charisma
Shawn had more POW! to his dunk!
Yes sir!!!
He had the most swag of any athlete, after each dunk he did a different pose
He’s probably one of the first players to showboat after dunks I think or even first ever
Yeah he is 1 of the best I have to give it to Dominique Wilkins
Dominique was amazing and definitely better in dunk contests, bigger than Jordan in those contests but in game neither of them would want to be near the rim when Kemp went airborne. Shaq was huge and I'm pretty sure Shawn made him nervous, nobody wanted to be on that poster.
His vert was also higher than Blakes
Best in game dunker of all time hands down. Power and finesse.
He won a Dunk Contest as well!!
I almost cried from all the memories!!Thank u Shawn, the best dunker of all time, period!!
Shawn Kemp, the most explosive dunker i have ever seen play the game. Still haven seen another one like him..
Vince carter???

@@ghhtfffguuhgyuyfdfhhjhdse4732 Carter didn’t dunk on people like Kemp and came off alley oops like that either.
Few things are as explosive as Kevin Calabro calling Shawn Kemp tomahawk dunks! I miss my Seattle Super Sonics!!!!!!!!!
why does it called Tomahawk?
There's been a lot of good open court dunkers in the years and a few good ones in traffic. Indeed. Well said my friend.
Lars Öquist I concur. I was more of a basketball kid growing up but its lost a lot of its muster by being too soft. I love football now but its on the way out too. MMA it is then lol
Today, you don't even have to touch the rim to have it considered a dunk.
+StanManSteve I love MMA. Haven't missed a major card in a while. I really miss the old NBA.
You forgot Olajuwon
My favorite power forward of all time. Very athletic at 6'10" and had a 17 foot baseline jumper too.
Fantastic compilation. This is why I think he's a top 5 dunker of all time.
If you wanna know what sets The Reigman's dunks apart, just look at at the energy with which the ball goes through the net. And the other thing that's unique to Kemp's slams is the SWAG! Kemp's dunks are fearsome, cool and funny at the same time! Love The Reign Man!
Today's soft NBA would not allow Kemp to showboat and taunt. I miss the old NBA.
Exactly! The reason I'm here is because after watching LeBron just dunk and slap the backboard I thought about how viciously KEMP would dunk in the 90s
There wasn't anyone else in the league who could dunk on Mutombo as often as Kemp did, this dude was as nasty as they come when it comes to dunkers.
people forget that Kemp was also a great jump shooter! his dunks were amazing, but I feel they overshadow the rest of his game!
Kemp really brought out the best in Calabro. I haven't heard him ever get as excited as he did when Kemp would do an amazing dunk.
That's why I really miss 90's basketball.
Shawn Kemp-still the best ever for me!
Kemp was pure nastiness. The power and finesse were intense.
Before Blake Griffin, Vince Carter, Gerald Green and Lebron James, There was Shawn Motherfucking Kemp, "The Reign Man" Let it be known...
Before S.K. was Darryl Dawkins (Chocolate Thunder)
he liked to punish that ring.... that's what i call dunk with AUTHORITY... Real NBA ..miss ol' good days
My all time fav player
Webster's Dictionary:
slam dunk - Shawn Kemp
Kemp didn't just dunk, he did people dirtttyyyyyy...... I miss Kemp.
I doubt anyone in the history of the NBA has enjoyed dunking the ball more than Shawn Kemp.
Great work, awesome video. Thanks!
you can fly high, you can dunk off the paint, but you CAN'T dunk like The Reign Man. Shawn Kemp, AMAZING!
"Slammin', jammin', ragin', thrashin'". Gotta love that commentator!
That brought back the good ole days of basketball; where you go hard, or go home!
Wicked mix
cheers
when you dunk on 4 of the all time centers the name reign man is well deserved!

Shawn Kemp's in-traffic dunks were simply phenomenal!!!! Wow!
The way Kemp hanged on the rim and the way he expressed himself after the dunks makes the dunks even better
Nobody ever had more style than this dude.
Only one who you can maybe compare is Deion from NFL.
But NBA? this dude had SWAG untouchable.
Gotta love how Payton just throws it up within roughly the same time zone as Kemp, knowing the Reign Man will find it and bring it down
We were lucky to have Kevin Collabro making the calls, too.
Awesome! Weird how quickly we forget, he was so smooth going to the basket at that size, so quick and explosive. This is straight beastin, god i miss the nineties. Thanks for this vid you made my day. Best posterizer ever.
Greatest in game dunker of all time. I watched the reverse slam against the knicks live and 30 years later it's still incredible. Blake who?
This was when BB was the real deal. I can watch this vid for eternity 💪🏼🔥🔥🔥
Probably the best dunker ever. Every dunk was just graceful and looked so good.
Besides the Human Highlight Film the Reign Man was the ultimate dunker in a game.
Yeah nique was special but i dont think even he was as feared in the air as the reignman
There will never be another one of those two to ever exist! Monstrous powerful and explosive. Man I miss the old school nba!!!
Kemp was so awesome! If he'd had just stayed clean and continued to work hard on and off the court, he would have been in the HOF easy.
Those were good days.
Shawn Kemp was the most artistic dunker, it was he who made the dunks not only powerful, but also spectacular
I've already watched this five times. I may have a problem.
u perfectly sane, my friend.
+Ryan Van Dusen Perfectly normal bud perfectly normal!
The Reign man!

I agree with you. Dominique Wilkins was another powerful dunker!
