    Generally I turn on the compressor first with all the valves off and closed, get it full. Then you can quickly use what pressure you need in the pot when you need it instead of waiting slowly for the compressor to get to the right psi. Especially with faster resin you need to fill that pot fast. But have the pot valve closed and slowly open it, otherwise the air will shoot in and splash the resin inside everywhere. You got this! When it comes to mold making, even if you’re an expert or been doing it for 20 years like I have, every project is its own unique set of problems, and rarely works right the first time.

      I often work with resins that only have a 3 min potlife so I know exactly what you mean 😂. My air compressor is the same capacity as my pressure pot more or less (yeah, yeah I know) so I get my air compressor going before I even mix the resin.

    • @PlasticGeek
      @PlasticGeek Месяц назад

      @@outpost206 yup, my compressor gets up to 100psi, then I fill to pot to 40-60. I can usually get about 2 fills out of that one run. Looking at Theo’s setup again I don’t think he’s closing off the compressors output so all that pressure is also sitting on the hose.

    HERE WE GO!!!!!
    Mannn, you're working towards FULL-FLEDGED! This is legit.
    I think PlasticGeek covered it in his advice but yeah, one tip is to have your compressor "charged" and, using the manual valve and a gentle hand, let the compressed air from the tank go into the pressure pot, which will be a LOT quicker than letting the compressor build up the pressure. These days, I rarely go over 40psi and still get clear results. :)

    Tiranti is where I used to buy my resin supplies when I making sculpture in uni. You can get 5kg multi purpose resin for about £60, with the hardener you mix 2% and that's about £5 for 50g. Plus vat you're looking at about £100 with delivery. It's good to experiment with, only good for solid colour casts. BTW those pigment will last forever, you literally need a tiny amount to get a solid colour. You can also get powders to add in that glow in the dark.
    Silicon had a limit on how many good clean casts you can get out of them, at some point you will have to make new moulds if you plan to make loads and load of figures. You notice once the casts start coming out with less detail or misaligned. And always have a dump mould on the side for any left over resin. But keep all silicon you use, any off cuts or old moulds can be cut up and used to bulk out new moulds so you're using less silicon. Or to make keys.
    Would def get a mask and the proper filters, resins toxic and you gota look after your health. Eventually an extractor hood (like the ones in science labs) would eliminate the need for a mask.

    Always love your vids and the tunes, I've cast resins for a while, can I offer some advice..... I would purchase a set of scale (for jewellery) and weigh the resin 1. you'll get your amounts bang on for maximum results & you'll waste less as when I'd repeat a cast, I just referred to my notes and only mixed what I needed
    2. always be careful adding pigment, not saying this will happen, but I've had issues with it inhibiting the resin as it can throw of the ratios , even when using it sparingly .
    3.Not sure if you've got heating in your studio, but ambient temperature can make a difference with curing times, hotter=faster , colder=slower .

I was just kinda doing nothing constructive until like you did in this vid, say “bugger it, I think I just gotta do this”.. bam 💥 it was easy an working with gouache was even better than I had hoped.. I see so much of me in you.. ha. That desire to have ALL your ducks in a row before starting. Chasing perfection before even starting. Especially after studying what to do from every maker over years worth of videos, books blah blah.. inspiration finds you working ;)

    I might try to grab one of the prototypes you make.
    I wonder if it might be making the videos a part 1 and part 2 to keep the content up weekly.

    I like that you've put some focus on being new to it all and how normal it is to be a bit overwhelmed. There is too much polished content out there, editing out the gore. It's all a part of the process and is important to show, IMO. Keep it up, fingers crossed for you.

    It's probably been said already but, the resin you are using is 1-1 ratio by weight and not volume like you was doing it.
