I agree - thought he was the stand-out in preview videos too... he's really doing his very best for what is ultimately a not-that-good 'game' - It should have been a VR headset (like Luke uses on the Falcon) where a floating training drone moves around you
I did the savvi workshop lightsaber thing in DisneyWorld, the experience was worth the money the cast members were so good in how they did the whole event
I went to galaxies edge a couple of times last year. I was thinking on doing savis. Instead I went to dok ondars and got a legacy saber. Sounds like a fun time. I agree, the cast members are so very good.
In the age of VR, this really doesn’t seem like a premium experience. I can buy a 300 dollar VR headset and literally battle Darth Vader for a fraction of the price.
I got to face darth Vader at Disney springs in 2019 for like 30 dollars using VR. I value physically going places over doing things stuck in my home even before COVID
The problem is VR doesn’t make for good social media content. You look like a moron in the headset using the controllers and stuff despite having a ton of fun. Disney has to have guests posing for Instagram pictures and videos with this lightsaber training. It was a problem The Void’s Star Wars VR had too.
Kind of agreed with @Spessforce1701 because it's hard to film that, unless the experience videos it for you and gives it to you on a link or a USB stick. Definitely agree with @VirtualEuphoria though. I had way more fun than this at The VOID on Disney Springs with my friends. That was absolutely worth the price. Come to think of it, for what you're paying to be on this Starcruiser, why ISN'T there a VR thing going on here? Missed opportunity.
Cast member is awesome as usual. They’re the ones that make everything about Disney great. As far as the tech and experience….. it leaves a lot to be desired for the price tag.
Personally, I think they deserve a lot more recognition. I hate to say it but we need someone like Eisner but not exactly like Eisner. Cause during the Eisner era it felt like the cast members were treated properly. At least that's what I remember. Why not get Eisner out of retirement frell it why not? It's not like they won't make money regardless.
I remember when Episode 1 came out, they sold a Darth Maul spy droid and a small green lightsaber. The droid shot out foam discs that you had the deflect with the lightsaber. I wish I still had mine, would be a cooler experience and a lot cheaper.
You don't even get the halcyon light saber even paying that exorbitant price. Thank you Tom for filming yhis experience. This is the closest I'll get to this unless paycheck lowers these ridiculous prices.
I feel like this would have been really neat if it was some sort of Simon type thing. You go a few rounds with the "tracer beam" learning a pattern that gets longer and longer, and then it has you doing it from memory and scoring how well you did it "by the Force".
I think they focused more on making guests strike poses for easy social media content than delivering an engaging lightsaber experience. The old Padawan training show with audience participation in front of the Star Tours ride was more engaging than this.
Would’ve been awesome if the force was vibrations on the floor for left bottom and right bottom and the a subtle burst of air for top right and top left. The lights seem so… basic?
Thank you...hope you had fun... Lightsaber doesn't seem very reactive.. people had it in the beem sometime for 5-10 seconds in the beginning before it registered a hit, untill it pick up speed...the shields seem more reactive.. look very cool though, did you get to handle the lightsaber or mostly the shield only... thank you.. love ya pal
Mixed feeling about vloggers - On one hand they kill the immersiveness of the experience, but on the other hand they give us a unique opportunity to see this experience that I'd never be able to see otherwise.
@@thestarkknightreturns - I watched through WDWNT's videos on the Starcruiser. - Interesting but not really my personal cup of tea. Each added guest dilutes the immersiveness of the experience. When Harry Potter opened at Universal it was a similar thing although that environment is so well done you still feel like you're in Diagon Alley / Hogsmeade. When you factor in the cost of the Starcruiser experience, it seems even less of a value. Maybe I'm wrong.
You know it's interesting because the Halcyon is supposed to be in canon with the Sequel Trilogy. And seeing as how there's no Jedi left at this point in time besides Rey, the canon basically states the Halycon has very cheap and monetized "lightsaber training" as one of the ship activities. Good way to mask how bad it is.
If you want a great LARP experience where you can learn how to sword fight, I strongly recommend looking into the SCA. I've made so many friends through there too, it's great and it doesn't break your wallet
Yes, and only for the exact moment she ignites it. (Using some theatrical sleight-of-hand, the performer quickly switches it out for one that can withstand hits.)
They should have done something closer to what Dave & Busters has for their Star Wars Lightsaber game. If they improved upon that and made it better that would have been soooo much more immersive
As a Jedi costumer I'm so saddened at the opportunity they wasted to create something magical and instead went this direction. This has no Jedi feeling or atmosphere to it whatsoever. We could have had a hotel on Batuu with two temples, a Sith and a Jedi and you could have trained in either with force ghost holograms of Yoda or Palpatine. The planet is supposed to hold Jedi and Sith relics already so it would have fit perfectly. Could have sold different package levels but yet still had a big Batuu themed hotel between the temples that had many levels of pricing. Plus an exceptional restaurant EVERYONE could dine at. I can see it all in my mind, gotta draw it now.....
I’d take just the light saber training. If we did that, plus a Savi’s Workshop session and lunch, $600 price tag for the whole package would be excellent. But I’m not ponying up $6000 for a light saber lesson.
SOOOooooo What Happened to that Awesome *Realistic* Igniting saber from the one video they put out a wile ago....!?!? $6000 and we don't even get to use the igniting saber!?!?.... for reals!?
I'm gonna be honest And I know that I have not done this in person Yet or if I will But I'm kind of disappointed in The light saber Training To say the least Every one of those things on the wall could be spread out a little more have a bit of a bigger area And I would imagine the technology of RFID tracking Would work if you put an RFID ship inside a New lightsaber blade that could cost a lil bit more and would be the standard blade when you build a saber at savis workshop so then the system will aim for the rfid chip and will always hit the blade no matter how you are holding it and you wont need the beam of light showing where it is gonna be coming from but idk im no imagineer it just seems like a waste because people wanna use a light saber not a shield especially on a vacation that you paid at least 3.5k on then you dont get to use the saber and also one more thing we need a qui gon legacy hilt
I think that this would have been better if they incldued force feedback vests for the guests to wear while doing this. Every time you miss a laser, the vest lights up and/or buzzes to let you know that you missed. Another thing would be to give you stunt sabers and fencing gear and teach guest how to spar with lightsabers. Give them some quikc lessons then let them have a got at each other or against an instructro whoe will allow them to win while still giving them a bit of a challenge.
That moment when you realize the “back to center” command is because those shield people would just hold their shields in the one spot they’re able to block the whole time and realize how terrible that job is 😂
WDW News, thank you very much for sharing your series of adventures on the SWGS. I must say that, of all the activities you have shared, lightsaber training is still a let down (in my opinion) 🤷🏽♂️
So you get a fancy flashlight which you lift to meet the beam from a wall mounted flashlight. I am sorry, this is the lamest thing $4,800 can buy. You can buy home game systems for a lot less and with a lot more impact.
Whenever they exhaust all that they can get from customers willing to pay at the large price tag, they can begin to offer pieces of the entertainment at a lower rate. In this Lightsaber Training, they would remove the actual actors and use videos.
Ah. Gym class memories. Rotate! I think you should get a shock if you don't block it. Make it more realistic. Tech is meh. Should be a longer blade on that lightsaber. CM is the true star of the show.
Lazer Tag maze is much more exciting, fun and cheaper. The people behind holding a disk/shield is a joke. Just a way for Disney to cram more people into this terrible experience.
Imagineers can do better than this. we all know it, someone just didn't want to give them to time and needed to get as much cash out of the blinded star wars whales as possible. I'm one movie or show away from being done with star wars. Mando is the only good thing right now, minus baby Yoda.
Jesus this has to be the most boring thing I’ve ever seen, I’m 54 and been a lifelong gamer. Looks more like a cheap Tron rip off. There is nothing Star Wars bout this apart from the word light sabre!
1:46 nice laugh 😂. Also yall must be salty whoever stayed here for this sad pathetic experience. Makes me warm inside knowing people wasted hella money on garbage experience
Can a vlogging camera block a laser blast?
A+ for that cast member - he’s absolutely amazing.

Agreed! Think he's fantastic 👏🏻
Cast member is great. Tech, not so much.
I think the tech is lame, but the cast members are the ones that really do the work and make things exciting.

You paid 6$ thousand dollars to stick a lightsaber at a laser light 😂. Great job Disney!
This is pretty high-tech....if it was still 1985.

THE CAST MEMBERS DID GREAT!
Cast members are ALWAYS the reason that things work at all.
I remember when Episode 1 came out, they sold a Darth Maul spy droid and a small green lightsaber. The droid shot out foam discs that you had the deflect with the lightsaber. I wish I still had mine, would be a cooler experience and a lot cheaper.
After Lightsaber training you can head over to the Galactic ball pit or the Starcruiser trampolines! This is horrible!
Now hold on… that would mean the real fun begins after Lightsaber training.
no criticism of the cast members - but "disappointing" doesn't begin to describe this.
You don't even get the halcyon light saber even paying that exorbitant price.
Thank you Tom for filming yhis experience. This is the closest I'll get to this unless paycheck lowers these ridiculous prices.

Lightsaber training on a Luxury Star Cruiser makes as much sense as Samuri Sword training would on a Cruise ship.
That’s the most exercise Tom’s gotten in years.
I think they focused more on making guests strike poses for easy social media content than delivering an engaging lightsaber experience. The old Padawan training show with audience participation in front of the Star Tours ride was more engaging than this.
Excellent job from the Disney cast member. He killed it out there.

YES. This is a clever and great idea.

Nice clear view of the experience, thanks Tom!
I never thought lightsaber fighting could look so boring and unimaginative… :/
Is there a story reason for the Halcyon providing (guests/passengers) with lightsaber training?

Yes, and only for the exact moment she ignites it. (Using some theatrical sleight-of-hand, the performer quickly switches it out for one that can withstand hits.)
@@billyz90 that sucks :( those lightsabers would be great instead of manually taking the blade in and out from what Disney as well as Hasbro sells
I like all of the glitz and glitter but $5,000.00 for 2 nights? Sorry, that’s just highway robbery.
Can we stop making excuses for what this is….garbage for 5k for this? Like come on this technology is like 10 years old at least
The should've been a VR activity, not this simple light thing. Cast member really did his best to salvage this.
They should have done something closer to what Dave & Busters has for their Star Wars Lightsaber game. If they improved upon that and made it better that would have been soooo much more immersive
Poor cast members get $18 an hour to try and be excited about a lame flashlight through smoke - not even 1980s laser tag tech.
The laser tag by me was AMAZING...and yeah you are right. Cast Members aren't paid enough.
How much should they get paid? Starting salary at law firms is less than that for a paralegal.
