$10 Mods - Euro Rear Fog Light Install

Hey guys, another $10 install video for you. EURO REAR FOGS. Very simple. Long video but most of it is walking you through EVERYTHING. Only took me 20 minutes and $10 for 2 new amber bulbs. ENJOY!!
You'll need:
Drill
1/8'' Drill bit
Wire
Soldering Iron/ Solder
Amber bulbs (1156a)
Wire Strippers
This isn't Euro fogs at all, its just adding two amber colored running lights. A rear euro fog light is a single, driver side red bulb only used in dense fog. Pretty sure amber colored rear running lights are illegal in every state and will likely cause you to be pulled over constantly.
Actually i don't know of a single state that has a problem with rear ambers
Rear amber turn signals and hazards are perfectly normal, yes. But running lights (aka tail lights) MUST be red.
Matthew Frysinger thats not true, it depends on the make and model. Fog lights are red lights that are brighter than thr driving light, you use it when its fog, on my car there are on both sides
You are correct, some makes/models do have rear fogs on both sides. I have only previously seen rear fogs on one side (in which case must be on the driver side) so I assumed incorrectly. Rear amber running lights (aka tail lights, position lights, etc) are still illegal worldwide.
I personally like what you had before which was the dual blinker setup although they (technically) should both be amber to avoid problems. I saw the wiring before you changed it so this video still helped thanks :)

Not sure it’s legal to have amber lights on all the time. Other than for turn signals though. I think the mod work is good but the purpose of the mod might make my car look like I have a crossed wire...oh wait! I would! Ha

Rear fog lights here in Europe are not amber at all? They are always red 25W bulbs which are found either on the drivers side or both sides
I don't know if anyone mentioned this before, but in Europe the rear fog light is supposed to be red, and has the same brightness as your braking light would have.
Usually what most manufacturers will do, is that you will have a reversing light on the passenger side, and a rear fog light instead of a reversing light on the driver's side.
You are only supposed to turn on your rear fog lights when you can't see further than 50 meters, or 165 feet. Europe is very strict about colours of your rear lights, your blinker cannot be any other color but amber or yellow, your rear lights can't be another color but red. So no amber rear fog lights in Europe.
If you would mess around with your lights, like you did in the video, the cops would pull over your car immediately and you wouldn't be allowed to drive it anymore until you changed the lights to their original state and got your okay by a car inspector, usually an engineer. It's kinda funny you can do whatever you want in America.

Do it the right way. Get a rear fog light kit with a euro switch. Not hard to install....
I live in Europe and I drive a Volkswagen bora (in USA they are called a Jetta ) and if my lights looked like that I would be looking them fixed I call that mod a fail

The concept it's great, but no need to drill anything. Just to make a jump-wire on the back of the assembly where different connector spots are free to use. You just need a tester for it. I repurpose that fog light to be a reverse light and when I hit the reverse....WOW!
But I like your approach, just don't overcomplicate yourself 😊
Super informative bra. One suggestion would be that you might want to edit the part where you show where to drill the hole at first. I did the OEM factory switch on my civic and its pretty slick

A rear fog light is always red, there is almost always only one light on the driver's side, and in Europe, driving with it on without foggy or rainy conditions is illegal and makes the driver look like an idiot.

Audinos especially the ones from 2000 to 2008, they have on one side, but nowadays, "eg: new kombi's(estates) has horizontal lights, so they have on both sides
Audinos there are cars that have them on both sides, like my vw sharan, but as you said, if you are driving with fog lights when there is no fog or heavy rain pepple will say you are dumb and need to to an eye doctor because you see fog whene the weather is clear and this is why you use foglights when the weather is clear

That's a sweet Jetta, but what's the point of covering your license plate in the middle of the video when everyone already saw it in the beginning and at the end.
This Jetta is eerily similar to my 24v. Same color, same exact wheels and my rear fogs are hooked up too. Small world, maybe? 👀

i have seen so many european cars here in america that look like they have gone in to get serviced and somehow the mechanics mess up the rear fog light wiring. they are on when they are not supposed to be and it is annoying to have to look at them especially at night without any fog/rain.

I'm sure you tapped into the parking light, not the brake light. And the bright bulb like the one you added in the rear fog light spot will most likely melt the inside part of the lens.

Rear fog lights are supposed to be red not amber. (LHD rear fogs-left side is on, RHD rear fog-right side is on)

is this a mk4 mod only? mkv have different tail lights ..
you should have just bought the kit from ecs tuning that is actually the rear fog light. in Europe this light should only be on the driver side and not as an extra brake light.

where did you get all you LED bulbs from???
I am guessing you have never put a drill bit through your finger or hand. It doesnt feel good, corded or cordless.
How do you like those LED bulbs? I'm thinking of trying those first before making a custom taillight.

Couldn't you wire it to the top light since that light doesn't brighten when the brakes are pressed? And since I have a euro switch, this would still need to be wired for power on the "christmas tree" right?

Hey man, any suggestions on removing rattle in a Mk4 Jetta? I threw two 12's in mine, but I get SO much rattle from the trunk and sunroof, any ideas?

1. face the sub towards you. may not look as cool but when facing the other way the the sound waves are hitting the weakest part of the trunk, witch causes rattling, plus you making the subs work harder your having to put it louder just to hear it. (do your other speakers face the opposite direction of you? nor should your subs)
2. buy some sound deadening spray
+FreshDoughBoi28 the louder part is actually false in most cases. With trunk builds it's better to face the sub and port towards the trunk, unless you're doing a trunk wall and sealing your box off. You will most likely lose dB facing the port into the cabin.
that is very wrong installed, you must wire from the euroswitch lights in the dash of the car

In Germany most bmw, vw and audi have this which are called rear fog lights.
Audis have them you'd think vw would too.

This is officially the worst mod I have seen. Making something euro, on a euro car, bit it isn't euro and doesn't function anywhere near euro.
Go to your local VW dealer, ask them to put your car back to stock and leave it alone. And for the love of God stop videoing your fails.
A failure on every level. No clue what a rear fog light is, how it works, how to solder... Get yourself a good car and stay away from mods.
The rear fog light as used in Europe (and some European cars in the US) brightens your running tail light with that extra bulb "Muscleammo" is depicting in this video, the light is activated by using a Euro headlight switch (which is different than the headlight switch used in the US cars). The purpose of the "rear fog light" is to make you more visible to the cars following you in poor weather conditions. Ciao, L
