To me it's actually a really important song. It feels like it helps me differentiate between the different aspect of "hate" - when it's good and useful and when it is hurtful, unproductive and should be reconsidered and find a more mature respons. In a way it's like a celebration of the pure emotion anger, and why anger is an important emotion to have. I grew up in a home where anger didn't really get to have a place, because my mother had grown up in a household with a lot of yelling and unproductive, hurtful anger. Therefore I didn't really learn when and how to feel anger and why it is so important. I'm in my thirtees and I've only just recently allowed myself to feel the emotion, and I feel a lot more balanced for it. Still 'exercising' and learning when and how, but I'm paying attention to it and feel a lot more whole. Yes, trolls and 'haters' is such an unproductive, hurtful and unkind way of expression frustration or just wanting a respons ... I like their way of emphasizing how anger when used properly can make movement and bring about change in this world.

The thing about j-hope is that his background as a hip-hop dancer really informs his rap, and it's what makes him so appealing and so distinct. RM and Suga approach rap from a more "cerebral" standpoint, having been rappers first and foremost, but with j-hope it's almost like he feels rap in a more instinctual way, that's why his flows are always so ear-catching and why he's so captivating on stage. Thank you for this reaction!

You're right. Jhope developed a unique way of rapping. He can be aggressive if needed, but most of the time it's more on the molidc side and it's amazing. I'm glad suga and rm practiced with jhope and let him make his own style.

Hobi is actually the scariest of them when he gets pissed and the one with the most ''street credits'' he was known as Smile Hoya and did underground dance battles and skipped school and studies for dance BTS pre debut was known as the Band with Jung Hoseok, while Namjoon was a number one student, the members always say angry Hobi ...it's something you don't want to experience. When the Song came out, during that time the Idol and Music Industry, but Korean youth in general, faced a lot of Suicide Cases because of online hate Hobi experienced that online hate to an extent that he wanted to take breaks, people made hate events for him. J Hope has a Solo Song called Piece of Peace where he sings about wanting to take Korean youth pain away because SK faced a new high about youth unemployment and mental health issues, highly recommend the Song to you.

I think this song has a lot of good interpretations depending on what you choose to focus on. I like RM’s insistence that anger is necessary, it can be a force for change and it is our history. But there’s also the reality of stupid massive hate that happens online for no reason at all, which is just wasted anger, misdirected and not useful to anyone at all. And in extreme cases, like you clearly felt, that misdirected anger has very tragic consequences.
I think the consequences they were referencing were more about the suicide of people who were targets of massive online hate, but obviously it can be applied to many other types of harm caused by this

You'll notice how J-Hope really has his own style and vibe to his rapping that relates to his background and personality as you listen to more. Personally, what I hear that his flows is more on melodic and tonal, like bends notes when he raps. He has this playful whiny sound in order to be sarcastic and sound like he is mocking. It seems like to point the fact that he is also a vocalist.

I think it's because there's lot of unwarranted anger directed at them (since the beginning) but I think this is the time they were rising to super stardom globally (I think this song was released 2020, and I believe their first daesang sweep where they got all 4 major awards at an award show was in 2019 ) so I can only imagine that those people criticizing them also blew up exponentially..
While I agree that money does make things easier because you can buy the things you need, and then some, it doesn't equate happiness..
With BTS being celebrities, it also comes with a certain price.. But they worked hard to get where they are, and BTS earning a lot of money doesn't give people the right to just make them take all the hate and insults directed at them..
Being a Yoongi bias (😂) I agree that he just has that punch when delivering raw emotions to his verses.. But I will also give credit to where it's due, I love J-Hope's verse and he has a different aura when performing live.
As for J-Hope's line, I take it that he acknowledges we have the right to be angry to whomever and whatever we want to hate on, but not at the expense of affecting other people to the extreme..
I recall a kinda similar line "Your right ends where the right of others begin"
A lot of people are "keyboard warriors" nowadays. Hiding behind the anonymity the online community provides and I think it's very unhealthy..
Anyway, I want to say more but my braincells are recuperating from the 9hr shift at work so I don't even know if my comment made sense.. 😂
As always, thanks for your reaction and I'm looking forward to the next one. I'm excited for Ddaeng and the Cyphers. 💜

J-hope’s rap dances, it is like an embodiment of his dance in music. Sorry, I’m not very good at expressing thoughts in words. But I feel the music in my body when he raps. I didn’t like rap until BTS. In part because of the typical culture of the rap scene, at least in the US, and partly because it typically bored me musically. That’s why I find it so bizarre that I found BTS through Agust D’s D2 and first started to love them through the rap line’s work. The message of this song was so spot on, and sadly only becomes more spot on as time goes on. It’s too bad that more people don’t hear and absorb this message and maybe change their behavior.

Great reaction! You are on point, but remember DKDTV has explanations for most of BTS's songs. They are mad at wasted anger, like keyboard tough guys, posting hate. It is a form of human waste, that hate/anger can be used for good. The perfect point, like what is going on in our country. This wasted anger will die out and not serve its purpose... We can collect that anger and DO SOMETHING about it! Instead, we have talking heads on TV and the internet. Wasted anger=human waste. This song is awesome! But check out the explanation video when you get a chance.

Hello Bryan it's me again reminding you to keep in mind where we are on the Map of the Soul album. (You see what I did there? 😊). This excellent song comes after a charged up "Bring the Pain On" motivational song. We've broken thru facing shadows, finding our motivations, and we are bound to confront challenges. It's a fork in the road. They are head-on addressing the perfectly human emotion of anger and differentiating the ways it can be used. In a way you could say anger that becomes positive change is a good motivator. J-hope's verse reminds us that there's another side, the receiving end. They've been receiving hate their entire career (causing their shadows) but they're human too. All the "keyboard warriors" and "cancel culture" and public shaming - they're loud but have nothing to show for it. That's wasted anger. We make our own decisions. So get in that boxing ring, fight for yourself, but not if it's detrimental to others. Because if it is, you should reflect on that. You said it Bryan - "it's not lash out and hurt somebody. It's make change happen." Enjoying your journey 💜

There’s a really cool analysis of the song done by the channel DKDK TV. If you end up reacting to ddeang you should definitely react to their explanation at the same time since there is a lot of Korean idioms in that song. For this song what I was taking it to be talking about and kind of what they explain as well in their explanation is this song is talking about people who will just tear others down and tear into them online just to be angry at something instead of using their anger in a more productive way to change the world. Their anger could have a use but instead they’re just wasting it. They’re just making human waste, turning it to sh*t, because they’re throwing it at people online and causing all this harm for nothing and that disgusts BTS. The second part of the song is sung in a mocking tone to represent those people talking.
Something else to take note of is the fact that this song came out during a time period where there was a lot of commentary about celebrity s*icides in Korea. S*icide is a really big problem there, I think it’s the number one country in the world that has problems with it. And a lot of celebrities would be bullied online and there have been quite a few who have taken their own lives. Yoongis song with IU, ‘Eight,’ is also about this and a rip to friends IU recently, but they have both, lost in the industry

Yes, I understand what you mean, it is very rough. It’s hard to not get angry when you see things like that happen, and it’s hard to not feel for them. That’s why I really agree that anger is power, it is the world’s history and will continue to be, it is a motivator to change the world. And it sucks that the value of anger has been suppressed and devalued because of all the stupid people lashing out for unnecessary things today. The “keyboard warriors” who uses anger as a vehicle for blind hate, to comment on someone’s looks or cancel out people who barely done anything wrong other than be themselves

    Fantastic track!
I agree with the song that we need anger in society to fight injustice (protest energy) & this song warns against people wasting this energy in trivial matters online like it's a game in some cases.
I think also BTS had friends who took their own lives who had been bullied online.
Ugh is an intense song with several aspects to it which really adds to it's appeal.
The live of this (performed in online concert without live audience during pandemic) is 🔥🔥🔥 srsly BTS songs always better live and that's saying something since studio version is fantastic. Their energy live is incredible. 🔥🔥🔥

I don't know how to explain it, but BTS has (except for one other artist) the only rap that I can stand to listen to (and actually enjoy 85% of it lol) Maybe because it's not lyrically or musically monotone, or maybe it's because I can relate to what they are saying, agree with the message they're trying to get across. There's just something about BTS and their rap. I actually shocked my kids because they caught me listening to these guys both as the rapline and their solo work lol. And Onomatopoeia (ah-no-mah-duh-payah or peyah) is a long word to say 'a word that sounds like the noise it makes...like sizzle, boing, click'. It always...ALWAYS...ended up being a word in my 8th grade mock spelling bees in English class that I could.not.spell...kept missing the 'o' at the end - hate that word now 🤣🤣🤣

first of all thank you for your reactions. I hope tomorrow I'll have some free time to check out your last reaction to rise of bantan too.
you asked what this song means for us. I wanted to share some thoughts on this (I'm a bit tired, so this comment isn't logical enough. anyway).
I'm in my mid-20th now, so I have some life experience on this point. I used to be really angry. not like a person that tends to hurt someone else (though I think there are some people that were hurt because of me), but like a person that is really angry about life itself. I have not too happy background and my family isn't rich. I had to leave my hometown because of war. That time I was 15 and it was tough to start life in another country like going to a new school, starting to prepare for another exam system and so on.
there were difficult times and I can definitely understand what it means to work for life.
now I can say that I'm doing pretty well. like I ended university, have a good job and the ability to develop my own team to create interesting projects. but all my life I had to protect myself and to be angry enough and selfish enough to get what I have now.
at some point you start to understand that anger is like a weapon that helps you to keep going but it starts to swallow you and you have to do something to break this circle. but it is really difficult to let yourself to be like vulnerable person and sometimes it seems to be easier just to stay angry as earlier.
there are many angry people everywhere. here (in the internet), I see them at work and I have to deal with it like all of us.
but I still hope there is a chance to change something and to create a better place. I don't think the whole world can change, but we can create safe places to ourselves. it is the only way to live I can think of.

The great thing about ARMY"S are that they love to provide subtitles for BTS videos. All you have to do is look for them. I never assume there are subtitles. I always check the video first, then I type in the song title and Eng sub for subtitles. Here is a link to the song with accurate subtitles. By the way, the ARMY i got this link from adds subtitles to a lot of BTS's videos, so you might want to keep her on your subcribed list. She's been posting BTS dance practices with subtitles also. Another good one is Bangtan Subs. There is also an explanation for terms on this video so you can decide if you want to watch that part. You can skip it at 2:00
    BTS UGH! live ON:E concert w/Engs subs - ruclips.net/video/6XfEDepFpAU/видео.html
J Hope was a street dancer, so I could see him doing the dance battles, and Jimin too. He could do street dancebattles, but maybe and Jimin also has experience with Taekwando (Blackbelt) and Kendo. So I have no doubt Jimin could defend himself. It reminds me of a scene in American Hustle life when Jimin was in a dance battle and it looked like he might go off. He can be intimidating. Here is a fun clip or two of our Jimin and J Hope in a dance battle. But it was mostly a performance. ruclips.net/video/9QgUIzrucqs/видео.html

One of the most meaningful songs and my favorite rapline song. This one is both deep and has a bunch of nuance to it about the role of hate in society, how much hate they receive and idols etc receive when we could be using anger to change the world. I absolutely adore that they make music like this, deeply meaningful and just an absolute hard banger. They were asked to name two favorite songs to share with Army and all the guys picked sweet meaningful nice songs… except Suga who picked Ugh and Cypher 3 “Killer” (very similar vibe to Ugh but not a big message just reading the haters to filth with anger) because he’s a damn mood and I love him for it. They have only performed it in recordings never live. If/when they do we will lose our damn minds but that On:E online performance is damn damn epic, there is behind the scenes footage of Tae and JK on the sidelines losing their damn minds and the epitome of Army. It’s going to be a challenging decade and we need to learn what’s important and how to build better communities and change things.

Too much hate on the internet was one of the reasons why my anxiety was a lot worse last year. Everytime I was on twitter, I used to read lots of comments of people hating on things they don't even know about, and that's so unfair. I decided to quit that social media and started to balance my free time online as well (even though it's harder for me, 'cause I work with social media lol).
We don't usually listen to songs about this subject, and that's why I love it. I only found out about 'ugh' on august of 2021, but I loved it SO MUCH that it was my most played track on spotify last year. Thanks for your reaction! One of my faves of your channel!
(you're gonna love 'ddaeng' as well, just saying)

This song is great, the message is so good, in a way simple, but nobody talks about it or try to, that anger is pure emotion, important one, that can make good in the world, but people use it in such meaningless way, it grows everywere and then only harm... Ahh soo good, I listen to it a lot, love it. They are so Cool, I remember watching this concert (it was online concert bc of pandemic) and waiting for this song ohhhh! It was so mindblowing when they come out, so much power and charisma. (this is second day of concert and Suga couldn't move his arm that day, it give up, it was so shooking that his arm was in so bad shape, we knew that his arm was bad all this years and he couldn't do some moves, but that day he couldn't move it at all in few first songs, then they give him some shots and he performent to end with all power, give it all ahh, they all give their all to us). Actually Ugh! was performed only 4 times, 3 online concerts and in Festa Live room there were like 1/3 of song. Ahh I would love see it live.
Hmm it is my top from this album bc of beat, music and delivery, rap, all is soo good, this, Shadow, Black Swan, Moon, My time are my favorite also Respect, Louder then bombs and We are bulletproof the eternal. This album is sooo good.

    Trigger warning - violent death
I've only gotten to the opening of the song, but I have something to say about their use of gunshot sounds. They just don't seem to have the same triggers (hah) we do because there isn't a shooting problem in Korea. I understand it's metaphorical and they are bulletproof and the finger gun is their trademark move... But sometimes I wish they had more sensitivity to how it might effect other parts of the world. War-torn areas in Europe and in the US. I was in a bad place once when tuning into a live stream. They reacted to Ugh and the chat filled with gun and explosion emojis. My niece was murdered by gunshot 6 years ago, and it tapped into my repressed emotions and a panic attack made me leave the stream. I haven't reacted like that since, but I can imagine there are many people with trauma who avoid the songs BTS uses those sound samples.

    • @DestructiveMediaYT
      @DestructiveMediaYT  2 года назад +3

I must admit, a month ago the gunshots wouldn't have affected me as much, it's just recent things in my country made me more sensitive to it. That's why I said nothing against them, I realize the shooting and gun problems is mainly in America, other people aren't going to react the same to gunshot sounds from other countries. Thank you for watching 💜
Also I'm very sorry about your niece, that's horrible and I hope you are okay and heal from that tragedy.

    • @flyushkifly
      @flyushkifly 2 года назад

@@DestructiveMediaYT thank you for your condolences. Losing my niece was horrible, but now mostly it hurts that my sister hurts, you know?
When you said people are angry at feeling angry all the time that resonated with me. It's absurd that the response to school shootings is always "more good people need guns so let's arm teachers against the bad guys" or people questioning the citizenship of the shooter and saying we have a national security problem. Anything to divert from the fact that we have kids who kill kids like fish in a barrel because they can get an AK-47 before they can legally rent a car... The hate I feel for the bastards who are maintaining the status quo for their own profit, disgust and bewilderment that people are being willingly manipulated by people who feed their egos and hate, and disillusionment that people are ok if others die as long as they can stand on some travesty of a principle of independence...(Hello anti maskers/vaxxers. I'm sure the Vinn diagram overlaps greatly.)
I hate what these people have made me. They shouldn't have had that power.
I used to be a pacifist. Now I wonder where all the good assassins have got to. Wouldn't it at least be balanced if we were killing despots at the same rate as 10 year olds? I've always been a pessimistic, introverted misanthrope, but was willing to entertain the idea that everyone had an inherent capacity for good. Now I think humans are just inherently fearful and fear outweighs good unless there's a lot of effort put in to overcome it. And people are also lazy, tired, or malnourished.
What happened to the idea that evolved humans are bound to a social contract to help one another? I'm pretty sure our lizard brains have doomed us.
      Ta da! More depressing thoughts!
