I've grown a lot of stuff in hydroponics, and generally the results are more tender and better quality and than soil or anything you get in the store. The best thing I've ever grown hydroponically is strawberries. They taste like soft buttery sweet candy
I love the Kratky method and have several things growing in it. It's much easier to go spy the three-part Master Blend mix than the separate parts. And you can definitely do larger plants. You just have to plan for it. I love being able to grow inside through the winter.
I had a horrible year this year with all plants dead in pots. Stunted then dead, so I am already planning on the stuff I need to do the Kratky hydroponics, instead of potting soil, next year. I don't do leafy plants and instead stuff like tomatoes, peppers, egg plants, etc...
Wow, really enjoyed watching this video. You make it look so simple. I see so many people planting with hydroponics systems but I’m yet to try it and your video really inspires me to give it a go. Thanks for sharing👍🏾
Started again with food safe containers and at the moment they are in a plastic container waiting for the roots to grow longer should be fine I also have plenty of lettuce dr kratky is fantastic
Very great video! Did you stagger the general planting time for greater harvesting time? Also what was your temperature in the environment/ was it in the home?
Thanks! I did mention it 8n the conclusion section, not great for growing non leafy plants. So lettuce, bok choy, herbs will work great, not the rest. The cauliflower never flowered, so should have mentioned that, you're right!
I've tried it with this same fertilizer he's using with a 12 G of the tomato fertilizer 12 G nitrate and 6 G of salt I got about half the size. I'm thinking it needs more fertilizer .I haven't tried it since the failure
You do not need to change the solution. The plant life cycle will take up the solution as it needs. I had about 30% solution left after the plants died
The idea is to let the water be consumed completely for the life cycle of the plant. After that, you can either discard the remaining water and start anew OR Add both water and the recommended salt amount for the water proportion you are adding
@@CaliforniaGardening Thanks for your response. Wow, so you only had to make the solution at the beginning and never had to water the whole time? Also, what do you recommend for lighting? There are so many options out there. I am just looking for some basic lights to grow some plants in the basement
thank you for such clear instructions. However, I noticed most videos gardeners are using this method for indoors with a grow light. Can this be placed outdoors here in southern CA, zone 9/10? Would this work when temperatures range from 50's-100F?? or is this only for indoor growth? I would very much be interested in this, but do not want to invest if not proper for outdoor. thank you.
Every brand is different and it tells you amount on the bag. For the stuff he is using a 5 gallon mix would be 12 grams masterblend 4-18-38, 6 grams Epsom salts, 12 grams calcium nitrate. Definitely read instructions for all brands and mix according to what they say.
Not inside your house they don’t. But they should be spray painted black to prevent algae from forming in the water because if nutrient water is exposed to light it will grow algae. Go check out some of the thousands of amazing hydroponic Kratky channels there are on RUclips

Good to know, will try strawberries!
@@CaliforniaGardening good. Just try not to submerge the strawberry crown. Make sure you grow from root crowns and not seeds
what type of strawberry did you grow?

I have done this 2 yrs ago and it worked could not last yr but looking forward to trying this yr to see if I can get some good food
Interesting. May not be for everyone, but I really appreciate you sharing different growing methods!

Great job and very inspirational. Think I'll try growing seaweed this way one day. Ok
Good video, you can use a smaller tote you just may need to refill it.
Excellent video this was very informative thanks! 🙏 Has given me confidence to give hydro a go :)
Glad it was helpful!
Thanks I will try this weekend summer here in Australia
Good luck! How did it go?
Started again with food safe containers and at the moment they are in a plastic container waiting for the roots to grow longer should be fine I also have plenty of lettuce dr kratky is fantastic
Awesome, good luck!
Great video. I assume you grew these inside. If so, do you need a special light source? Thanks.
Good video 👍
Very great video! Did you stagger the general planting time for greater harvesting time? Also what was your temperature in the environment/ was it in the home?
I just planted once. Indoor temps were around 69 F to 82 F
Any grow lights or sunny window?
Thank you! Very helpful video.
Probably be easier to mix all the powders into a pitcher of water with an immersion blender then mix that into the tub.
Outstanding!!!! 🙌🙏🥰😜
Are the nutrients are same as organic nutrients plants get from soil
No, these are salt based nutrients!
@@CaliforniaGardening so we aren't getting the same nutrients at all?
i think is fairly cheap it's 10 bucks. You can get it any pet store. You can also get 4 hour timer too.
Good effort.
Good stuff ‼️ Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for the great learning info, but I wondered; that you've missed out on the "Cauliflower" 3 plants response/success or failure status if any!!!

How often should the water solution be changed 🤔
You do not need to change the solution. The plant life cycle will take up the solution as it needs. I had about 30% solution left after the plants died
@@CaliforniaGardening So do you just top off with tap water, or do you add more salts as you add more water? Thanks!

Yes I grow a ton of stuff outside with the Kratky method in zone 9A
Where do buy your thorned eggplant seeds from? Do you sell/ship to San Francisco Bay area? How much is the charge with shipping if you are selling?
Rather use individual jars or containers. That tote is way too big and all u getting is 6 plants. Not that great of space use.
Hi! What growing lights do you use for this?
How much nutrients would you mix for a small bucket? 3 gal and 5 gal?
Every brand is different and it tells you amount on the bag. For the stuff he is using a 5 gallon mix would be 12 grams masterblend 4-18-38, 6 grams Epsom salts, 12 grams calcium nitrate. Definitely read instructions for all brands and mix according to what they say.
Hey I have that scale! ;)
yellow lids will attract bugs
