  • You may recognise this car from the 1986 movie Ferris Bueller's Day Off, in which Ferris convinces his friend to joyride his dads precious, barely driven but often polished, Ferrari 250 California Spyder. Turns out that a lot of owners are just as precious about this car so they barely see the road. GTO engineering's solution to this is to create more! This time using modern technology to produce original specification parts that are more reliable and, therefore, less frightening to roll out of the garage. Alex Goy takes one for a drive to find out what they're like to drive!
If you're unfamiliar with GTO Engineering, they are the people who are trusted with maintaining, restoring and race prepping Ferraris of all vintages. The California Spyder is one of three revival cars that GTO Engineering offer including the legendary 250 GTO SWB (Which you can see here • Ferrari 250 SWB, a GTO... )

Knowing the rarity and astronomical value, I almost fell over and given the area, I didn't doubt the authenticity at the time. I've seen a yellow 250 California where I live in Lancashire, once at a local classic meet near Chorley and at the Ormskirk Motorfest in 2017. Apparently it is (or was) owned by a Ferrari enthusiast named Steve Pilkington and is a rebodied Ferrari using the chassis from a 2+2 coupe and made to look like a real 250. He also owns a 275GTB and a 250SWB. You don't need to live in London to see people with alot of money.
