I’ve listened to this 100 times, it is legendary. The whole thing uses the simplest basics, it’s two chords and two scales that share most of the same notes and my main MF man Jake goes into rock god mode with it. This dude is not just a great music instructor but he is a dope artist.
I played guitar for over 15 years, and did my best to learn by ear. I got so good at one point I was able to transcribe solos from dimebag Darrell randy Rhodes by ear. But I could never tell you much about music theory, modal interchange or anything like that. I always had my own theories about how things worked, and this video really just blew me away. How did I never venture out? Learn this stuff at a younger age? I always thought music theory was too expensive growing up or that everything that I wanted to learn would eventually come to me either through practicing or watching old guitar tutorials on how to play.

Jake, thanks. You explained something i thought i knew, but didn't. It's like I now know how to get where I want to be: hearing my way through changes, etc. and hearing the finer points which to the educated ear cannot be faked. The way you take a small line through the chords is the most valid way to learn how to play through changes simply because you have to. This helped me. I know all the theory but proving its efficacy is another story. There are levels of understanding the modes. Most people have a generalized understanding but cant apply the theory live in unfamiliar territory simply by ear. Or when you start with a minor chord and resolve down one semi tone but with a major chord.
