(Turn Me Loose) And Let Me Swing (R. Pennington 1988). Dave Maybee.
“If I had my ‘druthers” was the first thing that inspired me to want to play this great song, the only recording I’d initially heard of was by Willie Nelson, and that brought with it the evocative imagery & multi-instrumental ‘voicing’ that is central to Western Swing - a big-band orientated sub-genre of country music that originated in the late 1920’s and grew out of the West Texas, Oklahoma & California dancehalls during the 1930’s & 1940’s. “Cowboy Jazz” is a real Americana blend of rural, cowboy, polka, old-time, Dixieland jazz, blues & swing. (ashley knox - bass, freddie “Fred’Mo” limbert - drums, gary verberne - guitar, liam ryan - piano, dave maybee - vocals, guitar & lapsteel, peter skandera - harp)
    Photographic editing - dave maybee.
Produced & recorded by dave maybee at Karioi Sound - Raglan, New Zealand.
