And to you rude hair haters: It's a guarantee that your hair doesn't look appealing to every person who has to look at you. Hopefully for your sake, those people have the decency and maturity to keep their mouths shut about it and focus on less superficial things.
I never knew you could do this and always felt sad about the odd scraps of batting that I threw out thinking they had no other use. I just labeled my newest scrap of batting and can't wait together to piece together a big piece once I have enough! Thank you for sharing!

Lots of good hints on joining the batting scraps; thank you! I thought it was funny that Mary contradicted herself when at first she said "If you ever find a teacher that says, 'This is the only way', you just have to run away"; and then she said you shouldn't join different kinds batting together (like a poly batting with a cotton batting). Yes that second comment is correct and I understand why. And yes there are many times that various quilting procedures can be done different ways (like pressing their seams to one side or pressing them open). But there are SOME instances, like the batting content that really should be done one way for a reason.
I don't run away from instructors who say the procedure they're showing us should only be done this way. I listen to their explanations of why it's done that way. There are reasons for certain traditional quilting rules - and the result is usually more success in one's finished quilt.
I've found that some instructors (and students) categorize rule followers as "Quilting Police". (No, I don't recall Mary using that term.) These instructors can operate a little loosey-goosey, like not giving accurate measurements for fabric in their pattern instructions (leaving the quilter with not having bought enough fabric); they might use the cutting mat's thick lines for counting how many inches to cut their fabric patches instead of a proper quilt ruler; and don't seem to understand the importance of sewing scant ¼ inch seams, or even squaring up their blocks before joining them. This leaves the quilter wondering why their blocks are too small and don't fit properly with other blocks; and instead of finding joy in making a quilt, they become frustrated with the whole process.
Erika said, "You have to find what works best for you"; I so agree with that. What works best for me is first understanding WHY a procedure is done a certain way and then I can intelligently choose the best method.
I saved a lot of batting pieces of all sizes. My granddaughter's quilt was stored and a mouse got into it and chewed 53 blocks. I replaced them all using pieces of the batting I had saved, and the original fabric I still had in my stash. It was all worth saving.

Thank you so much for this tutorial. I watched it and went up and tried it and the results were perfect with no puckers. I normally whip stitch it, but it always seems to pucker on me. I love your tutorials!

Things I do with pieces of batting left :
-If it's poly, use it for stuffed toys or amigurumis.
-Filling for packages.
It's also a lot of work to sew the pieces together, so I'd keep the project simple and small, like changing pads, placemats, etc.
Do you think mixing cotton and 80/20 would be a problem...I failed to label, so I am sure I have scraps that are mixed.
A three-step zigzag does a nice flat join that does not bunch up. You cannot feel it at all when you rub it between your fingers.
What about the other kind of batting? I never buy the batting you are using, I buy the cheaper poly batting. It is low loft but it is fluffy. TY

Mary.. Thus was a very helpful video... I have lots of smallish pieces of batting.... I really like your new hair color.... Please don't take offense, but you need to brush your heir.... It's such a pretty colors but I thunk the "messy " look is distracting.... I have to say I'm not sure where you thought it was a good idea to mention her "messy" hair and to tell her that she needs to brush it ??? I'm pretty sure you should find your manners and keep your "don't take offense" comments to your self. My 5 year old knows better than that! Come on!

the hair thing is very annoying and so are the pop ups the volume could be a little louder if I don't catch something I can just go back and listen to it again and the pop ups don't have to pop up to block what I'm trying to watch

@@deborahgibson6538 wouldn't "DEAF IMPAIRED" actually mean that one can in fact, hear? "Hearing Impaired" means one has difficulty hearing from a moderate degree to total loss. That would make Deaf Impaired the opposite, wouldn't it?
