    After starting our Poland travel adventure in the South of Poland, we left the Tatra Mountains in the south of Poland in a town called Zakopane and made our way up to Warsaw. We checked into our epic hotel (best smelling hotel to date) and had a fancy dinner.
    Where we are staying: Nobu Hotel bit.ly/3hbVQUC
    The next day we headed out into the old town and saw - Old Town Square - Royal Castle (Zamek Królewski w Warszawie). We were tempted to go up the bell tower in castle square (plac Zamkowy w Warszawie) which is a great view point to see the city but since Theodora is heavily pregnant we passed.
    For centuries #Warsaw the capital of Poland, has been a centre of refinement and knowledge. Its strategic position has also made it one of the most invaded countries in Europe. Your Warsaw stay will bring you up close to the sites of these historic events in the Old Town and across Warsaw’s many monuments to the past. Enjoy more historical sites along the Royal Route. Visit St Johns Cathedral and St Anne’s Church, whose interior miraculously survived the war. One of the few statues not destroyed by the German army is the mermaid Syrena, the symbol and protector of Warsaw. Theodora’s finders facts will explain the story behind her.

    Welcome to our home hometown. Do you know that:
    1) Warsaw is the highest city in the European Union. It has the most skyscrapers over 100 meters high,
    2) The tallest building of the European Union is located in Warsaw - Varso Tower, 310 meters high,
    3) During World War II, Warsaw's Old Town was completely destroyed by the Germans. In 1980, it was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List as an outstanding example of a complete reconstruction of a historical complex.
    Greatings from Warsaw.

    • @Rzoockxz
      @Rzoockxz 3 года назад +3

      But, to be honest, Polish people like cheating on this. Varso Tower, as many other Warsaw's skyscrapers, has an unproportionally tall antenna at its top. I believe it's been designed like this specifically to become formally the tallest building in the EU, though by the height to the roof, it's actually not. And, although the building has already got its final shape, it's still under construction.

    • @hotelsandkids9643
      @hotelsandkids9643 3 года назад +2

      There are about ten super high skyscrapers that are formally still under construction. This is why some say that formally Warsaw is still not the highest city in UE :) Even if it is true, it will inevitably become one. This is a matter of "days". Regarding this antenna - I also have got the feeling that it was designed like this but a record is a record :)

    Warsaw is the European capital. Culturally mixed. It is the combination of flavors from all over Poland, Europe and beyond)) But there are famous pre-war dishes in the strict sense - Warsaw, only Warsaw. These are definitely potato dumplings served with meat, Warsaw style tripe with meatballs, and the famous WZ cookie. It is post-war, when the WZ (East-West) route was built under communes. There are communist-styled pubs in Warsaw, where you can go in 24 hours a day, drink a few shots of vodka and eat a herring, jelly made of pork legs. Like those old factory workers. They always ordered "binoculars with jellyfish"))) I mean - pork leg jelly and two hundred vodka))) Now these are fashionable, youthful pubs. But when I am in Warsaw I always order Warsaw-style tripe with meatballs. Delicious! Spicy beef rump soup with ginger and black pepper. Cool! This is a pre-war Warsaw style.

    There is an eternal rivalry between Krakow and Warsaw :) LoL.
    I remember a good joke about this rivalry; 'Why the king Sigmund Vasa moved the capital from Krakow to Warsaw? Because his medic told him to move from the city to the countryside!'
    I find them both unique and interesting in their own way.... while Krakow is slightly more laid-back, college town well known for its ancient architecture and exquisite lifestyle, Warsaw is more of the business boomtown with a fast pace of living and far more liberal.

    Wow you got fancy there, Nobu Hotel of Robert de Niro, is exclusive, but for sure worth it. First capital of Poland was in Gniezno. During the reign of Casimir the Restorer, due to the destruction of Gniezno in 1038 by the invasion of the Czech prince Brzetysław I, the capital was moved to Krakow. To this day, there is no clear answer as to why Sigismund III Vasa moved the capital from Krakow to Warsaw. According to some, the main cause was the fire of the Wawel Royal Castle, which in 1595 destroyed a large part of the royal seat.

    @ 8:51 Column was erected in memory of Shuysky's tribute, act of homage of the Tsar of Russia Vasyl IV Shujski and his brothers, Dmitri and Ivan that end up in Polish captivity after taking Moscow in 1610. It is not like we think that Warsaw is worse than Cracow and it shouldn't be a capitol city (because we really admire how Warsaw is handling all political things and how Cracow can be thanks to that more quiet and calm). It is much more complex that i could describe it in a short comment (so if you guys want to know the story i can honestly write it in pm) - but continuing this messing around: we just know that Cracow is better XD

    It's commonly believed that Zygmunt moved a capitol to Warsaw, but it's only partialy true. He moved his court and most of crucial institutions to Warsaw out of convenience, this city was more centrally located and Sejm (parliament of nobles) was gathering here. Cracow was still considered as the capitol, the royal treasury and the royal archives remained in Cracow, Kings were still coronated and burried after death there, precoronation meetings also took place there (since 1573 King was elected and every new king before coronation had to sign a document which obligated him to do certain things, but this is a different story ;p). Warsaw was called "the residential city of his majesty". After reclaiming an independence in 1918 Warsaw was the facto the capital, but constitution from 1952 was the first document that lawfully made Warsaw a capitol of Poland.
    But it's not really important, just a trivia ;p Great video, i'm happy you have a great time in Poland
