      @CrazyLegsMcGee two complications.
      1. It did very well, but it technically didn't win last year.
      2. That's still 10k higher than the average new car price, which means even if we restrict our conditions to "majority of new car buyers" we probably still fail as assuming a normal distribution would probably result only 40% of buyers able to afford that car.
      Which is depressing now that I think of it.

      My guess is tires. As someone else pointed out, the 488 GTB may have been lapped on factory optional track tires, whereas the F8 Tributo may have been lapped on milder street tires.
      But it could be many things. Track condition. And also not putting the power down like you said. Same thing happened on Sport Auto when the 620R was slower than the 600LT, and the 765LT was slower than the 720S Track Pack.

    No one is going to comment on how obviously Ferrari was cheating at this event in prior years? Look at how the lap time of a 2016 488 GTB is 0.5 seconds faster than the brand new F8 Tributo, when in every way the F8 should be faster. What's the difference? My theory (and trust me, you'll like it) is that due to COVID and the inability for Ferrari to send a race team from Italy to prep the car, this was actually a production car, rather than a magazine ringer. End result? It's WAY slower. That's just how Ferrari spins.

  • @j7b890
    @j7b890 3 года назад

    I'm not sure why you would state the the 2017 488 gtb was a ringer (sayng that it was as fast as if it had been chipped to 800hp) when looking back at the video online and it is clear that the 488 doesnt have the brutal acceleration of f8. Even on some short straights (like the coopers sign one) the F8 was like 5/6 miles faster than the 488 (from your online video). On the Rahal straight same story. What seems clear comparing the videos is that turn in and mid corner speed was faster on the 488 compared to the F8 (maybe better brake feel?). Practically on every curve the 488 gained 2/3 miles on entry speed and retained that margin throughout the whole curve. This again is visible on your 2016 488 gtb video. Then the F8 almost made up for it in the straights. But laptimes are not made in the straights alone. Randy's lap on the 488 seemed also far more aggressive than this one (perhaps the 488 inspired more confidence Idk). As far as the 1/4mile time the 488 gtb has been tested by other cars magazines at around 10.5s/10.7s while the f8 from 10.4/10.6. Nothing strange there too. You also mention that the f8 is lighter than the 488 gtb but interestingly enough other car magazines have shown the f8 to be as heavy or at times heavier than the 488 gtb (by as far as 150 lbs). This in Europe maybe the USA version was different.
