    This is great, Shane. I am a big fan of showing unified SmartHome tech, automations, and scenes for specific rooms that folks can use to upgrade their rooms and/or to create new ideas for automations and scenes. Better still, it was a well timed release for a nursery video 😀

    Super cool video. So glad you released this on Mother's Day. Very nice touch.
    The only thing I would add right away is one of those White stick-on cord keepers on the wall to put the power cable in for the camera, and maybe the SwitchBot hub. That way it will be less likely to get snagged and pulled off and hit the baby by accident.

      Thanks for watching Frederick!
      Good idea on the cord organizers. I've been using some in the studio on a recent installation. I'll make sure the parents here are happy with the location of everything and don't plan to move anything around. Then I'll offer to add some of those.

    Nice setup. However I’d avoid putting humidifiers in a house as if they are not thoroughly regularly cleaned and filtered water used, they can end up causing sinus issues and respiratory issues from the bacteria that breeds in constantly damp locations. The following is a quote from experts in these things.
    “While moisture can be a positive thing, it also poses problems,” says Janice Nolen, an indoor air specialist and assistant vice president for national policy at the American Lung Association. “Moist environments provide a wonderful breeding ground for mold and bacteria.” If you neglect to clean your humidifier properly, it can quickly become a cozy incubator for germs-one that aerosolizes those microorganisms and mists them into the air you breathe, she says.

    • @ShaneCreates
      @ShaneCreates  Год назад

      Thanks for the advice. I agree that the humidifier needs to be regularly cleaned. That's why I don't use them much in my home... mainly because I hate cleaning and maintaining them. I spoke with the father about this though, so they are aware that it needs to be cleaned regularly.

    I have an Aqara single box double switch fan/light switch that controls each separately that works rock solid. I’ve mentioned this switch numerous times before on your channel and live feeds. Please don’t start them down the ever suggested Lutron Caseta $$$$ rabbit hole!!! Aqara has them covered!

    • @ShaneCreates
      @ShaneCreates  Год назад

      The Aqara double rocker would still require the fan to be wired to a switch separately from the light.
      I love Lutron Caseta. I also think Aqara is a great budget alternative. There are limitations with Aqara light switches though.

    • @midgeta6864
      @midgeta6864 Год назад

      I guess I just assumed someone trying to use a Home app Home would wire things for that use instead of out of date pull chain use since most fans can be wired either way…. sorry my bad ….

    • @ShaneCreates
      @ShaneCreates  Год назад

      @@midgeta6864 that would require rewiring from the fan all the way to the switch. Most people aren’t going to do that.

    May I ask why you did not use a single Matter / Thread devices like Eve and Nanoleaf, but rather went for zigbee all the way with Aqara?

    • @ShaneCreates
      @ShaneCreates  Год назад

      I did use a Nanoleaf light bulb. I went with Aqara for the sensors because they are cheaper, and we wanted a camera in there anyways, which can act as the Aqara hub. Plus they work great. If they did not want a camera in there I might would have used Eve for the sensors and light switch.

    Great info but I can’t listen to it for more than a minute at a time due to the background music and bass thumping. I don’t know why that needs to be there when you’re talking. (I listen on a fully calibrated home theatre system. It’s a health issue for me. Kind of like the flashing lights problem people have only this is for sound.) Maybe that low bass thumping can’t be heard by people on cheap headphones.
    But, great info and great video.
