This turned out to be more interesting and informative than I expected!
I have to say. This helped me understand why all these new binding companies are using smaller disc. Thank you
Perfect explanation!! thanks
I bought some falcors last year and my first mini disk and I love them
Dang, what a good Explained. Keep it up!
I needed this video many years ago.
Thanks for the info. Never understood why the size of the disk played a role.
I like the flux binding with the offset centre so you can rotate to move the binding wider or more/less toe/heel overhang. Especially useful for smaller binding sizes.
Flux bindings suck balls
Yeah all companies should do that
Nidecker/Flow has it, too.
I got the now select pro and just got the union falcor but haven't tried the falcors yet noticed discs are smaller
Perfect explanation!
Centering binding / boot with asym disk would change the feel of a binding I would think. So with bigger boots more deadspot on heel side, more play on toe side?
It's why I like the NOW Skatetech. Tons of board feel and drive.
I have a big disk
😂
That’s not what your girlfriend said!
big disk energy 💪
I have the Union Atlas from 3 or 4 years ago and I noticed that they milled out the bottom so there's less contact on the top of the board. So, big disc but still less surface contact than if they didn't mill it out. Kinda interesting.
@angry snowboarder what kind of bindings do you rock?
Recently found out how little outside support there is on the baseplate of Union stratas after trying other bindings. Is there a word for how much the baseplate wraps around a boot? (not the ankle strap, but the "sidewalls" of the binding)
Excited to try the mini disk on the new ultras coming from burton cartels!
I agree 100% !!!
I wasted 2 pairs of union strata base plates in 2 seasons where everytime the minidisc broke through the base plate.
Union gives a life time warranty on the base plate, so I got them replaced every time but it always took +3 months to actually receive them.
They promise a lot on paper but their customer after sales sucks big time.
No more minidisc or union for me ever again.
were you doing big lands in the park, or super-aggressive charging that put extra pressure on them both times to break them? or just both went at some point during the course of average riding?
@@RokSivante I think it was the butters that did it. I remember destroying the baseplate when I was doing BS 180 to tailpress + switch FS 180 out. I had a super flexible board back then (Batalion whatever)
@@juggyfreak622 word. It’d be interesting to know whether there are common denominators between instances they go; also if majority are with bigger/heavier riders. I’m only like 150lbs and don’t ride park at all so wouldn’t be putting those kind of pressures on the gear and not too concerned, but would be far from ideal to blow out while going hard deep in the trees.
Angry After Hours: Big Black Discs
If I can touch em they are the right discs
Ride disc seems to fit both 2x4 and 4x4 pattern. Would you say the lateral play will change depend on how you mount it?
To an extent.
Do you prefer mounting 2x4 or 4x4 on your boards? And how much of a difference can you really tell if say I switched my rome vice's from 4x4 to 2x4 on my ravine?
At this point I just mount them and go. You have a screw driver? Know how to use it? Time to experiment.
the Union disc shown here measuring at about 2-7/8"...
is that their ultra-mini-disk from the Falcor & Ultra? or the mini-disk from the Strata?
Ultra
Alright so I have been riding Nitro bindings since like 2017 because of the air heel. Did my 100- day seasons between 1994 and 2006 and weigh *at least* 230. Have not felt the edge power and responsiveness that I was used to on the older gear. But I don't want a super stiff binding. Any specific recommendation better than a Nitro Team for all mountain freeride?
Might be time to upgrade to the Phantom Plus if you like what Nitro has going on otherwise the 9/10 series from Ride or even a Cleaver from Rome or Atom from Bataleon.
@@AngrySnowboarder thanks man I'm a proud monthly patreon sticker supporter. I'll take a look at these options.
I have an older pair of Burton with Re.Flex disc. I didn’t feel any difference compared to 4x4 disk. I’m also only like 125lbs on a good day, maybe I don’t have enough weight to leverage and take advantage of the Re.Flex disk 🤷🏻♂️
Can we do a BOA v laces debtate
You can do anything you want.
Good info. I’ve been on the slopes 4-5 times and am getting better. Went to my local Christy in Cherry Creek and he told me to get a stiffer binding due to me being pretty muscular and explosive. 5’8 205lb. Any good rules of thumb for what bindings/boots would work best? He recommended K2 Maysis with Cartel X on the 156 ray gun I bought.
Grab a K2 Formula it'll save you money and it'll match the boot better. As far as boots go, the best boot is the one that fits your foot and fits your needs so try on the boots.
Was meaning more with stiffness. He made it seem like it was a big deal for getting my gear stiff as hell. They fit great tho 👌🏽
So with a mini disk my binding is supposed to move around on the board when screwed in?
All bindings flex on top of the board, with a mini disk it flexes more. If your screws aren't tight and the things going all disco foot you might have an issue.
@@AngrySnowboarder so fuck it I’m just getting other bindings I don’t trust only having these. What regular disk binding would you suggest on the DOA. Want something a little on the stiffer end any price just want something cool and functional. Thanks, certainly the go to guy for any snowboard gear assistance
How do these match up against Burton’s Channel system?
They're all compatible.
@@AngrySnowboarder ah sorry, I was wondering if your deadspot is the whole binding with the channel system as the old style bindings had the skrews on the outside
@@MrSaul04 Where the screw is you'll get a small dead spot. With EST bindings it creates a single dead spot on the right and left of the binding that was very minimal.
So, regular disc mode responsive and power... Mini disc more feel?
Basically
Also if you're someone who gets foot pain easily, you might want more of a dead spot.
Big disk energy
Does anyone else with big feet ever rotate their disc so they can better center their bindings on the board? I had a friend who used to do that
Oh yeah!
Hey, sometimes you gotta shoot your shot
And sometimes the bird flies the coop!
I’m 51 and I agree
And no disc, ride 90,s horseshoe 🤘talk about feeling everything 🫣
Gross.
Also gotta t-nut for that 26” stance width, hacksaw down your tips for lower swing weight, then throw some flowered shelf paper on the top sheet. Or just find an Avalanche Lunchtray 138.
If you consider 40 a dinosaur, what do you consider 54?
Fossilized.
@@AngrySnowboarder still rippin' in the surf and slashin' pow though 🤙
@@hughjorgen3052 at least you haven't turned into crude oil.
@@AngrySnowboarder another day on the right side of the grass
@@hughjorgen3052 that you have to maintain with a machine that uses that processed crude. The irony!
It is worth mentioning that Union and Nitro discs cannot be mounted on 4x4 inserts pattern (slamback pack) with all 4 screws, their size allows 2x4 mounting pattern only. Rome and larger discs can.
4:11 my guy
It's worth mentioning not all union bindings have minidisks
(And maybe people can just think a little and check the product specs) 🤔
@@AnonymousBoarder does it worth mentioning that comment is supposed to be in the context of the video and Avran at 4:11 did not specify exact brands?
@@AlexanderKontsevoy Nah 😆
Baseless bindings anyone?
