- Every shoot is special with my daughter, but this one was one of our best. And neither of us were prepared or expected it.
This one light setup is always my go-to for a quick shoot and the results speak for themselves.

In my humble opinion, seeing the setup is awesome. It lets me see how me setting up differs from other professionals. The banter between you two is great, I can see that I'm not odd with the conversations I have with my models too. Seeing the distance you use between the model and the light source is awesome, I find that there are times that I worry if I am putting the light too close to the subject so I move it back and then see that I would prefer it closer.
I love a harder light but when I use this softer light setup, I set it back a ways to get a touch of hardness
Loved this! I have a 25 year old daughter whom I love to photograph and also hate to photograph. The dynamic is very similar to the one you have with your daughter. She is lovely and I really love the shots you got!
Thank you. And it is a little tough sometimes but (hate to say it) useful blunt criticism at times. Something a client almost would never provide.

Thank you. I’m sure I’ll get better with the explanations as I go. Sometimes I forget that not everyone has 40 years behind them and the little things weren’t little for me either when I started in the 70s 😱

No doubt a different dynamic when the person being photographed is comfortable enough to work against what could very well be in their best interests, which seems to be the gist here? For whatever reason, and maybe the reason is irrelevant, it worked this time. And the dynamic here is great.

My daughter I think is same age, and seems self same relationship. My daughter did her degree in arts/media and does event management......Great shoot mate.

Fun to watch you and your daughter. Mine is also in her 20s and it’s wonderful seeing them as adults. I love and hate that 70-200. It’s stunningly sharp and surprisingly heavy.
I had the older 80-200 version when I was shooting professional hockey and I remember it being lighter. But that could just be that I was young and actually had some muscle 😂😂

Amazing! I always enjoy your videos, but this HAS to be your best, most enjoyable to watch. I've photographed my 30-something step daughter many times over her career as a competition dancer, and it def is a love-hate thing with the results of each session. Just two days before you posted this, I photographed a young woman for her real estate business, and she mentioned she wanted to do another shoot. She is also a fitness trainer, and wanted to do some fun images in that genre. And she has long dark hair like your daughter. I thought right away this is the perfect vibe for her shoot. What a hillarious shoot, it made the shoot very enjoyable.
You mention she had no make- up on and I ask why would you or she want to mess with perfection? She is very photogenic and a natural in front of a camera.
I have a 21 yr old grandaughter that I so want to take studio type shots. She does selfies but they don't do her justice. She wants nothing to do with anything like a professional shoot. 😢
Well approach her with the “I was wondering if you would be ok with me testing out some lighting ideas I have, I need a test subject and am comfortable with spending time with you”. 😊🙏. Second… makeup is an artistic form of expression and isn’t done for the primary reason of appearance to others, but an artistic outlet for those who wear it. I agree that people are fantastic as they are, but I myself love to see others express themselves with makeup as well. My daughter taught me that and I’m on board.

The setup i'm working on is hilarious.
those cheap chinese crossbars bolt together with a double stud. I had 4 of em and made a scrim frame. I don't recommend doing that.
The silk is a cheap 15 dollar projector screen and zip ties. I bounce 4 pocket flashes into it at the corners.
negative fill hangs on one bar.
velvet bacground on another.
and the last one is white bounce.
Reminds me of shooting into a softbox because i stuck white reflectors on the floor.

It absorbs the light so I can maintain shadow on that side of the subject.

Ahh now that you mentioned colour science. I know that sensors are sensors and each brand has its own unique recipe. As a Nikon and Fuji shooter (the latter is apsc- use it most of the time because it’s just lighter for daily carry ) is there any way to get closer to that Leica color science look? I notice my Fuji and Nikons tend to lean more to green/blue.
I am 100% positive you can tweak the color in camera but i believe it only effects the .jpg files. But you could have the same sensor in 4 did cameras and get completely dif looks. I love the Fuji look as well.
Inspiring as an amateur photographer i was afraid to do a photo shoot with my daughter because i don’t want to disappoint her but i think i will take a chance and ask her to try it

You're only using one light, how did you prevent shadows on the backdrop? is it because the umbrella is so large?
Yes. The position of the umbrella combined with the large size prevents shadows
