- DIY propane conversion from electric stove/range
In this video I'm going to show you how you can DIY an electric stove to propane stove conversion. This conversion can be done for around $150 dollars. In this video I'm going to cover how to convert to propane gas stove. How much propane does it use? How much propane costs per years?

Switching from Electric to Propane Stove
Switching from Electric to Propane Stove - Развлечения
I have just completed this project using 15 ft black 1/2" pipe in crawl space. Thank you for your information. It was very helpful.
This is perfect. Thank you for doing this video. We have a cabin with electric cook top and I hate it. But where we are they have kerosene not propane. I was thinking about doing exactly what you did and was wondering if it would work. You rock!
Thanks for posting this. Your conversion is a pretty common setup up here in Maine.
Note: You can also buy the larger 100 - 200 gallon tanks and not have a contract. However, the tank will belong to you, which means you'll be responsible for hydrostatic testing the tank when its inspection date is due.
Thanks for the heads up! Currently working on a video to walk through the plumbing. I’m redoing the kitchen and had to move stove and plumbing.
Mike
Our 56 lb contract tank hydrostatic reads 1999 !
Nice! Didn't know it would be affordable and easy to install?!
Yep - actually just moved this stove during kitchen remodel and made video on how to do the plumbing. Will be posted soon. Consider subscribing!

I'm a little worried because we have a 56-gal lbs contract tank for only the clothes dryer. Like you we are remodeling the kitchen now is the time to add a gas stove to the existing propane tank. I'm not sure my installation would be up to the code? Example: I have only one 3/8 copper line coming from the tank. It was reduced now by adding a propane stove most likely have to increase the size. My only problem is access to the existing pipe is through a window sill that runs under past the dryer vent. This setup has been used since 1984. Awesome video!
What did you do to convert the 240V/50A electric range receptacle to the 120V/15A supply that the gas range uses?
Have to run whole new line.. I removed the old 240 breaker and replaced with two 120’s.
It’s ‘kinda’ a conversion. More like remove all the old wire and breakers and replace with new 120’s.
Be careful !
THANKS !!! wow 200 !
Dual stage regulators do not mean you can run dual tanks. It has dual regulators inside the unit to regulate flow and eliminate flow and pressure spikes, as well as a failsafe in case 1st stage encounters a failure. You are using an RV regulator, with an "auto switching" feature. I just dont want anyone to go out and buy a single stage reg and think theyre good to go because they only have one tank. Good video overall though!! Keep it up!
I see it now!!!!! i definitely confused stage and "auto switching" facepalm!
Thanks
Mike
Is black pipe absolutely necessary, or would a flexible braided hose work from the tank(s) to the range? Looking at about 8 feet.
the flexible stuff would work to …. just test/check for leaks before you call it a day ! good luck !
@@FamilyDIYtv THANK YOU! Finally got this done. Had to wait for the two stage regulator to be back in stock - but it's all connected now and working like a charm!
@@vjnappo Thank YOU !
@@vjnappo I am right in the middle of the same project.
@@harakiri881 Go braided hose - it's been a year, and it worked out perfectly.
How much of a change did you see in your electricity bill after switching over to gas?
I don’t remember exactly but it did change.
Where can I buy the same dual regulator?
All links are in the description of the video - be careful !
Happy Friday !
Mike
I love grass grills
doesn't everyone love grass grills !
What about smell ????? Is there a smell at all
Holy crap ! biggie smalls !!! no - no smell
I have a 120 gallon propane tank at my home for a fireplace upstairs... I just made a apartment in the basement... I teed off the gas line and added a gas stove in the basement... But when I burn the new basement stove from the oven or burners on top... Seems like I smell something..... But only after using the stove....
I just bought a regular gas stove with a conversion kit
@@biggiesmalls9004 hmmm - in a basement, maybe it’s to small of a space for a gas appliance, do you have an exhaust? i believe each gas appliance is suppose to have an exhaust.
do you have co2 detectors? see a link to a gas detector in the description
@@biggiesmalls9004 Try a soap test. Get some soapy water and spray the entire line to check for leaks (it will make bubbles where the leak is). If its around a connection, try some gas line tape. There should be 0 smell when using propane. This is the #1 problem - and potential killer. Please make sure you have a co2 detector as well.
A two stage regulator has two stages of pressure regulation, a high stage and a low stage. This gives better control. "Two stage" has nothing to do with dual tanks.
I'm assuming i misspoke somewhere in this video. Thanks for the heads up my man !
Thanks,
Mike
Where r the links that were gonna be on the bottom?
Check the description box - thy should be there
-Mike
Got em thanks!!
20lb for two months?
Having a tad of a problem with this.
But am not challenging you.
It could work out if connected to and working with a single burner device. But as soon as i plug into my estimates double, triple burner or occasionally the stove over 60+ days it all stops adding up.
not sure what calculator you're using, but my estimates are from real life cooking. Have family of five and I'd say we cook more than a normal family. Maybe your calculator is assuming they're all on all the time ? seems like a fishy calculator or the calculator doesn't match real life.
either way I hope this works out for you !
-Mike
In Puerto Rico that's how everyone does it
Didn’t know this ! i can tell all the people that made fun of me for doing this ! lol.
Thanks
Mike
100 propane now is 2.60 this is 260$ a year not 100$
ugh- don't remind me... i guess the only redeeming value is that everything is up the same amount. feel like i should have bought everything i would ever need yesterday ! lol
20 lb not 20 gallon, 20 lb= 4.5 gallon
Thanks ! I’m assuming I misspoke or definitely said something wrong in the video ! Happy new year !
Not really a Conversion is it. It's an install
I can c that !
