      Basically it is paper glued to MDF board (can be seen 01:43). Then holes was drilled and from the backside this type of button was inserted and glued in place: www.amazon.com/QTEATAK-Momentary-Tactile-Button-Assortment/dp/B07VQF8P2Y/ Then all the buttons are wired on the backside in a matrix with 1N4148 diodes. Inputs connected to an Arduino Uno flashed as a USB keyboard that send key combinations to Windows. Then Joystick Gremlin triggers virtual buttons through vJoy. In SPAD.neXt events for MSFS are then set up to each vJoy button.

    Can I ask if Leo Bondar emulator boards would be better than arduino, vjoy and spad. I understand the bodnar boards can use 64 buttons and emulate keystrokes, therefore directly into the config of msfs?

    Pretty cool, I've got an in progress A320 build in similar spirit: "look good but doesn't have to be 1:1 and DIY everything that is reasonably possible". It's been a long project and it's still going to be a long project though; I've derailed on various side projects, like DIY 7-segments and DIY interfacing hardware (instead of Arduino). But I enjoy the tinkering so it's fine.
    Got any future upgrade plans on the sim? Anything you'd do different?

    • @fabian12345123456

      Not really any upgrade plans at the moment. Takes a lot of time to build so for now I'm happy that it is finished. But I really enjoy the tinkering as well, actually I enjoy it more than flying with it i think. Good luck with your project! :)

    I see you went with flat screens instead of a projector. I've been debating which is better. I think it looks better with flat screens, but projectors are where it's at. The only problem is that projectos look like shit. A few more flat screens on each side, and maybe some bigger screens placed a foot away from the cockpit would really sell it. Great job either way man. What a cool thing to have in your home.

      Hi! Thanks! I opted for monitors due to space limitations. I chose two 27” monitors because then I am able to use them for office tasks when the cockpit is stowed away. As far as I know normal graphic cards only support 4 monitors simultaneously (and I use 2 for the instruments), otherwise it would be cool to get one more monitor on each side for side views.

Also note that I actually redrew the printouts for the panel with flaps and speed brake, which can be seen at 01:42 in the video if you look closely. Maybe you can have mine as reference, but probably you need to draw your own. Actually I do not think it is very hard. Basically some circles, lines and texts. The hard thing is that you need to match and plan so it will fit your frame and the switches, displays and so on that you plan to use.

    Such an ingenious and excellent piece of work looking like a professional sim for just a fraction of its costs. Congratulations. May I ask some questions on the way you created the Korry switches?
    How do you fix the wooden "cubes" with the leds to the MDF "cases" with the pushbutton so that the switch remains together and the movable part does not drop to the ground (since it is mounted "top down")?
    How do you lead teh wires from the push buttons to the outside of the switch? Just around the round wood piece?
    What kind of print do you use for the legends to make sure it does not wear off when repeatedly touched by the fingers?
    Would be extremely helpful if you let us know. Thank you in advance.

      Hi! Thanks! Of course. You can pretty much see the entire design at 02:40. The small push buttons is glued to the wooden rod in the “top”. The cubes just sits in the mdf frame so that when you press it, it moves up and presses the button. I did make the holes in the plastic panels 1-2 mm smaller than the cubes, so that stops them from falling down. You can see the wiring at 02:50, I just soldered and moved the wires on the outside of the wooden piece. I did use laser printer on transparent paper (ordered online). I glued 3 or 4 layers on top of each other to make it really black and that way the fingers will with the time only wear of the print on the top layer.

    Really insightful technique into the backlit panels - I've been 3d printing mine with transparent PLA and raised text, spray painting the panel the Airbus colour and then sanding off the raised letters which works okay but doesn't look as nice as the result you've achieved, especially when the backlight for mine is turned off! From a previous comment, I see that you printed the black masks on transparent paper. For the coloured layer though, the video says that this was done on white paper - did you have to cut out the individual letters in order for the backlight to show through?

    • @fabian12345123456
      @fabian12345123456  2 года назад

      Hi! The coloured layer is printed on white, normal, fairly thin paper. I did not cut out the individual letters. The light just bleeds through the white paper (and before that it of course bleeds through the transparent panel and the layer with the black mask).

    Honest question, if I may. After building and assembling something like this for one plane, is it possible to use this, or partially use it, for another plane such as B747, A350, or what not? Just like we all use a lot of the same buttons on a simple yoke, joystick, and keyboard and go from a 737, to a 777, to an Embraer, would you be able to as well here? (Naturally SOME features wouldn't match up). That would include not only many buttons on the overhead but also the EFIS screens, FMC, whatnot. If not, then how do you go from flying the A320 but then feel like a 747 or E-175, etc, on a random day? Some of us feel quite inspired, but should probably know what to expect.

    • @fabian12345123456
      @fabian12345123456  2 года назад

      I only use it to fly the A320. Of course it should be possible to set it up and configure for other aircraft (just as you can configure keys or joystick buttons as you please. As far as the computer is concerned it just reads the inputs as presses on keyboard and joysticks). But I think if you want the option to fly different aircraft from day to day, you can build more of a "generic" setup that is more versatile and then save different configs for each aircraft. Actually, you can buy such peripherals like the Logitech pro flight multi panel.

      I used this product for the plastic sheets: www.biltema.se/bygg/skivmaterial/plastglas/plastglas-2000030030 I first started out with 4 mm, the result was best with this thickness, but it was a bit too cumbersome to saw and drill in it so I ended up using mostly 2 mm thickness. I would not use as thin as 1 mm, the sheets will flex too much I think. I think 2 mm flexes a little bit too much as it is already.

      There is some explanation at 09:00. Easiest way is MobiFlight with the included firmware for Arduino Mega. Works for both inputs and outputs. But I also use some Arduino Unos flashed to appear as USB keyboards for some inputs. I then use vJoy, Joystick Gremlin and SPAD.NeXt. More complex but provides more versatility for matrix wiring and configurations in SPAD.NeXt.
