  • Johannes Thingnes Boe of Norway, the leader in the BMW IBU World Cup Total Score has dominated the season. Yet he thinks he will face great challenges at the IBU World Championships of Östersund, starting with Martin Fourcade, the athlete that more than anyone else has helped him improve as a biathlete throughout his career.

Great video! I really appreciate Johannes pointing ou that he probably has the same level as last year but only way less competition. He seems to me that he's a great guy. Congrats!

I really really like Johannes. While Tarjei is a bit mouthy, he is genuine win or lose. Also, I like that he admires Martin and the fact he inspired him to be a better biathlete tho he is his biggest rival.

I remember going into the World Championships in Östersund thinking that Johannes would absolutely destroy the field. But I was quite surprised to witness that he didn't. His shooting really let him down. He basically threw away the gold medal in the pursuit, the individual and the mass start because of his bad standing shooting. To think that he only won one individual gold medal, in the sprint, is actually insane if you look back at how dominating he had been all season long. Of course, he was a part of all three relays and ended up taking home four gold medals, but I expected him to do WAY better in the individual races. Those three realy titles were team efforts and sometimes, it was his teammates that secured the victories and not necessarily him. I remember thinking that he might equal Laura Dahlmeier's record of winning five gold medals at a single World Championships. But he didn't and I gotta say, it surprised me a bit. Outstanding season regardless though I thought he was going to be a lot better at the World Championships than he turned out to be.

maybe but everybody will say martin was not in shape, that's why he won it...

Isn't that exactly what he says himself? "It's a bit less competition compared to the last season, if Martin had been in his normal shape we would have have won six each".
But that is just speculation, the simple fact is that this season Johannes have been by far the best biathaleth. The year before him and Martin was basically at the same level and the 4-5 seasons before that Martin was unquestionably the best in the world.

I guess that 30+ victories in WC, 3 golds at World Champ (out of 9 medals) and 1 Olympic title doesn't make you a champion yet
