Entering Myanmar Without A Visa (

- Myanmar, formerly known as Burma. A place I've always wanted to visit, but has been tragically out of reach for multiple years now. In 2021, the Myanmar military (also known as the Tatmataw) launched a coup against the civilian government, declaring the results of the November 2020 general election invalid and putting in place a one-year state of emergency. Eventually that morphed into a full-scale civil war.
During my travels through Nagaland, in far northeastern India, I learned that there was a border where people pass freely from one country to another. In fact, there were people who had dual citizenship. This was Longwa, and I wanted to see it for myself.

Native Burmese here, currently living in Myanmar. Surprised to see this video popping out on my fyp; it's honestly tragic to see the ongoing situations occurring there. I live in city, whereas safe from the war, but not entirely. Various types of danger are still on the rise here like never before, abductions, threats, and so on. Citizens each other advised not to stay out late and avoid going sketchy areas. Nothing is completely stable here, yet life is hell. Lack of electricity (esp. during this unbearable weather), economics issues, recent announced mandatory military service, which ultimately caused more people to flee the country. Future is uncertain. Even after all these circumstances, it's still skeptical the amount of time to reconstruct all these ruins. I appreciate every individual out there sacrificing their lives coming to this area, uncovering places that have never been recognised. Wishing your safety out there.
Why add the word Native? Aren't we all native? Karen, Arakan, Shan or Bama.
Just keep it simple 😅
@@zinny999 Apologies, I didn't seem to get to your point. "Native" in my case indicates that I was born here. Also, "Burmese" here refers to a person in Myanmar or in another way, "Myanmar person"? If that seemed to be a mistake, I apologise.
@@asap_fmHello from Florida in the America
@@asap_fmHi. I visited Myanmar in 2016. During that time, the young staff at my hotel were so hopeful about their newly gained democracy and the govt. I am very sad abt the way the military has changed things in recent years. I wish the Myanmar people to have peace & democracy once again. - from your neighbour in ASEAN.
Well the Naga Hills is not Burma... that's why it is safe
For this reason the Indian government has decided to end the visa free movement between India and Myanmar and fence the border completely. But Nagaland and Mizoram States are against it because it will cut the ethnic ties between them. Currently people of same ethnic groups lives in different parts of those hills, some in India some in Myanmar ( brits drew the border ).
The British created borders in many areas fair enough but the local indeginous people could have amended them after they left. Now it's used as an excuse
Even you lack full Knowledge about ethnic people living in those areas. Don't trouble to give knowledge.
Not really, they intervene via international pressure
It doesn't matter if the "same ethnic" backgrounds are separated by a border. i.e usa (hispanic) with mexico; almost all of north, and south america (mexico on down sans the non spanish speaking countries.
@theishingkhuishimray1892 I said that if u read my comment I am British . It's not always our fault we made borders but the indigenous peopled countries could have adjusted or rectified them

I've been a fan ever since you were in my country Kenya. I've seen so much of the world through you. It's made me realize just how huge and amazing the world truly is, paradoxically it has also made me realize just how small the world has become. Through you I've met amazing people in remote places of the world that i would likely never have seen even through the media and I've been left in awe of how similar yet so different we are. You seem to carry the spirit of the explorers of old who bravely ventured deep into unknown territory with little regard for their own safety, modern day travellers in comparison only visit familiar territory that would never actually excite the spirit of a true explorer.

15:14 I stayed in Myanmar for a month last year. Mainly in Yangon but I also visited Bagan and Mandalay. Yes, there are many checkpoints on the roads but people are friendly. I had a military guy that even gave me a free ride back to the hotel in Bagan late in the evening just before the curfew.
It's a beautiful country with very nice people. Yangon and Mandalay felt safe despite the military presence and tourists area allowed to enter. I applied for the evisa in advance and everything was smooth. I recommend you go there as soon as you can because you never know what happens in the future and the country gets closed again or worse.
Im so fortunate having been able to visit myanmar during the small window of opportunity. Its an amazing country with amazing people that just want peace..
That's technically racist as they are more divise than that. You can't categorise whole countries that simply. If they all wanted peace there would be peace but many want to grow and sell drugs and many are in rebellion so quit the nonsense. No ethnic group as a whole are peaceful humans are violent
I too visited Myanmar in 2016. Such a great experience. It was like a child awaking to the world . Everyone was so positive about their future.
We yearn for peace because we really haven't had that stability for.over.80 years.
small window?? I first visited Burma in 1988 an have been going back often thru 2019
with over 7 trips between 2014 and 2019
Firstly the British divided the Nagas into two nation: India and Myanmar.
Even within India, the government of india has divided Nagas into 4 states: Nagaland,Manipur, assam and arunachal pradesh.
I hope and wish that one day all my Naga brothers and sister will be reunited under one territory..

I love of this guys videos. Unlike the big travel bloggers that make millions of dollars thanks to RUclips, pretend to be “budget travels” Sabbatical is the real deal.
What I love about Tommy is that he is so genuinely himself. An honest man with integrity. In a time where selling out for success is all too common where people put on a persona or are deceptive it makes me happy to see somebody doing honest work. Great job mr sabbatical
Seeing the way these people live in 2024 is grotesque and foul bk respect for their community
I hope this gets a lot of views it's a beautiful part of the world beautiful man I wish I could go thank you for letting me live vicariously

Thank you Bro, for exploring the unique places of Nagaland which has lack of development. You are great brother, may God guide in every journey of your life, stay healthy.
Genuinely kind people, reminds me of old times when people still nice to eachother. City people are generally much more rude and selfish.
The R in Myanmar is supposed to be silent, but it was put in there so British people can say it. If it were up to Americans we'd spell it Myanmaw.
Bro you have not visited the Angh palace(half in India🇮🇳 half in Myanmar🇲🇲), the division stone/point, the view point/tower, the gun's maker, thr last head hunter alive which all these are the main reasons of tourist visit/attraction.
The view 8:24 looks stunning....the light coming from the sky to mountain....damn
The woman at 13:14 is so cute and respectful, it warms up my heart 🙂 I hope times will get better for these people in the not so long future. Sad how we don't hear anything about that region here in the west.
It really is
Tommy you truly are a superstar in my book. I worry sometimes about you. Thank you for your presentations.
Awesome video Tommy. I traveled in Myanmar like a decade ago... got some pics and vids from there. This makes me hope that I'm able to dig up that footage. Some really spectacular places there. Stay safe out there on the road.

Another excellent episode. Would never see this from any other travel bloggers. Thank you.
Tommy, just found out about your channel a few days ago. I love every video I've watched. A lot of other travel vloggers sensationalize and politicize everything, or are completely ignorant to the history of the region they are in. You are nothing like that, and I am so glad to have found this refreshing channel!

I worked as a teacher in Myanmar, in Yangon, Mandalay and Naypyitaw, between 2012 to 2022. It is a beautiful country and I hope to return when it's safe (my business visa was cancelled in 2022 when I went on a weekend break in Bangkok and I have not been able to return...)
Channel is raw and authentic.
Fascinating film Tommy. I've been lucky enough to venture well into Myanmar on four occasions. Two were as a solo bicycle tourist in 2000 and 2016 (even camped in the jungle). More recently travelling by train and road in 2020 and 2023. The Burmese are some of the loveliest people in the world. Genuinely kind and interested in meeting foreigners. I never felt unsafe or in danger (of course I did not go to regions in conflict). Look forward to seeing more of your travels. Thanks!
Is Myanmar open for tourism now? Can we just fly into Yangon walk around and take pics? I was lucky to go there in 2020.

Very moving. I'm not sure why . Great you are there tho , people show their trust in you right away as well as the chickens and all of village life. Well done Tom . I've actually cheered up now I've made this post.

Thanks for these videos man! 👍
You actually did it. I might just do the same as you and come on through to Myanmar. Wow.
I think you dodged a bullet literally and figuratively on this trip. Another great adventure.
What are you talking about?
Idk about the Myanmar side... But over here in nagaland side , nobody will mess with a random traveller. Ofc we have multiple rebel groups but they are not barbaric or desperate enough to rob a random traveller.. I bet my last rupee that if he met a rebel group , they'll welcome him, feed him, entertain him and drop him off wherever he wants to go. Nagaland may be a "rebel state" ... But guess? It's the safest state in India.. the yearly average crime rate is 0.03 % ... The arrested are 100% drug runners 😂😂😂 ..
Hey Tommy! I have a Rohingya friend who now lives in a camp. Prior, when he first had to flee, I financed his buying of books for his tarp schoolroom in which he taught. Since then, I've helped pay for his daughter to sneak out of camp to go to college. They are among the worst refugee situations in the world, but we westerners are too focused on whatever our media points us to. My heart goes out to all the Rohingya and their futures. Meanwhile love to you as usual, Tommy, from my sofa in NY!
The sun rays coming down from the clouds are incredibly beautiful at 8:40, wish I was there. What a breathtaking view to go along with it!
