Not gonna lie… as a native Charlestonian, I opened this video ready to be amused with the typical romanticization of my hometown. I appreciate the intentionality and attention given to the architects and engineers of our particular brand of Southern Charm.
So glad you enjoyed it and felt it was something different!
Charleston = world class food and fun. History is not for us to like or dislike. It is there for us to learn from. Not to erase or edit to our liking.
Your opening about the slave culture was a excellent. Lest we forget. Its important to know what really happened. Thank you!
Thanks Kate! It's an important part of history that definitely needs to be told.
My wife and I both appreciated your perspective and statements of what you saw regarding the slave and beautiful homes in regards to the build. We love you guys and continue to share your journey.
Absolutely, I am thankful they didn’t shy away from some of the hard truths of southern history in this video.
Great video! Thank you for your thoughtful description about Charleston's history of slavery. You handled it so well. I was really moved.
Lots of respect to you both for acknowledging the history in this town in a respectful light. God bless you both.
Slavery was a horrible time in our history. No man has the right to own another man. Just remember, not all slaves were kidnapped. A lot were traded and or sold by their own tribes. So when we speak of slavery we need to also let people know
How they were brought here. And not all slave traders were American. The British also had their hands in on it.
Nearly everyone had their hand in it at that time you're right. Netherlands British many other European countries. But since this was about Charleston we spoke to it's history and impact here in the USA.
Diverting and blame sharing is a way of minimizing our own responsibility. As a child, when I would do something I wasn’t supposed to my mother would scold me for it. My response would be, everybody else was doing it. She would say to me “if everyone went and jumped off a cliff into the ocean would you do that too?“
Love you videos
They were sold by other tribes to be indentured servants. If that did happen it was very few. It wasn't much. That's why the Roman Catholic Church, Spain, Jews, etc apologized for their huge hands in slavery. And usually the ones that were sold by other tribes it was because they were prisoners that usually came into their lands trying to steal or takeover etc. Which in Africa they did not practice Chattel Slavery. If you were a slave to another tribe you were allowed to serve in their army you were allowed to even work in places of government, your children were not born into slavery. And you did not serve more than 20 years and after your years of service you were allowed to go back to your tribe or lands, etc. Furthermore, They did not sell other Africans for them to come to America to be rap**, lynched, tortured, placed on S€× Farms, where you were bred with your own mother, brother, daughter, Aunt, sister, father and whomever just for money. Also those children, men and women were forced to do ungodly $€×ual perverted acts with the whyte men and women that would go to these farms to act upon their deviant behaviors. Their kids were fed to alligators as "Gator Bate, their childrens, childrens childrens, children were also born into slavery. They were also forced to sit in chairs with spikes and beaten bloody until they confessed that jesus was the only god. The men had their genitalia cut off and put into jars and preserved. 🤢 Both men, women and children had their skin removed and used as trophies including made into clothes. Also they had their hair shaved to make chair cushions for stuffing and also coverings. Like I can continue... Show me in History or now where black people did this to anyone... I will wait. Those were my people. The blood of my Ancestors run through me. And I will NEVER forget what happened to them in this SO CALLED CHRISTIAN NATION. I will remember just like we are Forced Every single year(rather we want to or not) to Remember 911, Pearl Harbor, the Holocaust, etc. Things that have nothing to do with me whatsoever. But before you talk get Educated and not in the American Way which pacifies your guilt which I don't understand why you have it. Since you have never owned slaves.
@@virgiljones7277 "our own responsibility" ? Speak for yourself, clown. I didnt own any slaves
Omg I love you .. you told the story many people are ashamed or too embarrassed to tell. Thank you for sharing the history of my people.
Wow! Another phenomenal video! Your parents clearly raised you both right, each place you visit your appreciation and respect is abundant, and well communicated. Thank you for sharing your journeys and adventures.
thank you for paying respect to the history and culture.
I went to Charleston for 3/4 of a day in November of 2021, and I just fell in love with the city. The historic buildings, the cobblestone streets and the Palmetto trees gives it a unique vibe. We also ate a Chubby Fish, and it was an amazing experience there. I'd like to add Hannibal's Kitchen as a must to eat. Insanely delicious Gullah food!
Y’all came to my hometown!!! That’s where I am! First, you educated us on the slave history is such an amazing way!!! GREAT JOB & thank you (on behalf of my ancestors)
I go to Vicious Biscuit alll the time & every time I love it! Rodney Scott is the jam! It was only fitting that he cooked for the ladies on Real Housewives of ATL when they came to IOP & recorder 3 or 4 episodes.
Which camera do y’all use? I struggle with the settings when going inside & outside. Your clips are flawless!
I can’t believe the Market was closed bc it’s never closed… lol I rarely see the pineapple off too…. I’m subscribing so I’ll know when y’all come back
So happy your video came up! Even tho I live here & I’m a native, you have me such an experience!
I watched every commercial & May have to check out your patreon
Excellent holistic appreciation, it’s so much easier to put on a very homogeneous lens. I’m glad you shared the beauty from various lenses.
Thank you. Yours is one of very few channels that relates a more complete history of the places you visit. It's appreciated.
I enjoy this channel and admire this couple's stamina. I traveled solo in my truck all over the country and road-tripping can be a grind. I couldn't imagine doing what I did with another person! I guess with an RV you wouldn't have to rough it so much, but I saved a ton of money and used it on all kinds of gear and equipment.
Great to see one of my favorite places from when I was a teen through "grown up" eyes with you all! Safe Travels!
Amazingly well-done video! I looked for a resource like this when I visited my boyfriend there in November. Will definitely be using it when I go back for a visit!
Marty’s place is another unique dining is like a modern 1950’s restaurant you order on a kiosk and they shout your order out loud like an old school hole the wall restaurant wich is a very unique restaurant
Thank you guys for taking us to one of our most desired destinations. Your little faces say it all with the foods you tasted today. Thank you again for making the most wonderful vlogs. Take care. Sue & John
Thanks sue and John! Appreciate you watching 😊
I’m planning a trip to Charleston in 3 weeks from now and was really impressed by the way you presented the city, it’s history and what it has to offer. Some great ideas for our upcoming trip.
If you ever find yourself in Ottawa Canada and need a tour guide to show you around hit me up.
We love Charleston. We did a beer tour it was a super cool way to hear history and try different bars. We have been 2 times and this town never gets old. New Subscriber here.
You both did a great job at showcasing Charleston! Alot of history here, that's for sure. I'm glad that was touched on. Yes Folly Beach is a must. Hope you guys can make there in the future
I SO recommend going on the Two Sisters Walking Tour if you’re ever in town. I have been 2 times and so thoroughly enjoyed it both times. You really get a look at all of the nooks and crannies around Charleston that you would miss otherwise. They grew up in CHS and have such thorough knowledge. So worth your time!
Thanks for the recommendation
Way to go guys! What a great representation of my hometown. The production quality and writing was spot on! I enjoyed watching you and look forward to discovering new videos from you. Be well and safe travels. ✌🏼❤🙏🏻
Local here. Great job! Next time you are downtown Charleston, check out Saffron’s desert counter. It is AMAZING.
Charles Towne Landing would also be a cool spot to check out. If you go to Folly, the very end has a great walkway to view sunrise & the lighthouse. We usually enjoy breakfast at the Lost Dog Cafe afterwards. Isle of Palms is an amazing place to catch a sunrise as well, & a better place for collecting shells & treasures from the sea.
Drayton Hall is highly underrated as a plantation here, but quite impressive.
My husband’s favorite shrimp & grits is at Sol Southwestern Grill & Tequila Bar. Their tuna lollipops are AMAZING!
If looking for Chinese food, Red Orchids never disappoints, & has been voted best of Charleston so many times.
As a volunteer for Shem Creek Fisheries (trying to save the shrinking fleet), I’d just like to ask you to support restaurants
that serve local shrimp. Many do not.
Agree with Mr. Mitchell and Ms. Green; you pegged Charleston. I have a friend from John’s Island that tells me that since I wasn’t born here, I’ll never be considered native, but since I’ve lived here in the low country for the last 40 years (got married here and raised my kids here) I can consider myself kin. While the history can be troubling the food and the architecture are the real jewels of Charleston. Yours is the best Vlog of Charleston I’ve seen. Thanks.
As someone from Charleston SC, I thank you for this beautiful review!
Glad you can make it to Charleston it’s a great place in great city to live! I currently live here too. Wonderful video! ✌️
I really enjoyed this vlog! I love living here
Wow. Gave me goose bumps. I would love to experience that plantation. I’m definitely going to try to make that happen. Thank you for this vid 👍🏿💪🏿🙏🏿❤️
Great video - your expression when he states “I never ate a little Debbie”. Priceless.
Haha I was shocked!
Before Rochester (remember?), we lived in Charleston for a couple years. Great reminder of beautiful city. We’ve been back and will return. Thanks for new food tips. Nice video. Travel safe.
Fine job you guys always have the best historical tours keep up the great work. Now i most go make myself shirmp and grits.
Thanks for showing us a full perspective of Charleston. It is definitely on my list! 🚐
Hopefully you make it soon. It's a beautiful city!
You’ll love it. Visit Folly Beach and Mount Pleasant as well as Market & King St downtown.
I have been to Charleston many times, as it is my favorite city. I have never been to Chubby Fish, but it looked great, so will have to check it out. Even the winters are pretty pleasant in Charleston, but rain and wind are always a possibility, when you only have 3 days. Gor many years I was there from Dec 26- Jan 3rd or 4th, and generally had nice weather will little rain. It is such a wonderful place, rain ot shine, and a foodie heaven, with great history and architecture. Glad you got to experience a Gullah presentation. Nearby Beaufort has a Gullqh Festival in late May. They are fascinating people to talk with, experience their Sweetgrass baskets and enjoy Frogmore Stew.
Great video guys! I live here and yall went to some of the best resturants that are not tourist trap places. Koodos!
I highly recommend the crab shack, especially the Charleston boil
Just came from Charleston. Very interesting; I felt such heaviness visiting the slave quarters at one of the plantations.
All your videos are just awesome, keep up the great work 😁👍🤗
Thank you so much! Appreciate you tuning in
The way that Queen gave that history gave me Goosebumps.
Good afternoon my name is Rodney Johnson and I welcome you to my hometown and I still live here. In my personal opinion one of the best beaches to go to is Isle of Palms in Mt Pleasant South Carolina. Thats one of the most beautiful sunsets in Charleston. Not to mention we have dinner cruises, as well for yall to enjoy. I really love going bowling and to the movies down here. Hope to see you one day the next time yall come back and visit
Great video!
What a beautiful and informative video. There is so much in every countries' past that doesn't always sit well with us today. No reason to not dive into it though and learn from it, What a lovely city and the food looked awesome. I have been given a recipe for the American biscuit. I need to try them. Happy safe travels. 🙏 💝 🇳🇿 🙋♀️ 🇳🇱
Well said
I live here and was surprised you showed me Vicious Biscuit instead of Callie's Hot Little Biscuit. I have seen it several times when I visit Januita Greenberg's. Will try it.
Going on a girlfriends trip this January. First visit for all of us.. Thank you for showing some must see and eat places. Chubby Fish is just a few doors down from where we are staying. We’re New Yorkers so the weather will still be warmer than where we’re coming from.
Beautiful video!
I hope you guys got paid by all of these restaurants and the city! I am so impressed with your quality, research and narrative. I see that your Patrons are UP! Yes!
Another is. City Bistro it is themed if 1950’s bar was in 2023 it has opened kitchens just Liberty it is smaller and combination of self serving and where you have to ask and then order what you want but has a good variety of options for being such a small but delicious dining hall
Welcoming intro, clean transitions , great video. Firm handshakes for a job well done 🤝👓
Thank you so much 😀- Dennis
Thanks so much for sharing the truth of the South and slavery. 🙏. I appreciate it
Thanks for watching!
What wonderful content! The foods look exceptional! Thanks for sharing 🖖🏻😘🙏🏻👍🏻
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it
when you come back come to fort moultrie! it’s a fort and also a beach that’s very beautiful and you can tour the inside! it’s my favorite beach in my 6 years of living here!
Charleston is the home of the oldest liquor store in the United States. The Tavern at Rainbow Row opened in 1686 and has been in business ever since.
Thank You for the Video, I'm going to Charleston tomorrow for a week and my 1st breakfast will be at The Vicious Biscuit.
I converted my Transit Connect van into a camper and was wondering were you parked overnight? I'm new to van-camping.
Love Charleston, the food is amazing !!!! Try to take a ghost tour next time.
Thank you for providing the context of the beautiful house vs. what it costs in human terms. Wonderful informative upload!
Thanks for watching Bia
One of my favorite places on earth
Yes definitely check out Folly Beach next visit.
The food - holy cow... at the Chubby Fish place. I wasn’t hungry and now I want to eat 😆 We were there about 10 years ago - so want to go back!
Haha so yummy!
When you try to easre history you will be sure to repeat it. This is why I just don't understand why people want to forget our past, it is what got us to where we are now.
Charleston is my favorite city in the south! Too bad the weather was crappy because it’s such a great walking city!
Yes I'm sure it is. It's beautiful! We'll be back for sure 😊
My favorite place on earth and I highly recommend the crab shack as an excellent place to eat!
Thanks for the recommendation!
Great review and tour!
We’re going there for Spring Break in March 2022 for 10 days.
The wife still is teaching at the University, so it’s a spring break trip this year.
Last year was Chattanooga, you should try Chattanooga too. It has a wonderful aquarium there and a tow truck museum
Hope you enjoy your trip. I'm sure they weather will be incredible for you!
HIGHYLY recommend the Aquarium! I currently live right outside of Charleston and its definitely a must! Hope you all enjoy your time here!
The market is a a very nice convenience store on the CofC campus and you definitely need to try its sandwiches because of the sandwiches are delicious
Liberty Fresh food co is one it is themed to like a very vibrant mall food quart for food it is a buffet style dining hall so all you have to do is pay up front and you walk in and on some of the counters you grab what you want yourself some of the counters you do have ask and then order what you want but majority of it is self serving
That’s my neck of the woods! We used to have this cool hangout spot called Wet Willy’s and they served alcoholic slushies😆
Wish you guys stopped in Myrtle Beach, SC on your way down south! Safe travels!
If you ever go back to Charleston you should definitely go to home team! (Its bbq) It’s on Sullivans island, they have the best food and if there is a wait you can walk the beach!!
Well put together video!
Thank you!
The more videos I see about Charleston visits I feel privileged to live here if you're in downtown make sure and check out Marion Square
They also have one of the nicest Estein Bros Bagels Starbucks as well.
Excellent video!! We bought a house in Summerville, S C. BEAUTIFUL AREA AND NICE FRIENDLY PEOPLE..
Amazing video!
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it
Wow. Great stuff!! I shudder to think what your weekly budget runs.
You'd be surprised it's not as much as you would think! We camped for free that whole trip. And we don't eat out like that everywhere we go. We cook in most times unless we're in a foodie city like this! So it averages out.
I live next to Boone Hall. Great video!
Hello from Indonesia! Love your content. I’m going to save Charleston to my must visit travel list. ♥️♥️
Definitely!
Thanks you for showing off Charleston! I currently live just outside and thought you might want to know some cool facts! 1 is that its a colonial law that has stayed in effect that inside the city there is to be no buildings taller then the taller church spire (hince no high rise buildings) also much like Savannah GA much of Charleston is built upon colonial GRAVES. Weird fact is most parking garages are built upon grave yards as SC only requires builders to move the head stone and not the grave itself!
Wow that is SUPER interesting. Is that one of the reasons both cities are believed to be very haunted?
@@EatSeeRV that's exactly the reason! When i lived in GA i did do a ghost tour of savannah and i have to say it genuinely is creepy!
'yall got to go in early April when the weather is pleasant and the azalea's are blooming everywhere!
Sounds lovely 😊
What month did you guys visit we are planning to go in April wonder what the weather will be like ?
Wish I had known u guys were in Charleston, would have loved to have met u in person! Glad u had a great time while u were here!!
Darn! We don't share our locations in real time for safety purposes. But our patreons get the inside scoop.
Leon's takes reservations
All the plantations now have an enslaved population focus, Boone does a great job, McLeod is amazing, check out the Slave Dwelling Project too, Joe is usually at Magnolia
Wow you got to go to Rodney Scott’s!! So jealous 🤤
Going to SC next January. Cant wait!
Have fun!
Awesome video guys - I’m coming to Charleston on a vlogging mission sooooon and your video has loads of great tips. Thanks. Oh, and +1 sub from me 😊
So glad you found it helpful! Hope you enjoyed or enjoy yourself in Charleston!
Born and raised in Charleston. Best place in the world
She crab soup, shrimp & grits, raw oysters and 82 Queen are a food lover's dream!
So true!
I expected you to sugarcoat the history of Charleston, but you certainly didn’t & I really appreciate that. I’m going to subscribe.
This makes me miss living in Charleston. 🥰😌
It's a great city. :)
Chubby fish is awesome ☺️😊🤩
We love Tybee Island by Savannah also.
Omg. So so good. Hope to see you in Fl. Stop by….Tampa show? Hope to see you guys. Best videos
We'll be doing updates on FL closer to Xmas so stay tuned! Glad you enjoyed the video 😊
You guys need to check out the College of Charleston campus dining halls
Excellent video. New subscriber here💕
Great to have you!
When you come back, rule of thumb - anywhere East of the Rockies gets humid.
Haha it sure does. We know the humidity well, we're from Florida 🐊 🌴
All I’m wondering is, where in the world do you park an RV in Charleston?
As always you did a great job of showcasing the history surrounding where you are. We can only imagine the travesties in which the slaves endured in order for the plantations to be profitable.
Sad y’all couldn’t explore as much because of the rain but those restaurants both looked amazing!
I swear you and Dennis are mine and Aarons foodie doppelgängers. 😁
Hahaha! Yum the best kind of doppelgangers! Yes it's terrible 😔
I have enjoyed Charleston a few times. The organization I was a part of in college started there. We need to go back and spend more time to experience it all. Did y'all notice the earthquake bolts on the historical homes?
Earthquake bolts, what are those? I bet if we did a tour we would have learned about them! Lol
@@EatSeeRV they are long rods installed in many of the buildings. This adds strength to concrete and helps protect against failure during an earthquake.
In 1886, one of the largest earthquakes ever recorded on the East Coast laid much of Charleston in ruins.
god i love rodney scott's
Hey guys, in our home town. Sorry the weather didn't cooperate initially.
Tis life! More reason to enjoy food indoors 😉
3/2/22 Viewing; loved it!
what time of year were you there?
