These Racing Games Will NEVER Be Played Again!

- Some games are made to be played for a long time. But the trajectory the racing game industry is heading towards is not that of everlasting greatness. Over the past years it has become more and more apperent that we will lose many former cornerstones of our beloved genre.
This is evidenced by the server shutdown of the Crew 1, which is happening on March 31st 2024. With it the game will be unplayable as it requires a steady online connection. This causes a lot of concern and more, which we discuss in this video
Which game do you want to see stay? Let us know in the comments! 👇✍️

Not only is game preservation a core issue, but how games, themselves, are being designed as "online only" to the point you can't even access the single player is a bigger issue only the publishers can solve. Spoiler: They don't view it as a problem. We're in the era of no more ownership, and corporations want it that way because you'll always have to "buy, buy, buy", or in this case, rent, rent, rent instead of actually own things like you used to at the start of the millennium. Music, movies, games, etc. are all falling under this model. This also means consumer rights are disappearing right along with these titles once their shortly engineered lifespan ends. What's worse is certain people defend these anti-consumer practices because it's all they've grown up with. Depressing.
Spot on 👍
You will own nothing and be happy 💀
“You will own nothing and like it” 1984
GT Sport will have some stuff still playable offline like GT League and Custom Race. The dev team confirmed it. The only thing I'll miss is the design editor being removed.
Imagine paying $70 for a game only for them to shut it down after a few years
This is why game preservation is so important, how will sony and the rest of these companies compensate players who paid full price? It's honestly shameful business from these corporates
Someone already made an offline saving patch for GT Sports a year ago or so, by illusion & Nenkai.
It's pretty fucking sad to think that if someone buys GTR2 now on steam they receive the game without every Ferrari and Porsche because they lost the licences, and that if you crank your old dusty copy you have access to all the cars. Pretty important too on that game when the Ferrari 550 GT1 was the quickest car on the game
Shutting down online servers for multiplayer is not an issue if there aren't enough people playing to support it however when you can no longer use the game even for single player that's another issue.
Instead of the BUY/PURCHASE button it should be LIMITED TIME LICENSE TO USE BUTTON. See what that does to sales.
Who is honestly modding save files on console for goodness sake. Yesterday I couldn't play career in Forza Motorsport due to bad internet. Free Play only.
In the early days pirating games was a problem for sure but the world has moved on and the vast majority do buy now but that's not enough. Now we lease them so we now really own nothing. Will pirating make a come back?
I have a problem with it, the game developers are getting more money from us & where owning games for ever decreasing amount of time. I don't see a issue with games that have a single player mode continuing on after the server is shutdown, the developer just needs to do a final update to code the game to save locally, cheating at this point I see as a non issue.
As far as a contract for the length of time for a car being used in a game, that applies to the developer selling that game, not the player playing the game.
Yea I don't get it, these companies no longer have to worry about distribution and shipping, prices should be going way down, no?
GT Sport is going to enable the campaign to be played off-line. Although, the campaign is pretty thin..
Not just campaign. It's literally only losing multiplayer and network functions like sharing liveries. It's not gonna be any different than any other GT game of the past.
Someone already made such patch for it a year ago. Search for Nenkai/Illusion GT Sport offline saving patch.
As long as only the multiplayer disappears, I don't really care.
There will come a day when Need for Speed 2015 will no longer be playable… 😢
Okay, it had its issues, but I loved it.
I stopped playing GT7 when I found out it was online only at launch. I skipped Forza. I'm not dealing with these trends. Single player career should never be tied to online.
And this is why I will never buy full price live service games such as The Crew series and Gran Turismo series (After Gran Turismo 6), cuase you will never know when will the servers be permanently shut down for good. The new Forza Motorsport is also a tragic cause they follow their rival Gran Turismo's full price live service trend, guess Forza Horizon 5 is still the best cause it's offline playable.
I was interested in The Crew Motorfest as it's on double discount in the Epic store. But when I saw The Crew's news of shutting down, I lost all my interest. I do own The Crew 2 which I bought for a bargain some time ago in Epic, and I guess it will only be a matter of time before it will also be shut down for good.
@@samwch16992 Lesson learn, full price games should be playable offline even if its meant for live service. Or if the full price game is live service only, avoid it at all cost.
@@PS5ProROGPhoneROGAllyuserany game that got online multiplayer dlc expansion packs and everything else is officially a live service game especially Tekken 7-8 sonic mania rocket league nickelodeon all star brawl 1&2 ctr nitro fueled 2k game's need for speed franchise GTA 4-6 and other games. So yeah it's something we just got to get used too because these consoles starting with the PS3 and crapbox 360 are live-service in-able consoles.
It's like companies want to force you to buy the same product over and over again with minimal effort put into them. 🤔
Understand your point and my biggest problem is that i spent money on the game. But i spent money on alot of stupid shit. That being said if anyone was playing these games they wouldnt shut them down.
tbh i dont mind gta using rip off cars, especially the newer cars still look and feel like the real life models, racing them still is alot of fun especially racing my dewbauchee specter (aston martin vantage) gt3 car
Piratism is best way preserve games
I've always purchased the physical disc copy of games I want to play, and have retained the system to play it on. It has served me well to this point, as when I want to play Colin McRae Rally, I pull out my trusty PS2. The same with Gran Turismo 4. However, that allows me to play games that don't have online content. If I stay with the PlayStation analogy, for Gran Turismo 5 onwards, game updates, patches and new content pose a real problem. If I wish to start a new game of Gran Turismo 6, for example, using a newly acquired secondhand PS3, I can put the disc in to start the game, but it's likely that the base vanilla game on the disc is all that can be played. Any new content or game fixes are unlikely to be available because it's a console that is two generations old. That bothers me. I am likely in the 5 per cent of gamers who access old games on superceded systems, but game archiving is important. If the online updates are unavailable, let alone the need to remain connected for the game to function (i.e. Gran Turismo Sport), then as the video states, that game is effectively dead and my disc copy becomes a very fancy drink coaster.
You can play ps2 and Ps3 games on pc via emulators and you can update games with free updates.
I paid $150 just to have them shut down the server in a year 😓 I don’t know if I’ll ever buy the next one unless my cars transfer over….
is the driving school still accessible after server shutdown?
You made the mistake of buying a gran turismo game, gt7 will be the same way. Don’t make the same mistake with gt8 or stop being surprised this keeps happening. Applies to all games it’s your fault
Amazing ✊🏽 🔥🔥🔥
What? Wait, I still have an unopened copy of The Crew for my Xbox One X and GT Sports on my PS4 Pro and you say I won't be able to play even the single player game after January respectively end of March 2024? That's a bummer! A big bummer!
The single player of GT Sport is not affected. However, The Crew will be completely unplayable. The video lacks the distinction between always online (The Crew) and online multiplayer (GT Sport).
I still have Forza 3 even though it was removed, I bought it from windows store.
I hope that licensed music is something that disappears soon. There is no reason to have an expiration date based on music that a hardcore user has turned off about a month after purchase. I listen to nothing or my own playlist once I've heard the in-game songs a couple hundred times or so. I am still trying to understand why there are timed contracts for detailed pictures of cars in a video game. Those cars aren't changing like some live service or NBA lineup. Capitalism is cancer.
GTA 4 is still available and online
Well there goes the hard earned money i spent on the crew 😢 give back my money or give us the crew motorfest for free
Except you're literally lying. First of all, GT Sport was never always online. You were always gonna be able to at least play it to a certain degree, as you were from the very first day the game was launched. Same with GT7.
Second of all, even when it shuts down they've already confirmed it's only losing multiplayer, sharing liveries online, and the mileage exchange thing. Other than that it will function exactly the same as any other GT game does
That isn't what always online is. Games like Destiny, Anthem, the Crew, Battleborn (already completely unplayable), the Division, that are LITERALLY UNPLAYABLE without an internet connection are what always online is. Those games can't be preserved once they shutdown, GT Sport isn't going anywhere. Hell, you'll even still be able to get the platinum trophy for the game assuming you already got the multiplayer trophies LOL
A game with online saves and local saves that even before shutdown were still playable let alone after shutdown being almost entirely playable IS NOT ALWAYS ONLINE.
By your logic, the entire Uncharted, Assassins Creed, Dead Space, Crysis, Killzone, and Resistance series (other than Uncharted 4) are always online too. Tell that to the many people still replaying those games to this day 🤣🤣
That's right. That distinction was missing in the video. As long as it's only the multiplayer that dies in a game, I don't really care. I don't use it anyway...
I love GT7 but I dont care about it when playing GT8
GT8 doesn't exist
I play GT7 and I love going back to playing to older GT games.
@@sonyx5332I got you but I would not
I really don’t have problem with this and I disagree that lifecycle of game is shorter now than it has been in the past. Games are bigger and bigger, took more time to develop and have longer lifespans, simply because it takes longer for next game to come out. GT Sport is more than 6 years old, that is definitely long enough lifecycle. Always online games are usually better protected against cheaters than offline games and I would take that trade any day in a week. BTW average age of man is around 70 years, do you realise that by your life you will be able to witness maximum of 10 games with lifecycle as long as GT Sport and then you will be dead?
I definitely have a problem with this and games definitely have shorter lifespans. NFS Most wanted is 18 years old and I can still load it and play the way I did 18 years ago if I ever have kids I can pass this game down to them and let them play it. However as I’ve gotten older I have less time to play video games and I actually haven’t played the crew 1 or GT Sport and unless I rush out and buy them right now I’ll never be able to play them and neither will any future generations. I don’t care much about multiplayer but I should atleast be able to play the single player of a game indefinitely.
Also multiple games come out every year so you will be able to witness a hell of a lot more than just 10 games with 10 year life cycles in your life time. It’s not like game devs wait till the end of a games lifecycle b4 they release a new game 😂🙄
@@racdude01 The time a game is alive is not the same time you can simply play it. Game is dead the moment its not updated and lose majority of player base. You can’t play any game indefinitely, you can only play it until you die, that was the point of pinpointing human lifespan. But if you like to ride nostalgic train a lot I get why its a problem for you to not be able to play decades old games. BTW what are you doing in NFS Most Wanted after 18 years? Playing it over and over looks more like a punishment than anything else to me.
Well i still play pes 2016 bcs it is Best pes for me also a lot of us still play gt4.
@@Heaven_Is_A_Wasteland That is your thing, Iam just saying that I have no problem moving from old games after 5+ years.
@@vvs6433 there is a huge modding community behind nfs most wanted so there is plenty of new ways to experience the game. Plus it will always exist for future generations to play. Perhaps you don’t know this but there was a time where games released and didn’t ever get updates because that wasn’t possible. Those games were not dead. A game no longer receiving support doesn’t make the game dead nor does the majority of a player base leaving make it dead. As long as a game can be played it isn’t dead. In 3 months the crew 1 will be dead and never to be played again and that game is barely 10 years old. The graphics still hold up today. Todays games look even better and because of that they should be able to be enjoyed for even longer since they won’t start looking dated like past games do but now we have arbitrary limits put on games because of always online requirements
Please delete all GT all forza and all other shit like that. How can an adult man spend any time in one of these titles made for kids using controller????
