Good tutorial. I've just gotten back in the game after a 7-year hiatus. Some things to note: You can also lock a selected target by just hitting Ctrl. There was a dev blog earlier today that they are going to change the recruitment rewards this coming Monday. I think the most important thing is that the new player gets a bit more Skillpoints to start with. Might be worth waiting until next week if you want the extra reward.
Actually, this is the first tutorial that helps. I'm complete beginner in this game and so far it has been nothing but a mixture of awe (wonderful graphics and depth of the game) and frustration (no sensible help for new players, I'm getting stuck with stupid things ). Great job, bud. Thanks to you I might actually stick around with EVE for a bit longer :)
Great video, but you forgot the #1 rule for playing Eve: go play something else. I'm kidding I love this game, I've got 3 mains and its pretty much constant fun.
Thank you so much for this! I have just started playing this game, and I felt I was missing a lot of information. Even though I have already done the tutorial, this guide covers so much more. I learned a lot! I had no idea that you could make those shortcuts like that. I also did not know you could target more than one thing at once. I already feel more confident of a player because of this :)
Starting empire will have an effect on what equipment and ships, and I think skill books, you are gifted during your career agent missions. I’d recommend to go ahead and pick the empire whose ships, weapons, and defense systems appeal to you. Although you can skill into anything from any empire (especially as an omega clone) it is easier to fly and acquire stuff from your own empire. Not a huge setback, but it does make some difference.

"Some" restriction for Alphas? Within 8 weeks, I started to bump heads with enough restrictions and limitations that I simply stop playing. EVE Online is definitely structured for pay to play. You don't last 17 years in the world of online gaming industry by being a free game.
@@wastedwatts its also literally part of almost all of the best games, you require membership to access multiplayer or online functions on Xbox, playstation also requires a membership for full access to everything, WoW, Rs3/OSRS, ect ect ect yet i just listed off the 2 prevailing consoles, and the 2 largest mmorpgs with 1-100 million players/ consumers :)
@@GasparHVK Best games? OK, I can imagine why your opinion is Best game, but there are a host of expensive games to play and I know of a few that are likely worse in cost to play than this one, but that doesn't mean I am going to pay out the nose to do so. Now that the world is suffering through a terrible virus and depression that will be called a recession by governments, I can imagine many have and will have to back off on the expensive games. They won't have the income to stay.
@@wattwaster5936 interesting theory. Have you checked on WoW subscription trends since covid hit? And if they deviated from the trends prior to covid hitting? pay2play, while not so common anymore these days, is what has allowed games such as WoW and EVE to remain alive for as long as they have. Honestly, I'd rather pay 10 or 15 bucks a month for a good game like EVE than be confronted with yet another 'free to play, oh btw we have L00TBOXES! AND SKINS! AND WEAPONS! AND ALL THE THINGS!' game.
Meh, for 13 years it was completely subscription-only with no way to play for free past the initial 2-week trial. I think what alphas can do is pretty substantial considering that, the biggest restrictions is with mining and the dumb 24-hour skill queue thing. Having to make sure every skill starts within 24 hours is annoying, if there's no huge skill you wanna train then you gotta log on every day to put in more, compared to a subscribed character that can go months of training without touching the game.
So excites for this serries since i literally started playing last night. Your tutorial vids for Stallaris console helped me love that game so i know these will do the same!
A little more info about weapons (this part that can be harder to understand if nobody explains it). Chances to hit a target are determined by : - the relative speed at wich the target is moving compared to your ship and the angle (a slow target moving at or close to 0 degree's compared to your ship's heading is easy to hit [the maximum relevant angle is 90 degree's, if the enemy get's behind you the angle is recalculated thoards 0, it doesn't go beyond 90 in the RNG mechanics], as the angle and relative speed increase, the chances to hit drop); -the target's size (smaller are harder to hit, larger are easier); your weapon's optimal range (Quill talked about this); - the size of your weapon (small/medium/large/XL) [small weapons have better hit chances but lower optimal range and base damage]; - the type of weapon used (some are used to take out targets at long range like railguns, artilery, beam lasers and torpedo's, others are meant for close range encounters like blasters, autocannons, pulse lasers, missiles and drones); tracking speed for turrets and explosion velocity for missiles; - various other factors that usualy mean the difference in battles once you have played this game a while and have a better grasp of it's mechanics (electronic warfare of all types and of course the players trained skills). Pure damage is masively influenced by using the right ammunition, but i think monsieur Quill might cover this in part 2 or 3. Keep in mind that most ammo's also modifiy your weapon's optimal and fall-off ranges (you can esentialy turn a long range weapon into a close range one by changing ammunition). There for, the chances to hit a target and how much damage you do with each hit are determined by a combination of all factors listed above. It's a little bit off-putting at first, but once you experiment a little and ask veteran players for help, new players should get a decent understanding of the fighting mechanics. And fighting is not even the biggest part of this game, so don't worry about it. You can mine, you can build, you can transport cargo, you can research and explore. Try anything and everything untill you find what suits you most. Damn it, i made a mess of this explanation....
@@99Pierogies well I didn't. I kept an eye out for anyone entering the system, or entering the belt I was in. Listened to local chat and talked to those in my Corp. I had too many times where I lost a ship to inattention to what was going on. Usually mined systems just into lo-sec or on the lowest Hi-sec settings. There are always players who like to pvp vs mining ships because they can get ore loot... usually they have a transport ship waiting to come in for it. New to your channel and Eve Online. Thanks for the clear and detailed tutorial. Love it!
it's (by far) the best eve tutorial I see until now. Thank you very much!
There was a dev blog earlier today that they are going to change the recruitment rewards this coming Monday. I think the most important thing is that the new player gets a bit more Skillpoints to start with. Might be worth waiting until next week if you want the extra reward.
On the other hand, remember that the sooner you make your account the sooner it can start to train skills.
Thank you bro its big help for me ... im in love with this game it will take a year to know a lot of things but this is the beauty of MMO
Played EVE a ton. Started in 2007. Still hyped for this video! :D
Love your pic :)
@@Just_lift_anyone damn straight! :D Everyone who knows what it is loves it ;)
@@ILOVESTARK I'm hearing those empty drive clicks from just looking at it :)
@@ILOVESTARK well for me it is more a Love/hate thing.
INSERT WORKBENCH 1.3 ah....memory lane.
I just KNEW Quill was a Gallente fan! G fo' life!
That moment when I just started playing this game a few hrs ago
thanks for this ., having a listen while starting up with the game. something i have looked at for many years but never given a go. here goes..... also did the recruit a friend for you
Skill gain is halved from alpha and omega clones so it is much slower if you dont have Omega
FYI:
The term ratting is an RPG phrase use to indicate repeated kill of an low lvl NPC to gain EXP or Gold. 1st used on the classic game Everquest.
Nice I was in your corp before, I love to see tutorials becose everyone has there own way of doing things 😃👍
Thank so very much; this is my first MMO; good, bad, indifferent I am
addicted to science fiction, I love me a spaceship,
build thousands in Galactic Civ II Dread Lords (and
still going strong on a 2006 XP); your tutorials may
have saved my future with EVE...fly safe my friend.
"Some restrictions to some of the things" HAHAHAHAHAHAHAAH
I think you basically hit the limit once you finish the tutorials and career agents right?
If it wasn’t for this mans tutorials I would have no idea how to play this game thank you so much man your a true legend!
Nice one Quill, you almost tempted me back! then i remembered it's ~$20/month (AUD) per account. #yeahno
You can now also play your old accounts for free in alpha clone mode.
You can play for free these days, with just a few restrictions.
@@quill18 yeah i downloaded the client and logged in. couldn't fly any of my T2/3 ships or modules . I'm guessing you could only run L2 maybe L3 missions on a alpha clone?
@@mallonox You can run a battleship with an alpha clone, so you should be fine to run L4s
@@erikkalkoken3494 cheers man
Thanks for this. I started up Eve last night and felt pretty confused. The UI is kinda overwhelming. Even though this isn’t like a quick, twitchy game I still felt too much pressure to learn all this stuff on the fly. Definitely needed some more context for how this game works. Lol
"Some" restriction for Alphas? Within 8 weeks, I started to bump heads with enough restrictions and limitations that I simply stop playing. EVE Online is definitely structured for pay to play. You don't last 17 years in the world of online gaming industry by being a free game.
Unfortunately, this is what keeps me and I would bet others from playing.
This is a really good walkthrough. The UI looked pretty daunting, but your explanation made it seem very simple.
Once you start, you never quit EVE. You only take a break.
You're goddamn right. [/Walter White]
So excites for this serries since i literally started playing last night. Your tutorial vids for Stallaris console helped me love that game so i know these will do the same!
"im so entertained by this fella" i love it
You have a good set of strategy games on your videos, no wonder I fall in love with civ 6.
Oh shit fam, one of us, one of us!
hey i watch all your tutorials and decided to give EVE a go and yes i really am enjoying it, (first day today) thanks for the bonus skill points :)
Oh hey you're playing something interesting again
Keep in mind that most ammo's also modifiy your weapon's
optimal and fall-off ranges (you can esentialy turn a long range weapon into a close range one by changing ammunition).
This is such a pro gamer bro moment
I just did these tutorial missions. You pointed out some interface stuff I hadn't noticed, or didn't know. Good info.
I just love the mining
always my favorite way to play
how do you not get bored? do you just watch Netflix while you mine?
@@99Pierogies well I didn't. I kept an eye out for anyone entering the system, or entering the belt I was in. Listened to local chat and talked to those in my Corp. I had too many times where I lost a ship to inattention to what was going on. Usually mined systems just into lo-sec or on the lowest Hi-sec settings. There are always players who like to pvp vs mining ships because they can get ore loot... usually they have a transport ship waiting to come in for it. But that is me, others may do the netflix thing. They are also the ones whining in forums about losing their ships to the gankers.
Hah! Your guide just made my day... you are so easy to listen. Thank you so much, I might even try this game just cus of you... Good job!
EVE makes me too tense - but I'll watch you play it, lol
dammit, now I want to play :)
Lol
I used to play this right before all the new updates came out. Need to get back in now that I have a computer that can handle it again, and that I have a trustworthy guide with Quill!

he was in the air force?
i have sacrificed a digital hamster named Hammy for you lol good tutorial. i have been looking into this game on Steam and after watching. I have decided to download it. Good job on this overview! You can use the virtual hamster to grease a moving part on your ship if its needed to lubricate said part until you get back to a home station to get ship properly fixed:) Virtual hamsters are useful in a pinch LOL!
