Nice clean and fast video. Direct to the point. Good job!
Thank you 100 times for talking slower than Louis 👍🏻
I can do minor level repairs and drive replacements to my 2012 MBP, but I cringe if I am up against board level stuff. Paying someone with the correct tools, parts and expertise is a bargain.
I find the 1466 MBA the easiest to work on, they are grateful to get some flux, a little TLC, and put in the hot-tub for cleaning and will boot 98% after that.
Hi Al, could you please tell me where you can buy the stuff to fix this issue i have a 1465 macbook air with no backlight? Logic Board 820-3435
B
GOOD job may i ask what microscope r u using :) ?
I tried this. My first attempt. I blew 3 capacitors and a tan coloured thing that looked like a capacitor while seating the driver chip. I only found the tan one. I'll get a donor board from ebay. What tips can you give to not blow them away again? Also, there is a pad missing on the bottom right of the board's chip area, the exact one you say to test continuity. How can I fix it? Cheers.
I’m having this same problem. When I shine a flashlight through the Apple logo I can see the display, and it’s making noise so I know it’s something to do with the backlight. Could this be my problem? And do you know how much this would cost to fix? I live in the US
What did you do to fix it? Please reply
@@Indianajajsj It is still sitting in my closet not working. Repair shops want 800 dollars to replace a logic board just for a backlight so at this point I will just get a new one. Never buying apple again
@@dsrt65 Oh dear. I have just submitted mine for repair today. Incase it gets fixed I'll let you know then. And if I get it fixed for a small amount i shall let you knw. And also I can tell you what exactly is the problem. And if you can get it done from any repair store.
@@Indianajajsj Hi, what happened to your repair? Did they change screen or motherboard? I am having the same issue. Thanks
well done. Very clear explanation. Simple and to the point. Cheers.
You are just awesome👏, any idea what should be the price of the LP8552 chip?
It's around $2
could use some help, when i opened my macbook air, to give it an alcohol wash, i noticed the feedback trace you pointed out next to the chip that reads 150 441 5bb is missing/burned away. not sure what to do from there, or where it leads, do i need to solder a jumper wire? if so, to where?
Rookie question: I’m just curious but does the orientation of the chip matter at all? Just trying to expand my knowledge. Thanks 😊
Yes absolutely. Dot goes at pin 1
@@TCRSCircuit good to know! Thanks for getting back to me
Could I have the name/number for the capacitors to the right of the IC, the one you fix on minute 3:59 of the video and the one parallel to it please.
Liking the new intro! Looks slick
I agree totally!
I do have a A1502 with No Backlight issue but works fine with an external monitor. DO u recommend to check on pointers as mentioned in your video.?
My feedback trace is completely black as you mentioned it might be. Any ideas on how to fix it? Would greatly appreciate any help. Thanks!
Hi I have the same issue in my macbook air 2017 and if you can help me repair it I would be very thankful. If you can instruct me how can i send it to you via postal service or courier options.
How much it cost you
What I do not get is, when you apply all that solder flux , it overflows to other nearby circuits harboring capacitors. The heat gun heats up the backlight chip space to melt the solder and loosen the chip. But it also heats up the nearby capacitors space. So, are you not affecting the capacitor negatively, or even causing it loosen its contact to the logicboard, or the heating damaging the capacitor? The only thing I can think of is there is a temperature difference in the melting points of the solder used to place the capacitor to that used to place the backlight chip. Plz explain
The capacitor is not affected negatively at all by the heat. Surface tension holds in place so it will not lose contact with the board. The melting points are different due to pad size. Large pad size = longer time to desolder.
Been a while since I have been here... Loving the new introduction 👍
Hey man how much do you think this would cost to fix? If I was to go to someone. I have this issue right now with my Mac.
I can't speak for other shops, but we charge $250 for this model MacBook Air and offer nationwide mail in services. www.tcrscircuit.repair
Can I use any flux to clean the board?
I have bean trying to see what was wrong with my moms macbook air for a few years so thank you for making this video!
What is the brand-name of the flux that you use? Thank you 😌
nice job, thanks for sharing you knowlegde, I have a question, did you reuse de chip or it is new, where did you got it?, thanks a regards.
New chips, always. Mouser.com for the backlight driver
@@TCRSCircuit thank you very much, good day!
Good Morning
How much did the Chip including the tools cost ?
I found a MacBook Air just like yours and i wanna try it once 😁
Chip? $2. Equipment? $5K minimum.
Not more than 200 euros.
Without a microscope.
@@vandehoek Very untrue. The hot air station alone costs more than $200.
@@TCRSCircuit Cost me 75 euro.
@@vandehoek Cheap equipment sure, however cheap equipment will not cut it for these boards!
I got my macbook fixed.
The issue was same- Dim screen.
But after getting it fixed, when i adjust brightness it flickers on each step of brightness level.
Is it normal after this repair?
Yes.
How much does it cost to fix the backlight
Great work. I'm a wedding DJ and had a less-than-sober guest spill onto my 2015 MacBook air. My machine miraculously is alive, but with same no backlight diagnosis but picture is present. Would this fall under "logic board repair" in regards to pricing on your site, i.e. $249?
That is correct.
Got the same issue. Fix the Backlight driver chip - same problem. You got a tip for me? Wich temperature are you using? Got 365°Celsius at 70 (quick)
Did you check the feedback trace like I showed? 430C and 120 airflow on my quick
I will check today, you mean pin 5 to the check point?
@@moskito2010 yes
God in a mess! I have no schematic from the f******* board.
I have 8V on the Backlight output. I have no idea witch component created the 20 volts for Backlight. Can you help me please?
@@moskito2010 The LP8550 does. you probably have a broken feedback trace. rewatch the video and check the feedback line to D7701
TCRS do I have to replace the chip or can the same chip be used if damage is not major
Do not reuse the old chip. It will be destroyed. It is a $2 chip.
@@TCRSCircuit could you give me the name of the exact chip so i could buy it
@@Patrickgoat LP8550
what a video bro doing good man there sitting
Nice Video , had same problem, got it fixed here
How much does it cost, I have same issue of backlight
@@lalitsaran2051 About Rs.3500 they just replace the IC
I have the same problem with my 2014 Macbook Air. I got it with the screen just like this by the owner for free. He spilled coffee on it. The screen shows up, but no backlight. How much is this charge to replace this..right now I am using this mac just as an external monitor.
I’m having the same issue with spilled drink, how much should I expect to pay for repair if I take it to a local US shop?
I don’t have the tools on me to do it myself 🤦♂️
Are you in the US?
SAME!
Nice video thanx men
Thank you ☺️ 🌞
Can I send u a board with this same issue
Absolutely. As long as you are in the US and send the full unit. www.tcrscircuit.repair
Excellent and i agree right to the point 👍
Oh wow i thought its a lose/broken mini cable thing, its a whole chip😮.
It's a 2013 Macbook air 11 inch
Where to buy this new chip ?
Please, tell me if you know by now. Thanks
very cool intro
Finally getting the marketing down I see. It’s all about a good thumb nail!
fantastic!
nic vid thx
I dropped my macbook and now my backlight does not work, i checked the lvds connector and it seems fine. What could be the problem? Thank you
With it being dropped it could be a bad display or maybe a shorted output capacitor on backlight output on the board.
@@TCRSCircuit @TCRS Circuit The display is showing an image so is it possible the backlight component of the display is the only thing faulty. Whereabouts is the output capacitor roughly 2013 model? Thank you!
@@joshuamiller75 There are many output capacitors. You will need to diagnose it, however you really need to practice on something else before attempting to do board repair on your machine.
ok sir
Marvellous
This sounds like Luis Rosman
What phone is that mate??
BlackBerry Keyone. I love it
Louis sent me
Can some one help me out! i have a 2012 macbook and it doesnt dim, when i get halfway along the dim scale it turns the screen completely off completely.
does anyone know what the problem is?
thanks
Could be screen or board. I'd put my bets on a dead backlight boost driver on the board though.
@@TCRSCircuit well that sucks! i guess i just wont use the dim function then!
@@TCRSCircuit Man, where can I buy this new piece "backlight chip" online? In addition, applyed fluid & other great stuff.
@@johnj9976 Mouser or digikey has them. The liquid is flux. However if you do not know these things already then you need to practice on some dead boards before you attempt on your own or a customers board. Buy a soldering setup, and practice on some junk boards before trying this particular repair.
The junk is apple for allowing such incredible dumb defective background lights and they only repair two models from 2016 with this issue at no charge lol
Different issue that what was seen in the video.
