Don't do it this way, get a puller. And don't use steering wheel lock to remove the center nut you can breaker the lock do it this way, To remove the nut first turn the key to unlock the steering wheel.

Dude, I love you. The only thing that worked after the bolt snapped off from the puller.
It helps when you are in a jam. Puller is always the best way to go.

Thats the way to destroy steering column internals, always use a puller

Does this work for a square body 79?
It should work on any steering wheel as long as the column is in good shape. Just be careful with the threads on the steering shaft.
