Very technical and likely informative for film school grads. Too technical for me, I missed the implications of much of what you said. I need the 'Citizen Kane 101' version.
Great video. I get the feeling that the shot of Xanadu being built, with the workman in the foreground and the truck and building in the back was not a stop-motion shot with the models...more like the truck was just slowed down.
look for this book - it's very in depth with lots of history - there's an updated version with LOTR's Gollum on the cover - "Special Effects: The History and Technique Book by Richard Rickitt"
Superb overview of the cinematography. I agree with others that the music is too loud. But I will add that maybe your lackluster, nasaly, almost weed head-like narration was more distracting than the music. I suggest those with similar vocal narration issues, and desires to be taken seriously, hire or get a friend to narrate.
Wow! Thanks for pointing out all of this, didn't realize at ALL how fantastic the production was. So impressive.
The music is fine and not even that loud. Why is everyone complaining?
Because it's too loud and doesn't fit.
That shot at 4:21 is amazing. That room is so huge its almost funny.
Thank you and well done sir.
Still have the DVD.
Still a masterpiece even to this day.
Dope video
Wonderful except for the music which fights with the interesting commentaries.
Well done analysis, narration, and production.

Impressive!!!
How do content creators not realize that the music in their videos are too damm loud? Do you not watch it before you upload?
Thanks for posting this.

Lovely thanks for sharing!!
Thank you for making this! I learned from it
You're welcome. I'm glad others are able to benefit.
great breakdown man! learned so much, do you have any other resources about the fx and creative limitations used in citizen kane? thanks Denny!
Great video! Thanks!
This is great!
Amazing
turn down the music
The first time a shot like this was done is in 1941 Citizen Kane
It was NOT "Tolin", but Toland !
amazing video
Where can I find a book(s) / film about the making of this film which goes into detail about techniques used?

Lose the godawful and distracting music.
