    I just wanted to thank you guys for trying to keep your info as accurate as possible. Lot of other MH channels, while they aren't trying to spread misinformation or anything, speak in broad and generic terms, really avoiding the point of the video (understanding the underlying mechanics). I like how you guys get into the nitty gritty and don't shy away from getting as granular as possible so we can optimize our builds and play accordingly.

    I got it! You start with a poison glaive with a paralysis kinsect, and a sleep weapon on your palico. After the elder dragon runs away to rest, yous switch to a blast glaive and blast bug to get several blast procs and do the most damage fast

    Having to explain Poison damage is the equivalent of explaining how magnets works on a scientific level.
    We pretty much know how it works... but depends a lot on context and its applications are quite useful and straight forward (intuitively understood).
    However, what we know on them is based on observations and having to explain the fundamental inner working of those makes us cringe because of all the assumptions we have to make...
    Poison weapons... how do they work?

I was thinking if submitting it to Arekkz's Mix Set Mondays or something, but I brushed it off assuming if I made something that efficient that easily, many others already have and probably have done better variations. 😅 But I do love running it against Kushala and Teo/Luna because Flashpods don't work anymore and getting about 1 KO per minute is ridiculous. I was told to use Jho LBG, but I found it less fun and less effective. After making a couple friends try my setup, they agreed mine was a lot funner to run.
      Not the fastest kills, but the KO-Lock is insane for multiplayer, having others able to constantly beat on a wounded face or whatever they need.
      I hadn't looked up Sticky LBG's, and I haven't since because I'm fine with mine. I tried to use 3 piece Nargacuga, but the cut in what I needed for the build was too much.

    I've been curious if a build like this would ever in any situation actually be optimal or worth the trouble of doing: Use some weapon with hidden poison + Namielle set bonus + non-elemental boost. You do fast combo attacks to proc the set bonus and inflict poison, you let it wear off and do bigger motion value attacks and get the non-elemental bonus until it is time to start trying to inflict poison again, repeat.

    • @tylercafe1260
      @tylercafe1260 5 лет назад

      I didn't finish the video yet but if they didn't mention poison duration up then there is absolutely no point to this video. Poison Duration up is almost a 50% increase on time. 13 ticks to 24 or even 32 on certain monsters so like 40 x 24 = 960 damage per proc which can get to 4 procs if it's a long hunt.

    • @actuallogic6411
      @actuallogic6411 5 лет назад +1

      That was technically covered in the Status video.
      It was stated that due to the threshhold increases to reapply statuses, you are not very likely to gain additional procs. So investing in status attacks will nake you deal statuses faster, but breaching the 5th proc is still a longshot.
      There wasn't anything about poison duration up of course - but you are electing to use Rath/Pink Rath armor, so it's easy to assume that you're losing out on damage

  • @Secret_Takodachi

    Considering how many variables are involved in simply calculating the "uptime" of poison procs alone: I CANNOT understand anyone criticizing your work without providing their own documentation to refute your claims.
    Calculating "uptime" & the effectiveness of poison vs. statuses like blast when fighting solo vs. how effective ailments are in a group is a MASSIVE challenge even if you have access to all relevant data values in the game's code.
    ESPECIALLY because the human element (aka the player) is not really a quantifiable variable due to the gap between the "worst" & "best" players being so large. Along with the variability of status effectiveness due to different monster weaknesses there's more than enough factors to make exact calculations impossible to precisely compute: the best case scenario is what you detail with your explanation of the "trends" that the math reveals & how those trends can/should be interpreted/acted upon.
    So TLDR: Great work as always even though I'm writing this comment so late I'm still referencing your videos while I attempt to take down Fatalis because I need every single potential avenue for increased damage I can get 😅

  • @SpikeShadowhunter
    @SpikeShadowhunter 5 лет назад +5

    I understand that you to assume a lot during this video but I do think you didn't get the multiplayer part right
    1) 6 pois proc x hunts is just unreasonable... You will just get faster times by mixing stuff up because poison weapon "lose" their element while the poison is active.
    2) The % damage each player have to do in multiplayer is correct but also unreasonable
    You can assume each player have to do 62.5% damage only in organized speedrun teams with a lock control tactic
    In the real more realistic casual world the monster will ALSO move a lot more due to having 4 targets and only the heaviest main weapon will end up hitting the weakest spot every time and it is not even guaranteed (not even accounting for ally flinches, weapon type and a lot more quest RNG)
    3) The way you calculated pois damage in multiplayer is just incorrect when accounting for multiple people running poison
    Poison damage does not scale with player numbers and so more profs just means... More procs...
    If a monster has 20K hp in solo and 50K in 4P... 6 pois procs will deal 3800 damage that is like 13% of the monster Hp... Meanwhile every weapon sacrificed % damage to run poison... And 6 pois procs again are just not realistic to get in hunt that is not a complete garbage
    You are better run only 1 poison weapon that will get 1-3 poison proc x hunt and use resources elsewhere
    4) I know you didn't account for decay time and attack speed... But this is kinda necessary to do... By using your math a pukei weapon in MP deals more damage than the acidc glavenus one... Yea... Not happening
    The slower the weapon the less effective status is because monster will generally have more time to let the status decay
    At the same time faster weapons like DB are just better with element
    5) Creating openings especially in MP is more important that you may actually think and is not a game of chance that from the first MH every single competitive multiplayer run uses a status Gunner o some guy that heavenly sacrifice damage to apply status control
    When you play multiplayer, with all the extra RNG related to that, every extra opening a weapon can create is a HUGE opportunity for EVERYONE to hit the monster for free
    This means that the more the monster is immobile and immobilized the less the quest time is
    That also translate in less poison procs
    6) Creating opening my mixing elemental / status and raw is even better in casual hunts...
    Generally speaking casual player will end up hitting the part of the body that is "safer" to it or at least the one that they have the opportunity to hit
    You will not find casual Hunters that play around positioning, a thing you can expect a speedrunner to do instead
    Elemental damage is better when hitting part that are not weak zoned (this is true for basically every weapon against almost every monster... You have also to account that the part is not guaranteed to be tenderized and the possibility for wex to activate or not)
    Damaging status is always good because status application is hotzone value indipendent and control status is just always really good for creating opening
    Also every player that has played the game will learn how to use openings
    So leg trip, para, sleep, traps etc... Can increase the damage more than poison. I mean. How much damage you gain for tripping the monster and having 4 player hitting for free 1 or 2 extra times? How much for para/sleep/ko? I bet is more that 520
    Yes you will lose damage for hitting the legs or running a para weapon but casual player will do that anyway.
    All this to say that suggesting or blindly saying that 4 poison weapon are good to run in MP is just untrue, and I'm not saying that is bad... But there are so many more optimized or better choices to make that I would not suggest status stacking ever
    7) 1-5% extra true raw or element never decays / lose effectiveness and it is not rng indipendent.
    Once again, assumption can be done but the real game has so much more situation you have to account especially for multiplayer run
    Also Single player poison math is correct but again poison do not create openings and the poison procs x hunt are just too diverse from run to run also changing from weapon to weapon at the highest weapon. Same as before even creating 1 extra opening is a huge efr increase and here we have to divide casual from runners.
    Tl;Dr do not status stack ever --> there are so many better option to mix things up even in casual runs
    And please do not take strong position when there are a lot of variables. Even if the math is correct it can never be applied 1:1 in the real game because there is just too many variables and rng that is only multiplied in MP especially with 4 people

    • @SpikeShadowhunter
      @SpikeShadowhunter 5 лет назад

      @@godhi4515 I just said that in the real world you can't calculate most of this stuff because it is hidden behind a huge amount of RNG and variables
      You can make estimates and their estimates are indeed correct, but are just that
      When you see real hunts things don't really work like that
      For the trip
      The extra trip can be caused by using alternative higher elemental or raw option, because they ARE sacrificing actual monster body damage when using poison weapon
      The pukei comparison was just an exaggeration to explain why the MP math was not correct
      You can make a spreadsheet and math it out, the result would be that in MP a pukei weapon is better than acidic glavenus that is just incorrect

    Two questions because i'm not sure I understood:
    With downtime being better than uptime, is it safe to assume the set bonus Rathian Essence which increases poison duration up is a bad thing?
    Are dualblades bad for poison since they hit more often and have less downtime between damage?

    • @alishanagy9595
      @alishanagy9595 4 года назад

      I'm not 100% sure I understand the numbers myself, I was more focused on learning the concept since I play solo lance and VERY occasionally with a single friend. But IF I understand it right: downtime making poison stronger just means that the less you hit the monster, the better a poison option is compared to a raw option. Poison still does just as much damage if you have high uptime, it's just not as big a difference in usefulness because a larger percentage of your damage comes from actually hitting the monster. MR Rathian Essence can still a very attractive option if the testing+math of another commenter here is accurate. HR version is trash due to how little effect it has, but MR basically doubles the duration, which means that the higher your downtime (a monster that moves too much, or flies out of reach a lot) the better it can be. Note that this was against a 3star weak monster in Iceborne, not sure if it has different effects on lower weaknesses or in base World at the current version. But if you can hit the monster often enough to proc poison as often as is reasonable, the set bonus is probably not that useful, because it'll probably spend roughly the same amount of time being poisoned. The main point of the set bonus is essentially that you don't have to deal with as high of a threshold, due to fewer procs raising it. So basically the usefulness of the set depends on whether the lower threshold would mean the monster spends more time being affected by poison.
      This is basically the same situation with weapon choice. DBs are still a good choice for poison if you're using GRath since their raw is still good, it's just not AS BIG of a difference in damage output compared to other weapons. But it again depends on whether you're able to hit the monster consistently, so if you can't hit it often then having it take damage anyway due to being poisoned can be very helpful.
