I continue to watch this series and just when I think I couldn't be more impressed with your skills and knowledge, I'm proven wrong as soon as your next video comes out. You are a true master of your trade. I'm sure thousands of us appreciate these videos more than you'd ever believe. Thank you for doing this,
@@ApesterA if this car can do some good for others then it's worth every bit of heartbreak it causes on this side!
Even though some replacement parts are better than others. You may have reached the point where a large parts order is in your future. So many of those panels are screwed up. Enjoyed the video and high to Daisy.
I commented in the short video on this issue but i really feel you buddy, that hacker was a complete moron. Your attention to detail gets my total respect.

@@peterantonopoulos2572 excellent cheers 🥂
I was just about ready to comment on the cowl. I had a 66 fastback I restored back in the 80s. Got it all done, interior, carpet windshield back in. Went to wash it and found a large puddle of water on the new carpet. The fresh air vents under the cowl were rusted out and I never saw it. I ended up pulling the windshield out, hood and fenders off, cut the cowl off and fixed it. What a pain! Good job so far Sir! 👍
There definitely a pain and we knew it had a few pinholes inside but dang at the mess, hopefully this is close to the end of surprises on this one.

This car is a good example of taking it to a shop for inspecting before buying. I'll bet the previous seller would've said no, unless they didn't know the extent of the hack job? I'm frustrated for you, you were right at the very beginning of this series about using a better car to build from. I have a tremendous amount of respect for you and your patience. If any consolation, I'm extremely interested in how you tackle the issues going forward, as well as other viewers I think. Thank God there is honest people like you. Keep up the good work. God will reward you for what you do. Love your shows.
I appreciate that
My 69 needs the outer frame rail on the passenger side because the nuts were corroded so bad one fell off and the other stripped while it was being removed. They sell those parts. I haven't even looked at the cowl yet but there is a reason the floor is rusted under the driver side. I'm just working from front to back. I got a core support and a fender apron for the driver side coming today. The outer frame rail is on back order. Once i get that lined out, i can move to the cowl and the floor. The windshield has to be replaced because it looks as though it took a pretty direct hit from a large hail stone. I want my car safe a driveable. Im not looking to restore it to showroom. Just enough to make it worth it to the next guy or whoever ends up with her. She's mine now though and I'm gonna do my best. I will be able to drive her. I got plenty of time to do right by her.

You are doing a good service to get the word out about hack shops. I think the fee to inspect a potential purchase is well worth it.
Absolutely unless you're familiar with what your buying
I always start with an inspection of the cowl on any Mustang, Falcon or Comet - perfect example as to why a boroscope is a good tool to have! It's a really bad OE design as leaves, pine needles and other crap accumulates in side corners of the cowl and rots it out.
The worst deserves the best you got it man you are areal professional.😊.

This car is borderline on being Criminal!! For someone to put this together and sell it knowing that level of "workmanship" was involved shows the simply wanted money for a rusted out shell.
Filled with Bondo, Kitty hair, silicone and "booger welds" then painted "Resale Red" , they no doubt pressured your customer into purchasing that POS! Such lines as, "Buy It now or you'll miss out because so many others are interested" or "Have you ever seen such an original car as this?"
There is no excuse for the failures made building this car.
But we all know the reason why - GREED!

Just been disappointed the whole time lol I've not seen one thing where I could say that's was a decent job on it
I love 65/66 mustangs. The inner cowls are almost always rusted out. Ive enjoyed watching you repair this monstrosity of “restoration”. BTW RUclips keeps unsubscribing me, I’ve had to resubscribe several times.
Cowl rust has always been a issue with classic Ford's just a bad design but it can be fixed. Unfortunately that's a big deal with RUclips they remove subscribers sometimes
I agree with your initial assessment of re-body. That’s a lot of work, but hey, that’s one more Mustang that will be back on the road. Kudos for sticking through it. With all that hackjob bodywork, be sure to go through the suspension and brakes. I’m sure they probably aren’t much better. Like a train wreck that you can’t look away from, I look forward to each next video on this car. Lol

@@HotRodGuyGarage I don’t doubt you knowing what you’re doing. I’ve never come across a mess like you’re dealing with. An unfortunate situation that has led to a great series for the world to see what it takes to bring a car back from the brink.

@@HotRodGuyGarage looks like it was precisely done. Nice work!
Heyyyy. Gday
The surprises haven't stopped! 😆
To take the tools away, you would probably have to go to see about 10 people that have hacked on that car over the years, probably starting around 1975.
About 90% of this was done at its last doll up session I'm certain the lack of corrosion on welds is clue #1 I'm sure it has a past before that point but a lot of this hacked mess is recently done
I'm so glad you are saving this Mustang but I have to agree with you, it should have been scrapped. After all your hard work, your customer will have a nice Stang!
Onward and upward
But it has a pretty air cleaner, valve covers, and plug wires. 😄 hopefully, whomever built the car didn't build the engine. Good job saving the car. I've seen cars with all these type of "repairs" but rarely do you get all of them on one car.
The entire car has been a great example of what not to do
I don't know what the owner told you about the history of this car, but if you pulled the fenders to start with you likely would not have taken this job. You are a patient and determined man.
At the beginning there was no reason to pull them it's just evolved way beyond fixing the major safety items and now the whole car is a major safety problem 😔
“We are almost done fixing it and it’s still not worth fixing.” You need to put that on a shirt. 😊
The last car I saw like that was my girlfriend’s Mustang in high school. It was painted red as well.
Your probably right 😆
This is a 60year old car but the last owner should have restored it right. There should be a clause (or law against flippers ) about safety issues that should have been restored. These issues are all over the used car market. You are the restorer you ll make it right

It sure is , and sounds like you turned your Camaro around into a good car
Mustangs have captivated enthusiasts with their enduring timeless style since day one. This has also made them a prime target for unscrupulous hackers who know that most buyers just look for shiny paint. Probably the majority of Mustangs have some cheap body work or structurally dangerous short cuts. It almost doesn't matter if it is a cheap Mustang or an expensive Mustang - if you don't do (or pay for) a thorough inspection, then don't be surprised when you later find booger welds and super thick bondo. Except for the Hot Rod Guy Garage using this Mustang for a video series, even he has said this Mustang would have been better as a parts car rather than receiving this body restoration (which would easily be ~ $30k or more in most shops).
It would easily
In many of the 'flipper hack job' Mustangs I see online they are looking at bodged repairs typical of what was done decades ago when they were nothing but used cars owned by teenagers and such. I would find all sorts of things looking at Mustangs and other Fords that were for sale back in the 80s and 90s. It's that nobody ever addressed them, fixed them properly in the years since.
But then there are cars like this one that are true flipper hack jobs. Recent work done horribly.
Hopefully the owner plans to keep the car for a long time. The amount of money spent to buy this hack job, plus all of your labor and parts, has made the car unsellable at this point. Great job repaiting all of the garbage work! You are getting closer to the end, cant wait to see it completed!
He plans on leaving it to his grandkids so it needs to be safe!
10 to 1 none of his grandkids could care less about it. He should have a serious talk with them, if none of them wants it, he can think of someone else who may like to have it, and has the money to keep it up.
I knew you would find more surprises on the front end of that car! What I really don't understand is why would someone NOT fix it correctly the first time they fixed it!!! It seems to me that it would take more time and effort to to fix it poorly than to to do it correctly!!! I am surprised that the further you go into this car, the worse it gets!!!
It's always cheaper and easier to fix something right the first time
Just wondering if u have any concern with the 1k transtar primer as a base.

The really bad flipper put bondo on the frame rails some also made a convertible out of a coup(which doesn’t have all the frame structure for the convertible)when you put it on the lift the car sags(The convertible Mustang has extra stiffeners that coup does not)
I've seen that before on a few cars in the past

Yup, you can count on those bumper bracket frame rail internal nuts breaking loose, and a square cut out of the frame for access to weld them back on not happening when it came to whoever had the car before. Probably just as well because they wouldn't have welded the piece back in and just left an open hole in the frame rail instead. Those early one piece cowls were a terrible design, my 69 Mach 1 had the bolt on upper cowl for easy access to the lower cowl, but it was rust free there anyway.
