One of the most frequently asked fly fishing questions, asked by beginner and experienced anglers alike is, "How do I find new places to fly fish?" Today, we will take you along on a fly fishing trip to a river we have never fished before in Wyoming. Watching this heading into a 10 plus day heat wave of 110 degree heat here seems like a very good idea. Fly fishing is great for my mental health. Extreme heat...not at all! Thanks for this.
Yeah I don't handle the heat well, haha. It hit 100 here in my corner of Wyoming last week, and I told my wife we're moving to Prince of Wales Island, in Alaska, because I can't deal with the heat! It hits -30 here in the winters and I don't mind that at all.
One of my favorite videos yet fellas! I’m with Alex, winter is great for tying flies and bragging about all the fish you’re going to catch… in June😉
That was very well produced! I love that alex finally got his cutty at the end haha! Great job guys!
Thanks man! Yeah, it was vindication for him, and all the crap that I talked, haha.
As a Ute fan, I was not prepared for the Austin Collie quote applied to fishing. 😂
YES!! You have no idea how excited I am someone got that 😂
😂😂😂 I’m with ya. Go Utes! - Alex
Love these videos, feel free to post more videos of you guys fishing I'd like to see more
We really appreciate that! More stuff is definitely in the works!
Excellent video. Good to see you guys out there doing what you love.
Thanks!
Very well done, thanks for posting guys !
I really enjoyed this one. Really enjoyed the playful nature and how it displayed what a real day on the water is often like. Didn’t feel scripted or super edited.
Same thinking here. It's a nice change of pace compared to the highly edited stuff on YT
100% agree
Love this river! I lived out there all last summer and still live in the area. Favorite fishing spot!
I love these fishing adventure videos
We really appreciate that!
Cold or not, it still looks like you guys had a fun time. I know I'd have fun fishing with you two.
We did! It was one of the best days I've ever had in the winter. But fishing with me is a chore, I'm kinda high maintenance. Just ask Alex!
@@SpencerDurrant Lol, I'd put up with ya.
Good video. Where did you get your camp hoodie?
Glad you liked it. Free Fly Apparel. Love their hoodies.
What river is this? I’m just entering Wyoming today.
Good video. How is fly fishing going during the summer if you guys went yet?
It's been fantastic!
@@SpencerDurrant I'm glad to hear that.
Hi, watching your beginner series. It’s been great and helped me start these past couple weeks. Do you think you could do an episode covering how to care for your fly kit?
Do fly lines need cleaned or not?
Daily clean after use?
Clean for end of season?
How do you store them?
Should you oil your reel frequently?
Any tips for not losing the tippet when you store your reel?
How to store fishing kit en route to location?
Do you need to use dressings on your rod?
It would be extremely helpful for myself and I’m sure many others. Not many people seem to cover rod reel maintenance, and after just spending a lot of money on a set up I want to be able to maintain it to make it last.
Hope you see this
Thanks
Duncan (Scotland)
Hey Duncan, thanks for watching!
We've tackled those topics a bit on our podcast (Untangled: Fly Fishing for Everyone) but we can answer some of them here, too.
Fly lines should be cleaned at least twice a year, or more if you get them really dirty. Lines are fine to be stored on the reel, and you don't need to oil your reels. We always keep our rods in their tubes while traveling to fish, and no dressings are needed on the rod.
Let us know if you have any other questions!
@@venturesflyco that’s perfect thank you so much for the help!
13:25 Must of been a 29'' 🦫beaver!😂
😂😂😂 100% truth
Hi Guys. I have watched the whole series and loved it. I'm in Tasmania (The Island state of Australia), and in our winter months (May, June, July), we have a closed season for trout. That doesn't seem to be the case for you guys? Do USA states have closed fishing season on inland waters? Regards from down under.
Thanks for watching! It depends on the state. Some streams in Montana, for example, do close during the winter. But most states in the Western US allow for year-round angling.
Come down to CO and chase some fish with me once this high water relaxes!
I've been banned from fishing in Colorado. Too many jokes about them on the podcast, 😂
@@SpencerDurrant They probably arent jokes, but harsh truths lol.
Just leaving CO after a month here. Lakes fishing great, rivers are all blown out still.😢
Ok but did Spencer get you that burrito?
yo sweet vid! Just put up my newest vid fly fishing shad on the umpqua, big inspo 🙏
🤙🏽🤙🏽🤙🏽
How much time filming do you have to do to edit down to a 20 minute video? Just curious how long you fish in a day to get the video.
This was an entire day of filming (8 am to 5 pm plus driving). There is a lot of dead time, a lot of footage of us just casting, sometimes the fish don’t cooperate. Haha.
@@venturesflyco I figured it took several hours to get the footage to edit and see you and Spencer catch fish after fish. I always wished I could pull them out that fast. A day on the water and I may only net 2 fish.
How is public access in Wyoming?!
Idaho is being choked out by outsiders buying land and then denying access to us locals.
There's still pockets but it's getting frustrating!!
Idaho is so stupid. I remember I went to fish a part of the snake river near marsh creek and I was threatened to leave by a middle aged couple that had just moved into the area near my aunt. Been fishing that spot for over 10 years and now I’m not able to fish there anymore
Public access can be tricky in Wyoming. You can’t fish on any water that is flowing through Private land.
In Idaho and Montana, you can fish water flowing through private land (staying below the high water mark) as long as you enter and exit the river on public land.
Public access in Wyoming sucks like everywhere else. You have people that love to try and trespass folks for "corner crossing" so you can get to public land. Can't fish on waters that flows through private land without owner permission and so on.
When was this? Because I live in BC Canada and we have no snow.
This was early March, if I recall correctly.
