Seriously.. the Scandinavian history is ridiculously full of wars and trade conflicts.. I will actually bet that it used to be the most contested territory in Europe, just by all the infighting
@Eddie Santos the cold is certainly a drawback for most people, and the long days of darkness can get to people who don't have that experience. Otherwise, we manage to have a quiet good time
But the long summer nights when the sun doesn't set completely, it's a magical place and you can understand why people were superstitious and believed in many things.
Shout out to Hamar in Norway and Lund in Sweden from Viborg in Denmark. These three cities are friendship cities, and enjoy the national guards of each city used to have military games every 2 years. But due to the current situation i guess it has been cancelled for the following few years.
Before Sweden was ruling them, Denmark did. So the Danish Prince who become a Norwegian King was Prince Carl of Denmark and Princess Maud of Wales. Their son was two years old in 1905, when his father was elected King of Norway and Prince Alexander was given the name Olav. In 1929 Crown Prince Olav married his cousin, Princess Märtha of Sweden. So we're entangled since 1000 of years, being Norse people. Finland belonged to Sweden for 800 years, until they were occupied by Russia...
Round year 1000, i the Viking time, the novigan hooligans vikings with king Harald Hårdråde , reguraly was plundering the towns along the costs of Jutland. My town Aarhus was burned down around 1050. But Harald Hårdråde lost his life i am atempt to conquer England at Stamford bridge in 1066.
