The music videos are a modern re-telling of the mythology of Eros(Cupid) and Psyche. Wherein Cupid falls in love with a mortal but is eventually reprimanded for it when Aphrodite punishes them by making Cupid invisible to Psyche, the mortal lover.
I think this continues the director's commentary on idol culture that was started in Ditto and OMG. Similar to Cupid, idols are supposed to represent and facilitate romantic ideals for the public but are never allowed to actually be in love themselves.

hoyeon is a cupid! she’s just like newjeans, but she wears black as representation of sadness and trying to run away from that life because she herself will never get to experience love because she is invisible, and that obviously saddens her.
Bookish explains this well, but to add what she has to say, I think the guy at the end represents Aphrodite, Cupid’s parent who punishes the couple when he finds out they are together.
I saw a theory on Twitter that Cool With You is the continuation of Ditto. I dont really agree to it but:(I don't remember all of it sorry 😔)
Ban Heesoo in ditto was the only one that saw New Jeans bc they were like angels or smth like that. New Jeans started to became jealous of the boy Heesoo falls in love with in ditto, and keep asking her "who's he?" (Omg lyrics), she never answers. She started to ignore the girls bc she was the only one that saw them and she didn't want the boy to think she's crazy. Bc of that New Jeans "curses" her transforming her in Cupid. The start of Cool with you is her doing her job as a cupid (by looking at someone and then to another person, that's why when she sees that boy she doesn't look at anyone else) and new jeans were checking on her. Then she falls in love with that boy and decides to try to stop being a cupid. The rain interferes with Heesoo power's, that's why I'm the end of ditto she runs away (without nwjns) in the rain. And that old man at the end is another angel/cupid that make the boy fall in love with the other girl. Then Heesoo goes to see nwjns and I don't remember why anymore sorryyyy
From what I've seen, these music videos are a depection of eros (cupid/hoyeon) and psyche (the guy)'s story, with aphrodite (the older man on the other side of the street) changing it so psyche loves another person.
Also love how you pointed out Hoyeon was blocked by another person in the opening shot, then at the end she’s got n the foreground in front of the person who replaces her.
its so weird, its like newjeans act like parts of the conscience in all their music videos its kinda cool, i do like to think they’re nymphs seeing as eros saw them when she was trying to make psyche notice her

I thought she was kind of like a goddess of love where she could make others fall in love but she wasnt allowed to have love herself, thats why when she finally started seing that guy, some kind of superior (the old guy) came, and she instantly knew that she couldnt have her love anymore and then she was invisible again

Who knows what NewJeans are in these music videos. Are they guardian angels, are they Muses, are they a Greek chorus narrating the stories they want to tell?
I thought they were like a Greek Chorus too or the Fates. They just watching the tragic story unfold
@@apizarro1 Yeah, I thought so too. Yes, the fates; I knew I forgot one.
I agree they watch it unfold, but in some music videos, they help too. They also get involved but usually, the fates stay out of things unless a mortal/human asks them for help.
@@AwakeningWings yeah I did think that at the end of the MV Hoyeon is looking for advice from NewJeans/the Fates and the song Get Up is their response…maybe? I could be completely off LOL

I thought the same thing, it looked like Hoyeon decided to do something but we don't really know what because the video ended with her smiling and walking away.
