Cool With You's story is a parallel to the lives that idols live.
The story is based off the myth of Eros/Cupid and Psyche. In the mythology Cupid falls in love with a human but is eventually punished by Aphrodite when they're made invisible to their lover, Psyche. So pretty much exactly like in the music video here.
Idols are just like Cupid in that they're meant to embody and facilitate romantic ideals for others but are never actually allowed to be in love themselves.
Such an amazing concept with so much artistry, I love it!

Ture
ETA Theory: the underlying theme throughout Newjeans MV’s is that they aren’t really there. They are an outside presence helping and supporting whoever the main character is. Notice during the first phone call you can hear Dani saying “we have to perform”. Indicating that they are an idol group not her real friends.
In ETA, (opening scene in the car) you can see the emerald (emerald represent life and renewal) next to the phone. Later on u see the same emerald bracelet on the cheating bf when he’s on the car hood with the other girl. This indicates everything in the MV already happened while Eva in the car is the present.
The scenes that follow:
Eva looking the the rear view mirror seeing her bf and other girl kissing
Eva in the car in the pool seeing her bf and other girl kissing
Newjeans in the gas station(with mics on)
Newjeans as cops
Newjeans in the car with her driving through the tunnel
Eva (kinda) running over bf(does that look like a couple who’s been run over?! Nope) They staring at her lol.
THIS is all a fantasy. Imagining Newjeans are her friends who are looking out for her and spilling the tea. Believing all the rumors of her bf cheating and then imagining when and how he cheated: pool party, swimming pool etc. Fantasizing about running him over. People who’ve been cheated on will sometimes fantasize about getting back at the cheater. Revenge fantasies it’s called. Though most don’t do anything of course.
The ending scene: The underlying theme of some of Newjeans MV’s, they are there to support and comfort. Ditto, Cool with You.
Eva, with the help of Newjeans (we see Hanni and Minji in the car mirrors) finally gets over the cheating bf. The shirt in the trunk and the running over is a metaphor for her finally getting over it and ridding herself of all the pain and angst from getting cheated on. So, no, Newjeans is not advocating violence when cheated on, lol.
Another brilliant project by the same director as Ditto and CWY, represent the parasocial relationship between idols and their fans. How music and their relationships with singers can help through the most difficult times in life.

2:47 This painting is actually one of François-Édouard Picot famous work entitled "Cupid and Psyche" which is exactly the plot of this MV is referencing. The Cupid in the painting in this scene pointing at Hoyeon to identified her true identity as Cupid/Eros(gender swapped version).
Side A: Hoyeon follow the lady at first and make her fall in love in the elevator is an elaboration of her routine work. Then she met this guy who suppose to be her subject yo make him fall in love woth other mortal women when he enter the elevator. But she is obsessed with him, so she neglect her task, instead she follow him whole day.
Meanwhile her guardian angels NewJeans are observing her and even persuade her to return to her cupid routine work. End of the day she can't stop her own from falling into him, but looking at the mirror and notice the absence of her reflection in mortal world. So she go under the rain and strip off her wings under the shade of her cloths, hoping she can regain her mortal flesh.
Side B: Filled with anxiety and uncertainty whether she successfully gain her human form, she knock on his door, he answer and finally at the very first time see her. She is filled with joy for being seen by her loved one for the very first time and start a relationship with him. However her parent Aprodite (gender swapped version too) cameo by Tony Leung found her and undone all romance with her Psyche by making him fall for another girl (Not sure is she the same girl from the elevator) as he always meant to be initially. She is left abandoned and unseen by her love one again.
Get Up: After recovering from her sorrow, she seek her guardian angels by following their music in order to reinstate her Cupid entity.

이는 ditto mv와 같은 맥락으로 어리고 순수한소녀들의 상상력으로 대중에게 신선함을 주겠다는 음악적지향표현(omg에서 이말년 웹툰작가가 현실세계와 카툰이 혼재된 창밖을 바라보는 장면...소름)
살인연출은 스마트폰(sns)이 사람을 죽일수있는 도구라는것을 경고하는것으로 이는 omg에서도 비슷하게 사용되고 있습니다
애플은 자신들의 아이폰이 살인도구로 쓰일수 있다고 연출하는걸 알고 스폰서한걸까요? 아이러니 ㅎㅎ
from what i've understand, Hoyeon's char is like a Cupid. Notice how she setup those two strangers in the beginning just by staring at them both. She ended up liking one of the dudes and kept her eyes on him so he doesn't fall for another.
At the end, the old man is prolly another Cupid. He made the dude that she like fall in love with the other girl.

actually, that's not far off. The guy at the end is aphrodities, he also has the power to make people fall inlove with each other. She was not supposed to fall inlove with a human because her purpose is make people fall inlove with each other. I think that's what is happening but you can double check it by looking up the story of cupid and psyche.
Tony Leung is Aphrodite/Venus, and Hoyeon Jeong is Cupid. If you search, you can find the whole story about what is taking place in this MV. The short version is Cupid is punished by Aphrodite for daring to have a relationship with humans.
What does ETA means?
