Merry Christmas/Happy Holidays everyone! I hope you enjoyed this vocal break down and the little -julia's cross over in the intro :) Stay safe and healthy!!!
Odin/Thor is the guest vocal Thomas Winkler, at the time still Angus McFife in Gloryhammer. As with most/all? Nanowar songs it's loaded with references (Guitar techs... Odin's role in Santa Claus myths and so on). My favorite is that "instruction manual" for building a Viking long-boat - in addition to the kit you just bought you need two screwdrivers (flat & cross), a pen, a shield, an axe and beer (so everything else is in the kit). I assume it has to be the same boat we also see in the water later. Also, the area of Sweden IKEA was founded in is known as the Swedish bible-belt because there's a lot of it is small Evangelical churchs which tends to be really into gospel singing. The Christmas dinner at the start is more Italian than Swedish though.
Yes, the Holy Book if IKEA is the instruction manual for assembling one of their products. The name of the product is in the upper corner in Futhark runes, and if translated is a variant spelling for the drakkar, the Viking dragon-headed longship, which is also what is pictured on the manual above the required tools. So, I would think that the boat we see is indeed the assembled version. And perhaps that's why he's so joyous on seeing it, given how he reacts to the still-boxed Kallax at the end - he knows he doesn't have to put it together.
Just a couple of things they replaced the hebrew " Shema Israel, Adonai eloheinu Adonai ehad" (more or less listen Israel , the Lord is our God , the Lord is one) to "Shema yggdrasil (the cosmic tree) Odinai eloheinu Odinai Echad (Odin is our God , Odin is One). and for non italian speaking the FALEGN-AMEN joke , falegname is the italian word for carpenter.
Wait, what? You've *never* listened to Gloryhammer?! In that case you have a treat in store! I heartily recommend "The Unicorn Invasion of Dundee" as it's a fine starter for them, lets you know exactly how seriously they take themselves :)
Seconding The Unicorn Invasion of Dundee. Not only a great place to start (it's the first song on their first album), but also a VERY good song and one of my personal favorites.
@@Thessik73 It certainly is a great and enjoyable song, it belongs to my most favourite along with Hootsforce, rise of chaos wizards and siege of Dunkeld
Welcome to NanowaR rabbit hole! They have also written a love song: *And Then I Noticed She was a Gargoyle* Very, very moving love song. Maybe for Valentine?
I'm Swedish and I can say that for most Swedes there is very little Christmas in our Yule celebration. Most of what people think are Christmas traditions are actually Yule. The tree, the food, giving presents etc
Best Christmas song ever, because it reveals the true origin of Santa Claus before it was hijacked by Coca-Cola (he wears red and white for a reason) - Odin. Only Odin's magical, eight-legged horse, Sleipnir, (eight legs, eight reindeer, coincidence? not buying it) could fly all over the world in one night to bring gifts to the good children from the white-bearded All-Father. Angus McFife (Thomas Winkler) played and sang Odin in this video in his traditional Gloryhammer outfit. NOS lead singers are Carlo Fiaschi (main character) and Rafaello Venditti (Odin's priest). NOS are an Italian parody metal band. They take the piss out of a lot of European metal bands, but they're mostly musically pretty good. The whole Gloryhammer Angus McFife saga(s) are magnificent.
Santa being red because of Coca-Cola is a half myth. They contributed in popularizing the red Santa iconography in pop culture, but they haven't invented it, it was there way before the commercials, is just that many cultures around the world dressed Santa however they wanted.
Fantastic reaction, Ru. Thanks to Julia for letting you do this. Nanowar of Steel are comedy, and they make fun of how seriously many metal bands take themselves. Musically and satirically they are among the best. For most of their 20 year existence, this was merely a very serious hobby, with the musicians having other jobs, like accounting and astrophysics. "Uranus" is delightfully juvenile, "Bestie Di Seitan" is vocally wonderful, and "La Polenta Taragnorack" was written during a livestream with input from their fans.
@@Wrathlon apparently the Bass player Nanowar of Steel has a Ph.D in Astrophysics so they were probably pretty likely to get some correct facts in the lyrics.
And Julia reveals her true persona as Ru, the spirit of Christmas for cool people. You and Elizabeth need to get together and cosplay the heck out of Gloryhammer. Merry Christmas And happy Samhain to all. See you at the Yule bonfire and don't forget the mead.
What a wonderful makeup! 😻💖 NANOWAR have many more such masterpieces very much worthy of making reactions to them: "Uranus", "Call of Cthulhu", "And then I noticed that she was a gargoyle", "Heavy metal kibbles" (Parody of Judas Priest's "Painkiller") and so on... 😺 ))
You can't really put a style on Nanowar; style parodies are their bread and butter, and they can pull off anything they set their minds to because they're just that good. They'll do anything from gospel to reggaeton to straight up pop music, with a whole lot of parodying of actual metal genres in between too. One of my absolute favourites is Disco Metal.
Ha Haaaaaaa! Julia! What a treasure you are. That was so fun I don't even have words for how fun it was, but I laughed, I think harder than I've laughed all year, and I think you're easily one of the most adorable reactors in all o' Utubelandia. Bless you and all your Julias (and all your furniture!), for ever and ever, Aaaaaaaaaaaay MENNN!
So i was curious and googled Systembolaget It is a swedish state owned chain of liquor stores that is used as an instrument to assert the swedish policy on alcohol. It has a monopol over the sale of all alcoholic beverages with an alcohol content of more than 3.5% vol (7% proof). So if you are far away from Systembolaget, you can't buy a drink.
I love how this song starts out with a Viking feast and slowly transforms into an epic Ikea commercial... so much fun, so much confusion for my family whenever I play it... especially since I am grinning like an idiot he entire time.
Ah, parody metal, the genre were nothing, including metal bands, are safe. Also one of my favorite bands in the "genre". And the references are constant, playing bands of clifsides and so on, nothing is by accident, even when they look like accidents.
there are actually a lot of rock and metal references in their lyrics and compositions with the occasional nod to current issues. practically all of their music is technically good and funny but also potentially much less family-friendly and their humour might not be for everyone, but at least check out "uranus" and "norwegian reggaeton", their more mainstream releases.
Finally listened to this enough times that I can stop giggling long enough to consume vocal analyses. I got distracted, though, when you said "flappy bits." All I could think was "Say it. You KNOW you want to. SAY it. Say 'Whacka-whacka-whacka!' I'm sure Elizabeth hasn't copyrighted it yet, so is not theft, just HOMAGE [a word that must be uttered in comically haughty tone, of course.]
Never knew how much I needed an adorable reindeer to teach me about tongues, belts and flappy bits... or how difficult it would be to phrase that in a way that doesn't put me on some kind of list
This was an amazing reaction! Thank you so much for blessing us with it. I hope you have the greatest Christmas ever! As others have said you will really love their song Norwegian Reggaeton.

If you're looking to dip your toes at more nanowar of steel, I would suggest "norwegian reggaeton"
